The atmosphere at this St Stephen’s Green restaurant is one of easygoing conviviality sustained by Dubliners dropping in for a relaxed brunch or a dozen oysters and a glass of Champagne pre- or post-theatre. The city’s business community also like the privacy of the beautiful dining space, especially the intimate leather-clad booths.

Serving some of the most honest, well-cooked classics in Dublin, The Cliff Townhouse restaurant menus showcase an intelligent range of dishes to suit both a three-course feast or light bite in the middle of the day. Staples include generous salads, Eggs Benedict, Galway oysters, native lobster, dressed Yawl Bay crab, wild sea trout, posh fish and chips or a 10oz Hereford rib eye steak.

We had a pre-theatre meal and were extremely disppointed with the quality of the food. Two spiced beef starters were beyond salty; the fish mains were heavy and tasteless, Its a real pity, as the staff were charming, the decor attractive, abd the atmosphere relaxing.

Had a girly lunch here. Food and service was perfect. We both enjoyed goats cheese starter and then steaks. Gorgeous food and faultless service from a very charming French waiter. I would definitely recommend

We haven't been to the Cliff Townhouse for a while and were delighted that the interior hasn't changed. It is such a light room with comfortable chairs. Very attentive staff. Lovely bread to start with. We both had the smoked haddock starter, which was very nice. The hake & seabass were cooked to perfection and very tasty. Can't wait to return.

Had a lovely evening with my hubby and 2 friends who were staying in the hotel. The atmosphere was a little sedate for a Saturday evening. The food was perfect. Beautiful breads followed by my fish cooked to perfection. Tasted some of my hubby's steak which was perfect. I felt the waiter came to the table too often to top up our wine - each time adding no more than a dribble! I was the only one who ordered dessert - Sabayon. The waiter happily gave the others a spoon each to dip in. It was heavenly and I wouldn't have minded having it all to myself. At almost €50 for a bottle of wine I do feel that the wine is overpriced. The food was perfect in every way so I wouldn't have said it was overpriced.

we had lunch on a busy rugby Saturday weekend. The food is sensational, any fish dish will be cooked to perfection, the service is excellent, it is chic and informal, relaxed and yet you feel very much well looked after, the location is superb.

The chef here must be complimented. Luncheon in the Cliff Townhouse restaurant in Dublin started with the best crab bisque soup that I have ever tasted, and this was followed by a really excellent fish pie. The desserts looked good too, although I didn’t have one. So based on my experience, admittedly limited, the food here is second to none, can be highly recommended, and at 25 Euro for a two course lunch was very good value. Service was efficient and friendly. Unfortunately the wine menu was fiercely expensive so I didn’t sample it. The restaurant is situated on the first floor (i.e. at the level of the front door, which in a Dublin Georgian house is often at the top of a steep flight of steps) and takes in what would originally have been the drawing and dining rooms, as well as a further room extending towards the back. Although this is very much a matter of personal opinion, I don’t think the architect who converted this old house into a restaurant succeeded in preserving the ambience of the eighteenth century. There is a bank of soft seating all around the walls, which while comfortable, does not give any feeling of gracious living. That said, for anyone looking to extend his or her eating horizons, this restaurant is definitely worth exploring.

I have been really looking forward to trying this restaurant for a while but was a little disappointed with the whole atmosphere the lighting was to bright and the entrance to the hotel/restaurant was terrible. The food was just ok the starter was really good but my steak was just alright and the chips were very greasy and the salad was a few leaves with a dressing which was very heavy the the leaves. I am glad I tried it but will not be rushing back

Had the early bird which was very good value. Starters were a little unexciting (smoked haddock) but the home made breads were A1. Cod main course was extremely good- fresh fish cooked to perfection with a not too overpowering sauce/ starch/ accompaniment. Dessert- strawberries with lemon curd jelly was lovely too. All in all delicious

My husband and I dined in the Cliffhouse last Sunday to celebrate a belated birthday...A fab lunchtime menu and great value, and the manager showed us the bedrooms and the function rooms, which overlook St Stephens Green, as we have an event coming up in September... Everything was perfect including the weather..

Went on Sunday for Mother's Day with my Mum and sister. Everything was absolutely fantastic! The service, the surroundings and especially the food. It felt so luxurious but surprisingly wasn't that expensive, particularly for the experience you are getting it is well worth it and I think this will become a regular for birthdays and special occasions with my family. Not much more I can say just that everyone has to go here for amazing amazing food!!!

Pre-Theatre menu at Cliff House - Waiting staff were terrific and attentive, but food was served too fast - we had only just finished our (very substantial) starter when our main course arrived. As a result, we felt rushed, too full to enjoy our food and didn't really enjoy what could have been a lovely evening.
