I visited here with some friends on New Years Day. The pub was quiet and we were sitting chatting. 5 out of 8 of us had drinks in front of us but 3 of us didn't. One of the barstaff told my friends that they either had to buy something or get out. We were only in the door 5 minutes at this stage. I spoke to a manager who was not very helpful. It seems they have a policy of kicking people out when they are not paying customers. This was not explained to us by the barstaff who was very very rude in the way he spoke to us. Even after I complained to the manager, nobody apologised to my friends. Very poor customer service. I will not be going back to this pub.

Went for lunch here... ordered soup and sandwich... soup was lovely an very tasty... i had a sandwich with roast beef an salad, the bread and filling were so cold i thought it had been stored in a freezer, strange i know. Apart from that it was enjoyable and the place has plenty of seating available upstairs which i wasn't aware of so if you do go remember that or you could be left standing with your tray in hand!!! The reason i have marked the service so low is cause its basically self service apart from getting the sandwich made an i felt a little rushed.

A grand little spot! Service was really good, we had a really attentive guy look after us for the night. Typical pub atmosphere. Standard pub food.

Had lunch here yesterday - don't really like carverys and this didnt change my mind, the pub itself is fine the food was a little bland, overcooked and stale. Don't think i'd go back

The Duke does well for what it is. Above average pub grub. Enjoyable but not spectacular

Recently popped into The Duke on a rainy day as I really like the Guinness there, always has a nice cosy atmosphere and a quiet corner to read the paper in. As the rain didn't look like it was going anywhere I decided I might as well feed myself too. Wasn't expecting much other than standard pub fare but was pleasantly surprised. Its a carvery and I had the roast of the day, which was beef. The meat was cooked to perfection and had a lovely flavour. The veggies were also cooked just the way I like them, with a little bite, which you often don't find on a carvery. The staff are very friendly to boot!
