The Dakota Bar opened in June 2000 on Dublin's South William Street. For decades, South William Street was the centre of the Rag Trade in Dublin - Dakota used to house the fabric warehouse for nearby Grafton Street's Switzer's Department Store. Switzers is now long gone and has been replaced by uber fancy department store, Brown Thomas.

Over the past decade South William Street has flourished as a destination with plenty of hip eateries and bars opening, along with some of the bigger Hair and Beauty Saloons in the city. It is from this local crowd that Dakota draws in the masses.

There are many facets to Dakota - during the day it serves fine freshly made food and offers an oasis of calm in the centre of the city. At night - it's a popular destination for drinks and rendevouses. And at the weekend it a great place to party 'til late with some damn fine music playing also.

The main principles behind Dakota are offering the public the best in quality food and drinks and service in a modern and chic interior.

We celebrate 10 years in 2010 and we'll be having lots of events to mark the occasion!

We look forward to welcoming you.

Good value for food and the wings are brilliant! The cocktails aren't cheap but they are delicious and well made! Been a few times and will definitely go again!

I recently Went to dakota for lunch with my friend. I Liked the design of the bar/restaurant. I am a Coeliac and the Menu did not inform me of any suitable choices. Alot of Restaurants in this area have extensive gf menus but dakota has not updated. I asked the waiter(who Was Also the manager) if they could cater for coeliacs. He Went to the kitchen and spoke with the Chef. He informed me that the special Was not gf as there Was cream in It(cream does not contain gluten) i feel as a Manager It is important to be aware of common food intolerances.i Opted for the burger with no bun and a side salad which consisted of just Rocket and red onion.it Was tasteless and i feel more effort could have been made. The Chips had flour in then Also so that couldnt be given. They attempted to charge full price until i questioned It. My friend ordered coke with her meal. She drank a small Bit but had to Send It Back because It Was totally flat. They Provided her with another coke then which Was Also flat. She drank most of It as her dinner Was getting cold. When the receipt came they Tried to charge for the second coke. The waitress said that the first Was a splash and Thats Why It Was flat and that the second Was from a bottle. Then when the manager came he contradicted her and said that both had come from the bottle. Both cokes were extremly flat but the manager insisted they were from bottles. After debate he then took the cokes off the bill. Overall the food was below average and i feel the menu needs to be modernised.

Dropped into Dakota for lunch one Saturday afternoon in town. The food was ok, nothing special but fine for a quick lunch. The service was friendly and it was not too expensive. What I was not impressed with, was the large hole in our the seat of our booth, covered up with cushions! If there is a crater in the seat then maybe a little warning to the people about to sit there would be good? Just a thought!

I've been here a few times with my girlfriend for a work lunch. On all previous occasions the food was tasty, but the portions were a little small and service was also a little slow. But in general we found it ok. As for our most recent visit, a complete disaster! It's a Monday at 1PM and you expect a lot of diners are people on work lunches at this time, as we were. Therefore it's reasonable to expect a relatively fast service? WRONG! We waiting patiently for 10 minutes to get someone’s attention to take our order. Finally, we made our order for a starter and main each at 9.99. Now we ordered soup and nachos for starters so you would expect them to arrive within 5 to 10 minutes? 15 minutes at a push? Try 25 minutes and still no starter! We walked out as we had to be back at our office. The place was not particularly busy. Maybe they are not interested in the work lunch market, but if they are then I doubt many people return. Unless of course their employer gives them a 2 hour lunch break. We will not be returning to this place again. We popped into a place up the road and were served good value food in 15 minutes, and we didn't leave feeling half full.

I dined here with friends after work on a friday, very busy although we had booked a table thankfully. Nice atmosphere, music not too loud so we could talk. Waitress was a bit pushy to take our order, we did not order straight away as we were waiting on someone. When food arrived it was very nice but the portions were a bit on the small side. Soup was lovely but so hot I really scalded my tongue, it was obviously sitting in a big pot for a long time. Nachos were also enjoyable. Very small portion of chips with the burger, about 10 although they were chunky. Waitress never came back to check if everything was o.k or to see if we wanted more drinks. I had to go to bar myself and was waiting about ten minutes before i was served as the barmen were too busy all making cocktails and having a laugh to notice people waiting. I don't think i would return as there is so many nice eateries to choose from in the city, although food is nice.

Had dinner here today with the my girlfriend. Food was very tasty but have to agree with the other comments - the servings were tiny. I'm not a huge eater & my girlfriend eats a lot less, but we both left (after 2 courses) hungry & felt like we'd just been robbed. The service was also very poor, nothing to do with the staff they were very friendly, but when you have someone asking you to settle the bill mid meal without even getting a chance to order dessert you feel really hard done by and very uncomfortable. We will not be eating here again because of these reasons, which is a shame because the food didnt taste half bad.

We met family for a casual bit of dinner and a couple of bottles of wine. The food was very tasty, but the portions were a bit small. The service could have been more attentive and we were very disappointed when we had to get up and ask for dessert menus, only to be told the kitchen was closed. Surely, as we were dining and had booked a table, we should have been told the kitchen was closing. Would still go back as it's a nice bar.

Lovely grub at a reasonable price but very poor service. On a quiet Tuesday evening we were left totally to our own devices - no welcome, no being brought to a table, minimal conversation and not once asked during the meal how things were and I sat for 20 minutes with an empty glass. I expect I will return but there is work to be done here

dined here on a menupages voucher. Lovely lively atmosphere, ideal place to watch the EUROs where were on that night. Service was exceptional given it was very busy, food was very tasty, and overall it was very good value (even if you were paying full price).

Had lunch here yesterday. I had the Chicken pate and Cajun Chicken wrap on the lunch menu deal for 9.95 including tea or coffee. Was great value for such big portions and really tasty. The toast with my pate was stone cold and I asked for no onions which I got, which was a bit disappointing but no big deal. Nice airy and bright bar with comfy seats.Really great for a casual lunch but not a quick bite as the staff are very laid back.

We brought the kids and their friends here for dinner, and it's a nice child-friendly place to get decent pub food. The childrens meals are good value, although I think they should also do a kids drink and dessert option, as €3 for a mineral and €5 for an ice-cream does bump up the price somewhat. I think we ALL went for the fish and chips, which was lovely, especially the chips which are good and chunky and come in cute metal buckets!
