Have eaten here on many many occasions and the food is always excellent. The Chicken wings are the best in Dublin, go with the McGowans Sauce!!. Burgers are excellent, as is the Lasagne, Fish, Noodles and Carbonara. They're very accommodating when it comes to food for the kids. Great atmosphere for matches and they nearly always have special deals for both food and drink. Hard to find any faults.

I was surprised at how good the whole experience was in here as I was expecting a pub with half decent food. I had wings and a Mexican burger which were perfect. The fries are great, not dripping in grease and cooked perfectly. It is amazing how many places just cannot cook chips! My opposite had a fantastic goats cheese starter and all in all it was great meal for the price. Great value to be had and great place for a pint too. And if trouble breaks out - there are plenty of guards around!!! Well worth the visit.

Looking for a relaxed & low key dinner my wife & I opted for McGowans of Phibsboro. It was pretty quiet but there were a few small groups doted around the bar & dining area, plus it’s a large bar so we weren’t expecting it to be heaving on a Monday night. We opted for a table by the fire side & were promptly offered a drink by a friendly waitress. We perused the menu & decided on a starter & main course each. The menu was clear, easy to ready, with a wide variety of options. From bar bites to more substantial stews & steaks, everything is covered. To begin my wife enjoyed the deep fried brie with Ballymaloe relish. Two very hearty slices arrived. They had a lovely, creamy flavour & crisp exterior coating, served with a mixed leaf & onion side salad. I began with the famous chicken wings with McGowans own sauce. I opted for the regular portion as it was just a starter, yet what arrived was still a generous bowl full to the top with delicious, moist chicken wings & a small pot of blue cheese dipping sauce. Accompanying this was a finger bowl for washing hands & a good stack of napkins. The Beef & Guinness Pie was a large, hearty bowl of stew, with a hefty spoonful of mash in the centre topped with a small square of light crispy puff pastry. Not a classical presentation for a pie. It was heavy & thick yet full of chunky root veg & tender beef. Although there wasn't a hint of Guinness it was tasty enough. The Carbonara consisted of creamy tagliatelle with chunky bacon lardons, unfortunately the chicken pieces were huge & may be better cut into smaller pieces. These my partner left as they were quite dry & had an odd flavour. The starters (all €4.95), bar bites & side dishes stand out as offering great value for money yet maintain a high standard, especially for pub grub. The main courses are a bit heavier, both on the wallet & the stomach. Two courses with a drink for two people with a side dish of chips (excellent) came to €33.65 excluding service. We will return again!!!!

Great pub and restaurant. Amazingly large selection of items on the menu. Service and food are very good. The pub itself can be a bit dark and gloomy in the summer but it hits the spot in the winter.

Had a great paddys day meal, nicest wings i have ever tasted in my life. Normally I am quite strict with rating so highly but for what your getting the value is amazing. When the value matches the quality its a winner for me. Try the mexican burger. Fast friendly service. wings €4.95, steak was 14 quid. great for a few pints later also. will be back. I love wings, reminded me of a trip to the states.

As a regular visitor to the bar i decided to give the restaurant a go over the summer!!! The menu has great choice, lots to offer and prices have recently been reduced makin it great value too. The chicken wings and brie are all lovely starters and for mains I have tried the lasagne which is gorgeous, the tuna melt, which is very tasty and a very good portion and the chilli burger which is yum. I have always been too full for desert but there are lovely choices on the menu. The atmosphere in the place isnt the best while the food is on as it only really gets busy later on but its definately tasty.

Ate here with a group of friends on a Sunday. It was very quite, but the staff were very attentive. The food was nice, and portions were very good for the price. The choice on the menu was great - with 5 options for the chicken wings. It's an ok place if you're in the area

I had some lovely food here. The crispy prok was amazing. I'd the burger and chips to follow which was lovely. It's only a shame they don't make the chips/wedges like they did when they first done up the restaurant. They use to be pretty amazing. They must be too much hassle to make. Overall a very enjoyable experience. Great service, from lovely people. A little bit expensive tough, but what isn't these days?

Overpriced food, and a very boring menu. Steaks & Burgers Meatballs are great but €7.50 for 3, €7.50 for 2 small stuffed mushrooms, and a €13 lasagne with chips and a tiny portion of rocket.

I went there for lunch with my friends yesterday. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The food was really delicious and the portions certainly did not disappoint anyone! The menu is great for Sunday lunch, with big selection of burgers (but they also have steak, pasta and fish). Lovely desserts and good value altogether. We'll definitely be back!

Firstly McGowans have done a great job on changing the front bar into the eating area. The decor is really lovely. The menu is great; plenty of choice and the prices are great. 5 of us dined, Meatballs for starters where truly the best I have ever tasted. Stuffed mushroom where really good. Presentation of the food was lovely. All of our main courses where truly delicious. Can’t wait to go back.

I felt I had better update my review of McGowans. 10 months back I complained of restaurant prices, but eating in a pub. Well that has changed, they converted the front part to a lovely dining area. The food quality has also improved. And the staff are the best your likely to encounter, but they've always had helpful, friendly staff at Mc Gowans. For starters we had the crispy pork with apple sauce & the chicken wings. Absolutely amazing. I'd eat that pork until I exploded. The wings are as impressive as those famous ones in temple bar. I followed that with a fillet Mignon, pepper sauce with thick cut chips. The chips aren't as nice as they where when they first revamped the place, but are still quite nice. The steak quality was excellent and cooked medium as requested. There wasn't a hope of dessert as the portions in Mcgowan's are very generous. But if the desserts even half as nice as they used to be; you can be sure they're lovely!
