AWARDS & PRIZES

Most star-rated hotels have their own restaurants and these are inspected by the AA. As with independent restaurants, rosettes from one to five are awarded annually to hotel restaurants for the quality of their food. Not all restaurants receive an AA award, but will generally serve enjoyable food. We seek out the best establishments in every part of Ireland for inclusion in our guides and, because we work independently and without charging a fee, you know that we can be trusted to lead you to the best places over a wide range of categories.

We were staying in hotel and had dinner as part of our deal, when we arrived 10 minutes early we were seated immediately, restaurantwas very busy. Menu was explained as it was a set menu with our deal. There was breadsticks ,dips and jug of water brought to table. I had bbq wings, for starter, dover sole grilled banana ,chutney and chunky chips for main, and sticky pudding for dessert,my partner had soup, leek and potato. and steak and chips for main,he did not have dessert. There was a wait for food ,due to it been so busy, but we were told by waitress when she took order,so it was fine. My partner had to ask for a steak knife, and the one he was brought kept leaking water from the wood,he found it annoying. Food was all devoured and we enjoyed athmosphere in restaurant.

Have eaten here on more than a few occasions over recent years. Offers good quality, no frills grill style food. Has a nice warm feeling to the place and the service is good. Is a casual environment so suitable for may types of meals. Would recommend.

Beautiful restautant setting and great food to be enjoyed here. Especially appreciated the generous servings offered on the table d'hote menu with no hidden extras. Would have been better if the staff were given more direction as they seemed to be working outside their sections too often; this can be a little ackward for both the staff and patrons. Overall, a friendly, stylish and enjoyably filling evening.

Spend last weekend in Fitzpatricks hotel and enjoyed a lovely evening in the Dungeon Bar and Grill. We were on a set menu as part of the hotel package, there was some nice choices but our waitress didn't tell us what the soup/special was. Food was very nice and the ajoining bar was a great place to finish off the bottle of wine. Overall a nice experience.

Service here was fine but the food was only ok, for what we got though, it wasn't great value...in fact it was very expensive. Don't mind paying those prices for a really good meal but felt a bit ripped off after going here. There are plenty of great restaurants around the vicinity, so won't be going back here again.

Getting into the restaurant, you are surprised that it is quite modernly furnished and not like the name would let you suggest, a bit rustique. The staff is friendly and helpful. Tables are generally quite small, so you can already tell what counts here: squeeze as many people in as possible and you can't help the feeling you're in a canteen. The menue looks ok and there is enough choice, at least a little beyond the usual chowder, fish & chips etc. I ordered smoked salmon and a sirloin steak. The salmon was absolutely low quality and I can tell you that in Ireland there is good salmon! It was served with Cambridge brown bread and a few leaves of salad with a "ready-made" vinaigrette, the sort you would buy at Tesco. The starter was at the price of 9,- Euros which is unacceptable, comparing the very poor quality offered. Then came the sirloin (ordered medium-rare) but it was more or less well-done. As long as I am in Ireland, I always had fairly good to wonderful quality of beef. This one was stringy and had not much of a taste. Again, I would say probably the worst you can buy in Ireland. For the price of 24,- Euros this was an absolute rip-off! I would say that I got half the usual quality for twice the price. So, instead of paying 91,- quid for the meal 25,- would have been a more realistic price. Lesson learned: Avoid restaurants that are a bit off the road and serve mainly as a "cantine" for a large hotel mostly visited by bus tours... I would definitely recommend not wasting your money at the Dungeon - well chosen name regarding the food: "Flies all green 'n buzzin' in his dungeon of despair ..."

all staff were men, this gave me the wrong impression. The waiters constantly disturbed us, on average every three or four minutes. Our starters arrived before our drinks and my husband found SEVEN bones in his Halibut, i pressume these were not meant to be there. Even after all of this, the food was excellent, very tasty. Overall very disorganised and messy.

The Dungeon restaurant is fine if you have kids and you just want something simple, however don't go looking for anything imaginative as it is a little stuck in the 1970's. Service is also fine but nothing personal

I visited here last friday night with my other half, we were in the mood to unwind after a hard week in work and found this a perfect place. We both had tender steaks cooked to perfection served with tasty sides and a bottle of red wine. This place is a real neighbourhood gem and I would highly recommend it.

Four of us - all family - went for lunch on Sunday to the Dungeon Bar and Grill. It had been a couple of months since I was there last and I did notice an improvement in the quality of the service. The food was fine - on the recommendation of our waitress, we shared a starter of chicken wings and it was more than adequate for all of us. Main course was good - lamb cutlets for one and stuffed breast of chicken for the rest of us. Perhaps a little too much stuffing but that was ok! Small carafes of house wine are a nice touch. We will be back - it's very convenient and we like the ambience generally of the hotel.

Went to the Dungon with a group of 6 adults and 2 children recently. It was a Tuesday night and the place was packed. Service was slow. One member of the group enquired about the fish special. The waitress didnt know what type of fish it was and didnt know whether it was fresh or not!! Salmon is highly reccomended, but dont order the chicken – it resembled plastic. Overall it was extremely disappionting for the price.

Myself and my boyfriend visited the Dungeon Bar & Grill for the first time in December and loved it. The whole experience was fantastic-we arrived in the restaurant on a Friday evening in December with no reservation at about 8.30pm, and the staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. We were seated and eating within an hour, and while we waited we had a drink in the adjoining bar by a log fire with a superb pianist for entertainment-an unbeatable atmosphere on a cold Winter's evening. We both had the fillet steak, which was cooked to perfection - I opted for the side order of vegetables, and my boyfriend had the coleslaw. The portions were more than generous, the food was of very high quality, and the staff and atmosphere were fantastic. We'll definitely be coming back.

Had a very disappointing meal here just after Christmas. The food was absolutely woeful- especially the vegetarian pasta dish which consisted of soggy pasta drenched in olive oil and half cooked peppers. There were bottles of wine on the tables available for purchace- which I thought was pretty cheeky, I'm quite happy to choose from the list thanks! The staff forgot our dessert and were generally forgetful with sides, drinks etc. and we recieved no apologies from the manager. Won't be returning in a hurry!

I was here on Valentines Day so was expecting it to be crazy busy but even though there was a nice buzz about the place everything was in control and there was no rushing us and we weren't delayed. Our table had a great view out the windo over Dublin City which was magical. Scanning over the menu everything seem reasonablly priced. My boyfriend had Mussels which he loved and the portion was very generous, he said the sauce was a bit watery though. My starter was Deep Fried Brie which came with a tangy salsa, I personally prefer a sweeter sauce with Brie but it was very tasty and ion fact they have a cranberry sauce available which I'm sure I could have had if I'd know in time. We both had the Fillet Steak for Main Course, I wouldn't have minded an extra minute or two between courses but it was fine. The steak was juicy, tender and cooked to perfoection, we also got a gfenerous portion of chips and veg each. Peppersauce and Garlic Butter also both delicious, it is quite a hot peppersauce. Dessert is where I was let down, I was looking forward to a calorific Chocolate Cake but the desserts on offer were more fruity and light. The only chocolate thing was a chocolate chip cookie which although it said homemade could have been store bought, the ice cream was very good. For a change we didn't have the house wine, we had a Chillean Sauvingnon Blanc priced at €23 which was very nice. I would definitely go back, however when reserving a table specify one at the window to make sure you get the view.
