I went to the Herbert Park Hotel to dine with friends. It was not my choice of venue and my expections were low. There was not a lot of people there so the athmosphere was not on fire. But the food and service were of a very high standard. Pate started was 8 out of 10. My main course scored a very deserved 10 out of 10 - first class roast Goose. I had a cheeseboard to finish and my only complaint is that it was too generous.

The food here is really different and absolutely delicious. I went here on Thursday night with a large group, and everyone really enjoyed themselves. Service was very attentive and friendly. The menu is extensive and a little bit different. After a freebie appetiser, my starter was mozzarella wrapped in parma ham. It was served with a mango purée and slice of watermelon, which made for a lovely mix of tastes and colours and textures. The black sole served with beetroot was divine. The tuna also looked yummy, and it was all very nicely presented. Unfortunately, 2 out of the 6 available desserts were off that night. The decor is also very pretty; with the wicker chairs adding a nice touch of informality.

This is a lovely hotel. Very classy without the crassness of other five star hotels. I took my husband here for his 40th as a surprise. We had a lovely early bird, which was great value. Last time I checked they no longer were doing the early bird, which I think is a shame. It’s also very popular for Sunday lunch with its buffet.
