Went to the courtyard cafe as the bigger one was full. Every table was filthy. Most of the staff were sitting at a table staring into their phones with only one person serving. Empty water jugs. Empty milk jugs and no plates for scones. And to top it off a pigeon eating crap from the floor indoors. Such a shame as the gardens are magnificent. A dump with staff who don't give a sh*t.

The larger tea room was full so we went to the smaller one.Every table was full of left over food ,cups, plates .It looked like nobody had cleaned off the tables in days. The floor was also strewn with debris that had fallen from the tables. We brought out food outside and where tables were also poled high with left overs. We cleared a chipped and badly stained table to get space for out food. The whole place was filthy. Very disappointing as the gardens are lovely.

We have have been going to visit Botanic Gardens with my 3 young children frequently and ate in the Tearooms several times. The food is quite decent, overpriced but it is a nice treat after a Sunday walk. This Easter Monday, however, we had a horrible experience there. My youngest child is 2 and still uses a buggy. We put the buggy at the wall since the tables in the cafe are so close together that it is very difficult to manouver and find a space for a buggy without inconveniencing other patrons. Also, some of the guests are often using mobility assistance - walkers, wheelchairs and that Monday was not an exception, so a buggy obstructs their ability to move inside. We did notice a "leave area free" sign next to the fire escape door and made sure the buggy was parked in a different area, away from fire escape route .It is a small umbrella stroller and I parked it next to the fridge where it snuggly fitted and it was neither obstructing the entrance nor the fire escape door. Then, when we were busy ordering and supervising our 3 young children, someone stole the buggy! I was very upset, run out, hoping I would be able to still see it and retrieve it from whoever took it. I found it dumped outside of the restaurant, brought it back, put it under the wall again. Within seconds an older man in glasses wearing a security uniform was admonishing me loudly in front of my kids and a crowd of strangers, in a raised voice ordering me to remove the buggy as it was a fire route obstacle. So this guy in a security uniform first stole our stroller, dumped it, and then gave out to me in raised voice in front of everyone in the restaurant for bringing it back! He had made no effort to actually calmly explain what the original where I could place it. Considering it is in Botanic Gardens visitor centre, it is ridiculously family hostile - avoid, the overpriced food isn't worth the hassle. Or your stuff getting chucked out!

Dropped in to the outside area of tea room for a coffee yesterday after a nice ramble around gardens. We got one Americano and a double espresso with one chocolate éclair. The cost for three items 11.95. Now no matter what way I try to calculate this this is definitely over charging. I tried to ask the young girl explain charge but her English was so poor I just left it. Apart from this the espresso tasted just like coffee but a smaller amount. I did see it being made so not sure why it tasted like this. Will not be returning and advise any one going to check what they are purchasing price in advance also no receipt given for me show see what I was charged for

A functional rather than cosy oval room at least it gives you a place to sit since the cold functionality of the lobby has ner a chair for a weary walker to rest their bones which is a huge oversight IMHO in a visitor/information centre. The restaurant is self service, near the entrance with a nice view of the huge conservatories. I started off with an open prawn sandwich with a salad garnish and went from being almost accidentally being overcharged from it to finding out that it and the other open sandwiches, tuna/salmon were on special offer. A nice surprise representing very good value for money but how are customers supposed to be inspired about it? The prawn sandwich was very good indeed topped with a plentiful mound of tiny prawns topped with a sauce that wasn't run of the mill and very pleasing to the palate. Although I asked could I have some onion in my salad garnish, which was just lettuce leaves, I wasn't given enough and I longed for some other flavours, colour and textures in the salad which was bland beyond belief. A few tomatoes, peppers, scallions etc would not have gone amiss & would have completed the dish nicely rather than the salad I got which was just cheaply thrown on the plate as a side thought rather than forming any meaningful element of the dish from which it detracted. For afters I indulged in one of the lovely cakes on display, a cream with real strawberries in it and jam sponge which was very nice indeed accompanied by a beautiful and pleasant hot chocolate. They seemed to have run out of some of their muffins quite early in the day which left some question marks in my mind regarding adequate supply. Not fine dining, I however enjoyed my lunch in a pleasant setting for a reasonable price.

Been here twice in the last week. Very nice both times. Lunch one day was delicious and very reasonable, a chicken wrap & bruchetta with coffees €15. Second time coffee and 2 scones and apple strudel & a mini breakfast for 4 people €21. Really nice and again reasonable. The salads look delicious and the main course dishes are very inviting. A good visit all around finished off with a walk around the beautiful gardens.

Lovely outdoor courtyard. Nice and quiet atmosphere outside in comparison to very busy indoor cafe. Staff were impatient and unfriendly however. Cakes were a bit pricey but were enjoyable. Nice pot of tea!!

Called in for a cake and a drink with an old flame. Service was fine nothing special. A woman asked at the counter if we wanted anything else and when we requested a hot drink she stated another person would get it. I cant see why she herself couldnt have got it. Full marks to the woman clearing the tables she did a great job. The cakes were both nice and decent in portion size. This eatery offers nice views of the gardens. I would like to return and have a hot lunch as the food served to other diners looked very good.

This is a lovely, bright and airy restaurant. We went in looking forward to coffee after a long walk in the Botanic Gardens. There was a queue so we waited until it had abated. We ordered and paid for a slice of pavlova, a coffee and a mineral. I asked the cashier to check the bill as I thought €9 to be a bit steep for what we got.She checked and assured me that it was indeed right - the pavlova cost €4.50. We sat down to enjoy this rather expensive treat. The coffee was very bitter and the pavlova, garnished with a single strawberry slice, at best, very average. I will not return.

went for lunch here with 2 friends. we found the menu a little hard to read (blackboard above food) . anyway i ordered a quiche and salad and the two others ordered wraps with salad. the portions we had were huge as we got a choice of 3 salads and i had to ask the girl behind counter to only give me a small amount as she was pilling on the food. the lady at the till was very chatty also and remarked that we wouldnt have room for dessert after ,she was right. im glad they have improved the food here as it used to be awful as i had eaten here a couple of years ago. it wasnt expensive either so deffo would go back next time we are in the gardens.
