The food was lovely but the portion size of chips seems to have got a lot smaller since my last visit. I ordered chicken curry and chips which was lovely, but only got a few chips on side of plate.

Cyrstal Boat is a restaurant I will never return to. The waiter was the most rude man I have ever come across in my life. He was so bad everybody was laughing at him. The main course was fine but the chicken starter was tiny. My eighty year old mother ordered lemon cheesecake and myself and my son ordered banoffe pie. Two desserts arrived out and we asked what they were. We were told they were banoffe cheesecake. I asked where was mine and I was rudely told I didn't order on. Anyway I decided I'd have profiteer rolls, they arrived frozen. i called the water over ( three times ) and was abruptly told I would have to wait my turn. After about twenty minutes I brought the frozen profiteer rolls up to the counter and asked for my bill minus the cost of dessert. I put my card into credit card machine and was then told he was having a problem with signal, fair enough this can happen. A second time was tried and didn't work. I was then asked if I could pay in cash, I said I didn't have any cash on me.( this is the best bit) . The grumpy waiter said I will hold onto your credit card while you go to the hole in the wall, obviously I said no way. We left the restaurant. I had every intention of going back and paying the bill after going to see Mama Mia ( not that the restaurant deserved it ) but I didn't have to. The waiter came out after me saying I will try again. This time he had signal and my card worked. Everybody outside the restaurant was looking at me as if I had deliberately left without paying. He never once apologised. It was an experience not to be forgotten

I tried to order food from crystal boat today. After waiting an hour and a half for my order, I called them back and they insisted there was no order even though they were able to tell me my address from the number I called from having never ordered from there before. The person I spoke with was very rude and consistently cut me off. Eventually they found the order after 10 minutes of calling me a liar. They asked if I still wanted it after I said no they ended the call offering no apology. Awful service and I for one will not be ordering from there again. I probably couldn't even if I wanted to!

Went to The Crystal Boat today for one hour lunch at 12 o'clock, waiting up to 20 minutes for our order to be taken at which stage we requested that starter and main be brought out at the same time. This unfortunately did not happen, Our Starter came out and was very nice, a further twenty minutes after and two requests for our main and we still had not received our food. People that we're there after us were served their food after us. Two of our party of four got food at 12:47 and two had to go without food as the service was so slow. At no stage was there any explanation to why it took so long or any apology. This is not the first time we have gone there but it will be the last

I have been a good few times to this place and each time I have really enjoyed it. The atmosphere is relaxed, yes the service might be a little bit slow but when you are out for a meal and a catch up that doesn't matter. I had the crispy chicken for started. It is a generous size portion and really tasty. I normally have the duck for my main and this is always excellent have never had to fault it. There is never a rush to remove you from you table when you are finished and they have always been very accommodating to all our needs. Would certainly go back and recommend to all. Cheap and Cheerful.

Great value for money on the pre-theatre menu although the portions are a little small! I had the Smoked Chicken to start which was delicious and Prawn Satay for a main, could have done with some more rice! I asked the waitress for more Prawn Crackers when our starters arrived however they never materialised and neither did the 2nd drink I asked for although it did show on the bill but it was removed... Ideal for before a show in the Grand Canal Dock Theatre

I have been here twice now and what strikes me most is that it is a restaurant straight from Asia. Having spent almost two years in Malaysia, China and other parts of South East Asia, I've realised that the culture, including the dining culture, there is utterly different from what we expect as Europeans. Crystal Boat is an Asian restaurant, run by Asians in the heart of Europe and does not pretend to be anything else. It has no aspirations to be the next spot for Parisien, 'haute cuisine', Chinese. It is just Chinese, plain and simple. The waitresses are straight-forward and efficient. They leave you your personal space and give you what you ask for when you call to ask for it. Your food is delivered with no pomp or ceremony - a dish is made and a dish is placed on your table. If you go out of your way to smile at the staff, you are treated with the same smile of respect back. If not, you are treated with the same dismissal back. On both occasions I have been there I have asked for pork fried rice. This is not on the menu but they have made no comment on the change and simply provided it as if it were on the menu. The price is more than reasonable and one of the least expensive places I can think of in Dublin to have a decent meal. The food is unpretentious. It 'does what it says on the tin' in other words. Just as I have many times experienced in Asia. It is - and I repeat again - not 'haute cuisine' nor anything like it but it is a consistently tasty dish. Last visit I also had the vegetable spring rolls which were as expected - Chinese style. Chinese culture favours the family gathering, conversation, the sense of community. Food is simply a practical necessity around which family and culture gathers and this is what Crystal Boat caters for. Bring your wife/husband/partner, your ascendants and descendants, your friends and acquaintances. Talk, share, gossip, politicise, philosophise and use food as the excuse to do so.

I went here with my OH after purchasing a deal for 3 courses each for 29.99. They don't have a desert menu so the desert is tea or coffee. We had a hard time finding the place but called and the delivery driver directed us. We both had the chicken wings for starters which were really tasty. The main course my husband asked for seabass and was advised they only had cod so he got this in chef's special spicy sauce with rice. I got the special fried rice and it was very bland. My OH paid 3.95 seafood supplement and we also brought our own wine and paid 3 or 4 euro extra. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. The waitress was nice and friendly but she did take about 15 mins to come back with our wine bottle and glasses at the start of the meal and when she got back on of the glasses was dirty. We didn't have the 3rd course as we wanted to get out pretty quickly as the atmosphere wasn't great (we were the only people eating). It wasn't really great value as i'm sure without the voucher it would have cost around the same due to the supplements on top.
