Took some work colleagues here on Wednesday night. Everyone enjoyed the food, Hake with braised Fennel was really good. Only downside was the service - took nearly 30 minutes to take a drinks order, then a further 10 minutes to find a bottle of alcohol free beer. Not sure if we were unlucky with being seated during e.g. a shift change, apart from the delay in getting served The Sussex would have scored very highly.

We came here as a group for a birthday party and I would definitely recommend it. The atmosphere is great and it is very laid back and relaxed. I had the calamari to start and it is amazing. For a main I had the burger which was also very good. Although not cheap, it is a very enjoyable place to go for dinner and one which hasnt let me down so far!

Very tasty menu with a lot of choice on both the al la carte and early bird menus (the smokies are very good and should be tried if you've not had them here before. Beware though - if you go for this choice you are automatically transferred to the al la carte menu rather than charged a supplement!) . Went for an early meal so the place was still fairly quiet (which suited me!). I opted for a delicious ceasar salad starter followed by the shepherds pie.

I came here for lunch with a friend. A lot of people don't know about this place so it's a hidden gem. The food is lovely although some of the portions can be small. It is lovely for lunch. We ordered the cottage pie and chicken dish and they were both excellent. Very wholesome food.

I have eaten in the Sussex many times. We are always a group of 8+ with a mix of male & female nurse, with demands for reservations to suit unsociable working hours. Firstly I would like to say that Chef David really looked after us each visit. The food has always been really good. The steak and fish have always gone down really well with our group. The lemon posset is amazing, to the point we hold back on the other courses to make sure there is room for the posset. The staff have always been very kind, courteous and super efficient. Nothing was ever a hassle to the staff. The food is good value for money - the portions are large and the quality of the food is excellent. Presentation of food is lovely. We have sat in different areas each time; the atmosphere is enjoyable no matter what area you are sitting in. The decor is impressive and was a talking point on our first visit. Over all this is a great place and I would highly recommend it to both young and old!

My partner and I ate here in December. When we initially arrived they didn't have a table available for us but they were able to seat us later in the night so we returned to find a wam welcome to an extremely busy restaurant. Neither of us ordered starters and both had the fillet steak for mains. I can honestly say it was accompanied by one of the best pepper sauces I have ever tasted. My partner didn't have desert but he was sorry once he'd tasted my Lemon Posset. Overall it was a lovely dining experience. Our waitress was very attentive and it was great to be able to watch the chefs at work. Would recommend.

4 of us visited here last Saturday night. While we regularly visit O'Brien's pub downstairs, 2 of us had never eaten here before. The ambience / decor and welcome from the staff are all excellent. The menu is very much concentrated on Irish produced cooked in a bistro style (as opposed to overly 'fine dining' type presentation). All of us chose the Dublin Bay prawns cooked in garlic butter - very good simple dish , beautifully cooked and presented. 11 Euro for a starter portion of local prawns is more of an indictment of the local market than of the restaurant. We had steak (rib eye w bearnaise ) - excellent , Pork Belly - equally good and pan fried duck breast - again beautuifully cooked and presented. The wine list offered good choice at the lower (20 - 25 Euro) end. All in all a beautiful meal in nice surroundings with good service. My only gripe is that in today's Ireland one has to pay approx 60 Euro a head for a 2 course meal with 1/2 bottle of (relatively ordinary) wine p.person. I have had very similar food in London gastropub style establishments for around 1/2 of this cost in the recent past.

Had a delicious meal here on Saturday with my Husband. Great example of 'new Irish' cuisine. I had the Dublin Bay Prawn starter and it was amazing, my husband had the crab to start which was nice but mine definitely won! Fish pie for dinner - again delicious. I would definitely recomment this place. Loved everything about it.
