The Market Bar is centrally located on Fade Street, in the centre of the trendy Dublin 2 area. Over the years it has become an incredibly popular spot, right in the centre of Dublin city, close to Grafton Street and one of the main shopping districts in the city. There is an open-air, heated area for customers in front of the Market Bar, and the building itself has been converted from an original Dublin warehouse into a funky bar and restaurant. Although this space is vast it is full of character, and the modern interior design and the warm red brick walls create an old world and artistic feel. The Market Bar is Dublin's original gastro bar, and the delicious Spanish and Mediterranean tapas menu and extensive wine selection is well known in the city. The Market Bar is a great place to catch up with colleagues, friends and family for any occasion. Why not try a selection of tasty gourmet delights that will sate your appetite? The friendly staff are happy to advise on some wine and menu choices. There is also a cool bar upstairs serving the best cocktails in the city; the ideal place for a pre-dinner or post-dinner drink.

Really like this place & they have a great selection to choose from on their menu and food is fab. Good value for money, especially with the early bird & food portions are quite big.

Ate there last night with a friend. Food was quite expensive for small portions and the calamari was very greasy, otherwise quite good.

I eat here every couple of months with friends and would certainly recommend it for a casual after work bite to eat. They do a good offer of two tapas and glass of wine for €15 (I think up to 7pm on weekdays) though the options available on the offer have been cut back a bit. The food is always very tasty and portion sizes are quite big. Service can be a little mixed, occasionally servers have seemed a little abrupt but to be fair they are often pretty slammed. My only complaint would be you can't book unless it's for a large group yet because you haven't booked you will be told the table is only available for 1.5 hours. They do come and (politely) move you along when your time is up! Good value though and generally there is nice buzz about the place.

My two friends and I went to this place for some drinks Sunday evening off a recommendation from a friend. We were looking for a wine bar, so I looked up the menu online and saw that their house red was 13 euros for the bottle. When we got to the restaurant, we sat down, ordered a bottle of the house red, and some tapas. The waiter took our order and left, and we highly enjoyed the wine and food and environment. The problem came when we were given our check. The bill said our wine was 26 euros. When I complained about the wrong price, the waiter told me that there is no bottle offered for the house red, only a 500mL carafe, and that technically all the reds in the menu were "house" wines, so he just brought out the second wine on the list. I immediately asked to see the supervisor, and he came over to us. I showed him the online menu, telling him how we had not even looked at the paper menu when we got here to see that it was different. He fully admitted to his mistake, but told me that the waiter still brought us a house red. I told him that there is only one "house" labeled on either menu, and even if we knew that, the waiter didn't ask which type of wine we wanted. It was cheating and swindling and false advertising, and despite the fact that he admitted that the website was their mistake, he refused to give us our money back. They were incredibly rude and unprofessional--it was 13 euros, for pete's sake! Instead of leaving pleased and wanting to come back again, we left angry and bitter, watching the manager recount the story to the other waiters as they looked over at us and laughed. DO NOT GO HERE. Terrible management.

Very poor value. Bread and dips consisted of ordinary white bread served cold with 3 dips slopped in a bowl for 6.50. Nachos equally disappointing- had better salsa from a jar in lidl. This place used to be good - wish I had went for a sandwich somewhere else.

I went here for dinner recently and I was surprised at how great the food was. A gang of us shared a selection of the tapas- the fish skewers were especially delicious. Friendly staff too! Will definitely be back soon.

As a group of 20, we pre-booked a table a few weeks in advance & were assured we could be catered for as a group ordering Sunday brunch. We arrived. The table was great as we were all sitting together at a long table. Water was promptly dropped at the table. 3 people were vegetarians but there was no veggie options on the menu. On the specials board there was a veggie option of an omelette but nobody wanted this for brunch. The waiter was asked to see what the chef could offer as an alternative for vegetarians. The waiter returned to our table & we were abruptly told that all the brunch menu was pre-made & no alternative could be offered. That was the first issue. The vegetarians ordered Eggs Benedict without the meat. My eggs were overcooked & my food was cold. Given the waiters attitude I knew there was no point in complaining. Another 2 orders were forgotten about & despite asking 4 times - arrived 25 minutes after everyone else's food arrived at the table. 2 other dishes had to be sent back. Out of 20 - 12 enjoyed their food and were happy with it. We spoke to the manager at the end to relay the issues and explain why we were so dissatisfied with the service and the food. The manager was as bad as the waiter & was only short of telling us we were making it all up! The manager insisted that 70% of the menu can be adapted for vegetarians. He tried telling us the food is not pre-made. When asked who was lying to us about that - him, the waiter or the chef? He ignored the question . . . .I do think the food is pre-made the day before otherwise the chef could have done something for vegetarians. The service was shockingly bad. The managers attitude and customer service was worse. The food was abysmal, To be fair, I have heard the food in the evening is nice. It's just the venue cannot make a decent brunch & therefore should stop serving it. I'm sad to say - neither me nor my friends will returning there ever again to eat or drink after this experience.

