Went here with friends on Saturday. While the venue is quirky and staff were friendly and helpful, the food was disappointing. Menu is very limited outside of pizza. I ordered Chicken Quesadillas which weren't served with any guac or salsa, not a real reflection of how should be served. It was good value given we brought our own wine. Wouldn't visit again, food wasn't up to standard and as per previous review, bathrooms were unfinished in appearance and ventilation.

I visited The Dog House Howth, yesterday with some walking buddies. We were a large group but the friendly staff were very attentive. This is a quirky venue with a lot going for it. However it was let down by two things, the food (or lack of it) and the dirty toilet. I had fish cakes and a pot of tea, but there was little sign of fish and a lot of potato, accompanied by a tiny salad. It cost over 14 euro's which was bad value for money. A couple of my fellow walkers had panini's which arrived burnt on the outside and looked like bread rolls, not pannini's. A friendly fair-haired waitress asked us how was the food and we had to be honest. I left hungry and disappointed. Nice venue, lovely staff but poor quality food.

Depending on the time you go and the food you order will depend on your overall experience. I have been three times. First time was at night and we ordered pizzas and wings, it was amaizng and delicious. Sencond time during the day, same food but noticed the place was very dirty. Third time during the day again, sat on the couch, I was absolutley disgusted by the dirt of the place, the couches were absolutley riddled with ash from cigarettes the night before. The table was manky and thhe pasta dish was literally a jar of uncle bens sweet and sour thrown over fine noodles. My chowder was so thick that it felt as though it was missing a crust as it should have been the filling of a seafood pie. I actually had to pour water into it to make it some what edible. Such a shame because the parts they have got right are brilliant, but their refinement and execution is letting them down. They should stick to pizza and wings and a few other things off the menu. And the 12.5% service charge should be put towards a hoover, It costs nothing to be clean, and it is quite a turn off as it make me wonder how filthy the kitchen must be if this is the standard set for their customers. I really hope they sort it out because it could be a real little gem if they did.

A friend of mine recommended going here here so I was looking forward to trying it out. I was so disappointed. I ordered a pint of water as I had just finished a long hike. I went to the bathroom and when I came back there was a pint glass and bottled water at my place. I thought it was fairly clear I wanted tap water, I had the seafood chowder and it came with 2 slices of semi stale mccambridge bread- I thought for the price (6.50 or 6.95) the bread would have been fresh and homemade. The soup itself was ok- nothing special. I also got goats cheese and caramelised onion on bread. It was smothered in carmelised onion and had only a small bit of goats cheese and a very small portion for the price. There was a tiny side salad and a blue foreign object sitting in the middle of it. It looked like blue tissue paper but I can't be sure. I informed the waitress and did not make a fuss. She apologised and returned the blue thing to the kitchen. My friend had the quesadilla and it was ok- nothing special at all. We were both v disappointed and more disappointed when we got the bill with no reduction for my foreign object but an addition In the form of a service charge. Bit much if you ask me. We both agreed we'd never return. Very bad value for poor food.

My daughter & pals were there last night...they had a great time & food was lovely until they paid the bill...they paid individually & were each charged 12% service charge...a lot when your 14 years old. Would encourage them to spend their money elsewhere!!

Paid another fantastic visit here yesterday- really think this place gets better each time we go! Always a lovely atmosphere created by the wonderful staff and fabulous decor. Also discovered yesterday that they also have the best chowder in Howth! Really cant recommend this place enough- the owners and staff are really doing everything they can to make this a unique and fun place to go.

Brilliant in all aspects. Charcuterie plate could be that bit more abundant, but otherwise, excellent.

Had a great night here on Friday night, the atmosphere is brilliant with a holiday feeling about the place, very pretty with lights decorating the outdoor area. Menu is limited but it doesnt matter as there is enough to choose from, we had pizza and pastas which were very tasty, BYOB is a great idea and the first time we did it so it made the bill very reasonable, the only downer is that the service is terrible, you wouldnt want to be in a hurry or hungry, we sat for 20 mins without even being handed a menu which we had to ask for and for someone to open our bottle of wine, we'll bring screw tops in future.
