Lovely restaurant/pub. Great steaks. Quite dear for pub food but it's not really pub food. Really is a quality restaurant with pub attached.

I had a family birthday meal there last Saturday based on my previous visit there which was fantastic.Unfortunately I was very disappointed as portions were very small with no sides included.Very expensive for what you got.

Dined there for lunch with a big crowd. Joined a long queue waiting for food. Still at the cold food section I was asked what I wanted. Told him I hadn't seen the hot food yet so he impatiently barked out what was on offer. Not happy I decided to go & see for myself & also decided to wait till I got to the hot food counter to order otherwise my food would have got cold waiting in line, it wasn't very hot anyway as it turned out not that they would have cared since I was just a number in a queue as far as they were concerned. The stuffed lamb steak I had was delicious however the 4 salads on offer were a lame selection to say the least. I requested raw onion which came with a blank refusal so I settled for a mixed salad so I could pick out the bits & pieces I liked & some coleslaw. Such were the unequal amounts hastily thrown on to the plate I sent him back to rectify the situation which he impatiently did. There was no mash potato, the roast potatoes didn't look very appetising, so I settled for boiled potatoes. Everyone around me at the table seem to enjoy their food. I longed for some white pepper but none of the overworked waitresses were to be seen. My plate was far too overladen for the size of my appetite so there was a lot of wastage of food which I don't like to do. Later in the afternoon one of the ladies at the table bought small tubs of peanuts which had a smoky flavour. I loved them because I love smoky food but it wasn't to everyone's taste. Don't expect to be waited hand on foot particularly during busy periods because its pretty much fend for yourself or make do with it.

We returned just recently to what was one of favourite Gastro Pubs but what a disappointment. Food prices were always high but now they've reduce the size of the portions which is a really bad way to make more money. The management should visit Arthur Maynes or The Bridge to see how things should be done or run the risk of going out of business.

Dined there with 2 other people for lunch. Arrived early at 12.30pm. If you weren't into having roasts or salads there wasn't much else to choose from the buffet menu except for salmon with capers, (I hate capers) so I chose chicken escalope with sauté potatoes, pesto, sundried tomatoes, green beans (which I exchanged for raw onion) and rocket from the kitchen menu . Mine was to be a 20 minute wait (due to one of my groups transport connection, we were pressed for time) while my companions dug into their roasts of pork and lamb with gusto & enjoyed their immensely including the gratin potatoes which they loved. I would have gone for turkey & ham but there was no extra stuffing so I refrained. Given the time of year the lovely as ever waitresses were a bit rushed & the requested mint sauce never arrived though I was provided with extra pesto & while pepper which was good. They were trying to please & help the customer as always. Eventually my dish arrived earlier than expected. It was tasty but average at best & expensive at €16 given I can often pick up a 2 course lunch for €10 elsewhere. When I asked what the desserts were I was told to go to display unit and figure out myself even though 1 wasn't entirely obvious, I wasn't happy. For desserts 1 choose a chocolate roulade which she wasn't mad about, another sticky toffee pudding which she liked & I tea and a small mince pie for €4 which was very good value though I requested it warmed & it came out cold so I had to send it back however it was nicely presented & enjoyable. Leaving I noticed a full tray of chicken stuffed with mushroom with I reckon a mushroom sauce. I was properly annoyed that this choice hadn't been there early. Room & surrounds were good & atmosphere nice.

I stop here sometimes for lunch on my way to work and i ve always been pleased with the food. they have 5 or 6 sandwiches to choose from that come with salad and fries and they are REALLY nice sandwiches considering they're around the 8 euro mark. the service is ok - i often see ppl sitting with empty plates for a good 20 mins before anyone notices (and the place is empty) but aside from that and the fact that seem to be over staffed (ie 4 waiters standing around chatting with 4 customers in the whole place at 3pm) it's better than lots of other places i ve been too

It was years since i was here and im glad to see that the menu has finally changed. I had heard it had been taken over and was exited to check it out. The place itself hasn't changed much but then again it always looked great. Bright and airy. It was the evening when myself and my wife went in for a look. We first sat up at the bar and my wife had a glass of wine while i tried a Guinness mid strength. While at the counter we noticed that other people where having steak on the Stone. We were sold straight away. What an experiance. The steak came out on a 440 degree stone and with all the trimmings. you then cut and cook it yourself at the table. The best steak ive ever had. Will defo be returning soon.