I am writing to complain about the unacceptable treatment that we received in your restaurant last Friday 20th March. We were a party of 3 people (2 of us seated first at approx. 5.45pm as we had another guest joining us later but we were going to order our own food). Before were seated we were told we only had the table for an hour and a half which was acceptable as we had an event to go to at 7.15pm so weren’t going to be staying the night. The waiter took our drinks order and it was about 20 or so mins before anyone came back to take our food order. When the waiter came to us he told us we have used up over a half hour of our table time limit and then went on to lecture us both in quite an aggressive manner (we tried numerous times to say we are ready to order but he wasn’t listening to us as he was more interested in finishing his ‘speech’ that was quite unnecessary as we did not need the reminder of the ‘limited table time’) for taking up a table and that we should have waited for our friend at the bar until we were all ready to eat. We didn’t realise we were on “a stopwatch” and when our food arrived we felt extremely pressured to eat quickly and get out. This resulting in all of us feeling very ill after eating so quickly after being told twice about our time limit at the table. We made a complaint to the waiter before we left and he told us this was management’s policy for the last 10 years that you had the table for an hour and a half. The waiter was extremely rude in his response and practically threw our change back to us after we had paid. It’s unfortunate as I really like The Market Bar for food and I’ve been there numerous times before on many occasions with big groups and have never once been told we had a time limit on the table. Unfortunately I won’t be going back to The Market Bar after the treatment of us last Friday night. It’s a shame as I love the food there and never had any complaints before until now. Put me right of this place!!!!

Gave the Market Bar another chance after my last less than memorable experience. Fortunately we had our usual waiter Sakhi and everything was just perfect. The food was amazing. The wine was nicely chilled. I'm back to being a loyal patron.

Had another fantastic meal here couple of Saturdays ago.We dined early about 4.00 as we were heading to the NCH for a show. As always the place was busy with Saturday shoppers old and young and families with young children as it was early. They have a table set up with toys and games to entertain the kiddies.(they clear the table away at a certain time not sure what time though)There's always a hustle and bustle about the place which we love.We ordered 3 small dishes (small 8 euro large 12 euro)between us which is always more than enough. We had the fete salad, meatballs which come wih some patatas bravas, the fish stew and a carafe of wine each which is great value at 11 euro each.We are never disappointed with the food ,service or value for money. Our favourite place to eat when we're in the city centre.

This is a disappointing review to write. Normally I'm just delighted with every aspect of my visits to the Market Bar. Unfortunately this visit gets a thumbs down. Beginning with seating. I arrived early at 5:45 in advance of my two friends. I've been there before. I know that there can be a wait and we have learned to send an advance party just to be safe in case there is a line. This time there was no line and there was plenty of open seating. The waiter who sat me gave me what can only be described as the stink eye when I told him my two friends would be joining me momentarily (they arrived seven and ten minutes later). He told me I would have to wait for them to arrive. My response was that was unacceptable as there was plenty of open space and I would not be taking up a needed table. He finally sat me after making me promise I would vacate the table by 6:45 at the very latest. I agreed to this (again - not an issue especially when I know it will probably be busy), but I found his attitude in a word sucked. Ask me politely to do anything and I very well might do it as long as it's reasonable. Instead of being treated like a valuable customer, I was being treated like a nuisance that was going to take up his precious table. We ordered quite a few dishes. One arrived cold. I sent it back expecting a fresh plate of food. Instead we received the same plate freshly microwaved, cold on the inside and piping hot on the outside. Disgusting. As for my ratings: Atmosphere gets one simply because I consider being made to feel like I'm unwelcome even when I'm happy to part with my money the sort of thing that creates a poor environment. Food that arrives cold and needs to be sent back then returns microwaved gets one star. When food is sent back the same food should never be placed on the table again. The kitchens screw up isn't my problem. Service is one star for all the reasons above. Value got knocked down because I had to pay for microwaved food.
