Colin and Teresa Pielow were the chef proprietors of three successful restaurants, two in Ireland and one in South Africa all of which gained wide critical acclaim.

Their passion for food and wine brought them to South Africa, where they settled in the beautiful Tulbagh valley in the Cape Winelands.

The property where they established and planted their own vineyard has produced the award winning Pielow’s shiraz which is still in their ownership.

Having returned to Ireland their philosophy is to provide good food and wine in a convivial atmosphere...

I found the staff slightly cold! From the phone call to confirm appointment to the serving staff on the night, not much personality and quite short. Food was delicious & steak cooked to perfection.

We went for the first time on a persons recommendation. We could only get a table downstairs and as we hadn't been before I didn't know what that meant. We were in a tiny little room with three other tables which was fine but I was cold. the front door was open and I asked the foreign waitress could she close it and she wasn't that keen but to be fair the lovely waiter that served us could see I was cold and shut it completely but at that stage the cold had got into my bones. The starters were lovely I had asparagus and brie and my husband had lobster which was very nicely presented. They told us the specials but omitted to tell us the price. I ordered grouse for a change and it was too strong for me and the smell was very strong and my husband had pork belly which was nice. Nice desserts. When the bill came I nearly died of shock as the grouse was €32. If I had known it was that price I would have picked one of the other nice dishes that were on the menu. It definitely wasn't worth €32. This restaurant was nice but I don't think I'll be back.

Four of us had decided to try this restaurant for the first time based on other peoples recommendations. I have to say we all thought the food was excellent and represented great value for money. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The only negative in the evening was that it was ferociously warm and there is no air conditioning in the building

We went for our first meal in Peilows last Saturday on a friend's recommendation. We were not disappointed. Service and food were excellent . My wife had the Lamb and raved about it. My daughter-in-law had the Guinea Fowl and loved it. Wine list was rerasonable. We are going back in 2 weeks with the rest of the family. Recommended

Very enjoyable experience, my husband had the Black Sole, absolutely fabulous, really fresh and vey meaty. I had the Duck which was cooked to perfection. The accompanying vegetables were excellent too.

We decided to visit Pielows, based on the favourable reviews posted her eon Menupages. Maybe because it was early January and staff are tired after the Christmas rush, but this is the most disappointing meal and night our I have had in a long time. The spring roll starters were ordered by 6 out of our group of 9 , and they were ALL overcooked. Ok, we can live with that and let's see what the Mains are like. The Mains were mediocre with two of us ordering steak..Mine was overdone and my colleague sent his back because it was raw.....instead of giving a new srteak, it was run under the tap thrown back in the pan, and then OVERCOOKED. This is not an expensive restaurant, but stay away, there are too many nicer alternatives, especially in Cabinteely.

Was here with some work colleagues for a Christmas night out. Everyone thought it was excellent. I had the Sautéed Tiger Prawns Thai style to start and the char-grilled fillet steak to follow. Both were superb and reasonably priced. We had a French Pouilly Fumé and the Marques de Caceres Reserva (both around the €30 mark). Service and food quality were top class. Everyone vowed to return. I certainly will.

Some of the best meals I've ever had was in Pielow's restaurant. Can't get enough of it. I have eaten there about six times since they opened and am yet to have a bad experience. The staff are so welcoming and entertaining, I would almost go there just for the company. I recommend everyone at least try this restaurant...you will get hooked!

Our local taxi driver told us about this place a few weeks ago and we finally got around to trying it last night. We were unable to get a table after 7pm but was not a problem as we were both up early the following day. Our table was near the window but there was a terrible draft coming from somewhere we could not identify. The extremely helpful and friendly waiter brought us a small fan heater wheich alleviated the problem. I was both surprised and very happy with our dining experience. The food was suberb and as good a meal as I have had anywhere this year. We both had the saute prawns for starter and they were excellent if a little bland. They were perfectly cooked but could have been served with a better leaf garnish. My wife had the Scallops for her main and I had the ostrich fillet. Both were fantastic. The scallops, just like the prawns were cooked perfectly, not an easy thing to do with large Scallops. I also like that they include the roe which so many restaurants remove. My Ostrich fillet came with a poached pear and a red wine jus. The fillet was pink and perfectly cooked again with superb flavors and well complimented by the pear and jus. The accompanying vegatables were fine but the garlic and cream potatoes were overcooked and a little mushy. They did however taste great. We ahd a bottle of "The Cover Drive" Australian cabernet Sauvignon with out meal and it too was excellent. We shared a cheese plate and I had a glass of sauterne and my wife a glass of port to finish. Both were excellent but the cheese plate was quite small and a little pricey at 9 euros. Our bill came to 102 euros and we were very happy to leave a 10% tip. Will definitely be back but not as regularily as we would like unless their early bird extends to other nights and the heating is sorted out!! I would also have to say that the serving staff who attended our table were VERY, VERY good and contributed in no small part to a great evening. Well done Pielows!!

very nice small, dainty restaurant. nice location. some staff possibly need to rethink social etiquette and professionalism. One staff member was unfriendly, rude and impatient - something which would deter me from coming back and recommending it to a friend. i ordered the ostrich, which was lovely but pork was average and could have been done better at home. the prawns were gorgeous but overall i would not come back here.

We heard mixed reviews about this relative newcomer to Cabinteely but insisted on trying it as it is almost on our doorstep. Unfortunately, our experience was just that - mixed. My starter was great, I went with an avocado salad and the flavours/textures were great. My mains, was fine. We were a table of 4 and the sides of veg were quite small, adequate for women but not for our partners. Dessert was nice but not memorable. Now the service.... the staff were lovely, really friendly but the actual service was quite poor. We chose a particular bottle of wine and after finishing that ordered a second, only to be told they'd none left - wouldn't you at least let somone know it's the last one? When we chose an alternative wine, we had to ask for fresh glasses; the waiter was about to poor the fresh wine into our old wine glasses. It wasn't a hugely disappointing experience but we will not be returning in a hurry.
