Dreadful...we should have known not to go into this place when the place was empty on a Thursday evening....the food was like rubber and cold....there were a few old lads sipping pints at the bar....this place could be a little gold mine if they cleaned it

Arrived at The Waterside on Saturday afternoon after a Dublin Bay Cruise, there wasnt too many customers however those sitting around us were complaining about the time it was taking to order and to receive food, the couple beside us had drinks but nobody had come back to take their orders, after waiting a few minutes a waiter walked by and I asked could we order, when he returned I had to ask him to take the other tables order first as they had been waiting longer, once we ordered things seemed to get better, we asked for our teas straight away as we were cold from the cruise which the waiter brought, at this point the bar filled up with customers. We waited approx 15 mins before the food came which was fine. I ordered a chicken and mushroom pie and my friend ordered fish and chips. When the food arrived the fish and chips looked very nice, I assumed my pie would have a pastry top however it looked like a shepards pie with potato on top and there was a big lump of mash also on the side with vegetables, I thought it was way too much mash for one dish and only ate the potato that was on the pie, a waitress came to take orders from other tables around us and for customers that ordered the pie she gave an option of chips or mash which the waiter had not asked me. The pie was very tasty none the less and my friend had no complaints about the fish and chips. I would return if I was in Howth again however the staff could be more organised as I would imagine they know when the cruises are going to arrive and they should be ready for the burst of customers.

Dined here with family and there was something to suit everyone. There was still a lengthy wait for our order but no complaints once the food arrived. Typical pub grub at pub grub prices.

Myself and 2 young nieces had dinner here. I had the chili bowl with rice which came with sour cream, homemade salsa and salsa verde, jalapenoes and tortilla chips. Glad I came hungry and all for only €8.75. The girls had wings and chips with their sauces on the side. Very impressed and I'll be back very soon

stopped in for a quick snack on Saturday. I was surprise that they were doing two €10 deals - traditional fish & chips and steak & chips. We opted for something less filling but the general consesus of those eating around us was that the meal deal was delicious. The pub was packed with Saturday diners/drinkers so the atmosphere was great. My hubby had the calamari which was light and crispy - they know what they are doing! and I had the garlic prawns. the only downside was the garlic prawns are boiled then added to a garlic sauce/soup. It would have been alot nicer if they were pan fried in garlic to give it that extra kick. All in all its a great experience and the staff are lovely.

This is the first time I visited this pub. It was quite busy with plenty of tourists and a few locals holding up the bar. The service was a tad slow but very friendly and we had a good joke with the waiter that we would have to come back to try everything we asked for that they were out of!! Obviously need to keep a better inventory on there food! The food itself was tasty enough and what I would deem middle of the road pub grub! I would try it again if in the area.

First time to eat here and I really enjoyed it. Service was provided by an extremely pleasant guy.Any other staff I encountered were equally as pleasant. For starters I had soup my companion opting for chicken wings. For mains I chose scampi which was very nice my only gripe being that the portion was tiny. My mate had chicken curry. For desert I had a cheesecake whilst my mate had an apple crumble. The atmosphere was fine with a mix of tourists and locals. I would return here again based on todays visit.

We arrived on a busy Friday night in Howth without a reservation so ended up here for a pub meal. Looking at the menu we didn't have any high hopes but the fish was fresh and really well cooked served with a heap of french fries. Not bad for pub grub

Pop in here while on a trip to Howth recently. It was a Saturday afternoon and the place was really busy with the usual tourist folk. We were seated in the main bar / lounge area where the atmosphere was fine. Menus were shown and we ordered. I chose the fish of the day (place) mu partner had the chowder. The tow little people with us ( aged 8 & 6) ordered prawns and a burger. Service was not the fastest and there was a communication issue with the staff! We spoke English! Food arrived; the place was lovely as were the prawns (5 in a bowl). The Kids burger was enough for two adults in my opinion, we asked the water about this and they do not do a kids burger on the menu only nuggets we were told. The Chowder was fine too. We each had a soft drink with our meal. The total was €59.00! Food was ok but defo not worth that kind of money. To be honest I would not be rushing back based on the service and the price.

'We usually pop into the waterside on trips to Howth, its a great place to relax for a bit after doing abit of shopping on the market on a Sunday or a stroll down one of the piers but have also have eaten there on many of an occassion & always find the food/atmosphere nice & relaxing but still with abit of Irish pub atmosphere, something that has taken abit of a knocking in the past years, it was recently renovated & hats off to them for the way they did it, a real mixture of designs but in no way in your face & its really opened up the place, I'm delighted for them & us as it nearly feels like we're going somewhere new but without loosing the familiarity, no mean feat! plus alot more live music so they'll be stuck with us alot these days, happy 2011 to them all!

I visited this restaurant with my family recently, just before Christmas. It was noisy and there was a soccer match on TV. A lot of soccer supporters wearing jerseys were a bit intimidating and loud, and they seemed to have consumed quite a few drinks....This is more of a pub that serves food than a restaurant. We had to try to find our own seats...and no one brought down any menus and I had to clear the previous diners leftovers fom the table myself.. After 15 minutes I managed to get some menus....and a short time later a waitress took our order...the menu looked good..and seemed reasonable....so we ordered starters and main courses and drinks for the five of us.... An hour later we had finished our drinks and had still not received our starters...On enquireing from the waitress she said she would get our meals and after another 15 minutes she arrived down with the main course...What about the starters I asked....Oh I thought you already got them...Needless to say on that note we left and will not return....Its a pity because despite the soccer supporters there was quite a buzz about the place.....and during the hour while we were waiting there...we saw our waitress bringing big plates of food to others who had ordered after us...she kept smiling down at us...so we thought surely we must be next but alas no.....A great day ...ruined...

I was in the mood for some fish and chips last weekend and thought no better place to go to than Howth. Had a very windy walk along the pier to work up an appetite and then stopped back to Harbour Road for some dinner. The Waterside seemed lively outside and was very cosy inside. The atmosphere and the food were really excellent. I had soup of the day (€4) for starters, which came with fresh brown bread. Then had the daily special, fresh cod and chips (€11) for mains. The fish was perfectly light, fresh and tasty. I would definitely recommend this pub grub, it was exactly what I wanted and not too pricey. The bar staff were great but the floor staff really weren’t pulling their weight. I had to go to the bar to order drinks and then again to order food, and then again to ask for cutlery, even though there was 3 waiter / waitresses pottering around. I don’t mind ordering at the bar, but it noticeably annoyed the bar staff and slowed them down.

I revisited the Waterside for lunch last week with a friend, the place is transformed - nice decor, interesting marine pictures, brand new bar, better seating. We had the pork ribs which were delicious, served with choice of chips or mash and a nice fresh salad and the service was excellent. We washed it down with a bottle of my favourite Majors Hill Pinotage wine which was on offer at a bargain price. As we had some business to discuss and I was delighted to be able to use the free WiFi on my iPhone. We'll be back soon!
