Finially got to experience the famed Shanahan's last night and it lived up to it's expectation! The early bird menu is great value for what you receive, I opted for the salmon pancake starter, the mini filet main and the cheesecake starter. The sides of spinach, creamy mash and especially the onion string are to die for! Couple of nice bottles of vino add to the ambience and the service staff were amazing. The only minor grip was that the cheesecake dessert was a little on the dry side for my liking, but I was nicely stuffed by that stage so it's not something I can get too hung up on! All-in-all, a great experience, highly recommended, will be back for sure!

My family went here for a celebratory meal at the weekend and jesus was it good! I had the nicest steak I have ever eaten with the biggest onion rings too! Unlike other fancy restaurants you get really big portions and even though I'm a big eater I left absolutely stuffed. The selection of bread you get at the start is better than the meal itself in most restaurants!

We were greeted by a lovely lady at the door, our coats were taken and we were shown to our table in the upstairs section by the window looking out towards Stephen’s Green. Our waiter was great all the way through the evening, super friendly. First up he came over with a board and a loaf of bread and muffin. The bread was onion, rosemary and cheddar cheese, with the cheese still melting - devine! Choice on the Early Bird isn’t massive but definitely suited us – we were never going to get anything other than steak anyway! To start I got the Trio of Irish Salmon: Oak Smoked, House Cured and Pastrami which came with Blini (pretty much a pancake), Créme Fraíche and Caviar. It. Was. Gorgeous! My partner went for the Roasted Red Pepper soup. I very, very rarely get soup as a starter as I just think it can be pretty bland but this was tasty and well presented. I may have done some bread dipping! Choices for mains were the Petit Filet (6oz), the New York Strip Sirloin (8oz) and a fish option. STEAK STEAK STEAK!! I was DYING for my steak. I know that people often say there’s more flavour in the other cuts but I tend to go for the fillet almost every time. I just like a nice thick steak with no fat to be chopping around. We both went for the Petit Filet which came with a side of spinach, some mash and the biggest portion of onion rings I’d ever seen. There was just the perfect amount to eat and not be fit to burst after it. Both were cooked perfectly and were so tasty and juicy. I loved the presentation of the sides too. We handed back empty plates, bar some of the onions…. pigs! I loved Shanahans, didn't find it at all pretentious and will definitely be back!

Have eaten here before. Standard of the food is very high and always a memorable experience to dine here and relax. Unfortunately the service seemed to have dropped sine my last visit, with the basics done well - but no added attention to make you feel like it is any way special. Also we were tucked away in the back as far as possible form the windows - even thought there was plenty of space in the brighter areas. - Just needs to be more attentive to details.

Once a year I treat my fussy hunni to a slap up meal for his birthday and there is no better place to go for those carnivores out there who like a bit of luxury and of course the extra 5 star attention from well rehearsed staff and well informed bar attendants. From being seated in the Oval room to being received by the head waiters it's a fabulous dining experience, Yes the food is pricey however they DO not scrimp on portion sizes at all. You WILL leave there stuffed to the brim that it will make you sleepy in the cab on the way home. It's an absolute delight. My favourites in the onion bread...the vegetable soup...their freshly prepared salads and home made dressings that you can either order in advance or even on the night as us vegans love a bit of flavour... The sorbet as a dessert is to die for and definitely worth having... Enjoy people... YUM x

Went here on the early bird deal for our anniversary. Super attentive staff from the moment you walk in. We went for a pre dinner drink in the Oval bar, big group of America tourists in the bar! Food was amazing, we both had the seafood pancake, really well presented, again we both had steak as a main cooked to perfection, we had cheesecake for desert and it was actually the nicest cheesecake I ever had... the portion was HUGE! We were given a free glass of champers and petit fours at the end with ' Happy Anniversary' written in melted chocolate on the plate... nice tough! HINT - don't fill up on the awesome freshly cooked bread they give you in the beginning... don't ruin your appetite the main dishes are way too good!

I had never had the pleasure of eating in Shanahan's before it has been somewhere I had always wanted to go. I was out on a night with my boyfriend we had been at the comedy festival and where thinking about where to eat and he suggested Shanahan's he had eaten there plenty of times in the past and was excited to bring me. We went in without a booking and we ate in the Oval Office as its a lot more of casual dining experience with a relaxed atmosphere. We ordered a beautiful bottle of Pomeral and had the prawns for starter and main course was obviously the steak!. Everything about the experience was wonderful the staff were friendly and the food was just divine. I will definitely be going back again soon it was the best dining experience I have had in a long time. I can see now why people say its such a treat.

I went here with my wife for Valentines night and it certainly didn't disappoint. Service is first class from the moment you enter and the decor and music match the fine dining experience. We were firstly served freshly baked bread and muffins which you msut avoid the temptation to devour completely to savour themeal ahead. My wife ordered from the table d'hote menu which is tremendous value. She had a caesar saladand petit filet steak and both were excellent. The cookies and cream cheesecake also was superb. I went for the a la carte and had sauteed garlic shrimp to start which were juicy and delicious and also a petit filet which was cooked to perfection and full of flavour. We also ordered a "small" side of fries which was more than enough for 2 and had crispy onion strings also. Again all were perfectly cooked. I cannot recommend this place highly enough for any special occassion.

I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday meal and we chose the early bird - 3 courses plus petit fours, and tea/coffee for 45 each. It was absolutely gorgeous. One of the nicest meals, of not the nicest meal we both have ever eaten. The steak was cooked to perfection for both of us and the crispy onion strips which accompany the early bird are to die for. We were also treated to a glass of champagne to toast his birthday. The staff are amazing too. Already trying to figure out another special occasion to go back. Well worth it

Dined here, A La Carte for a family celebratory meal - it was amazing. The staff are professionals at their best - they are attentive, but not over bearing, or ostentatious... they are friendly, but not over the top, and they work hard. The meal was amazing, the starters show the chefs creative flare, and they really set you up nicely for the mains - the steaks! Obviously, the pricing is VERY high, so can't say its the best 'value' in Dublin - but for special occasions of significance who wants value - you want a leisurely meal with delicious wine and a beautiful atmosphere - then this is the place for you.

Went to Shanahan's for lunch for an anniversary treat. We ordered off the set menu €45/head with 3 options for each course. I was slightly disappointed with the offerings for the 1st course as it was different to that advertised on the website and ended up ordering the ceaser salad, which while lovely is still just a salad on a rather expensive lunch menu. My husband had the salmon bilini which he enjoyed and the breads that came prior to the starter were amazing. In fact the bread is so good it is hard not to fill up on it so be careful! The steak main was fantastic and came with onion rings, really lovely spinach and potatoes. Both deserts were great as well. Wine list was extensive and petit fours and complimentary champagne was a lovely end to the meal. The service was impeccable and we really enjoyed the afternoon.

Had starter of smoked salmon on pancake, it was a v generous portion and it was v good. there was a soup and salad on offer. Mains were 6oz fillet steak, 8oz sirloin stake and fish. Steak was v good, served with mashed potato, spinach and fried onion, generous portions. desert was cheesecake, which was good. coffee was also served, although no petit fours as per menu!! Service as always is good and non-intrusive. bill was presented in order that we vacate table on time, although it did not appear that the table was needed!! I tend to visit Shanahans only two / three times a year and one of these occasions is always at Christmas when a gang of us get together for our annual Christmas Lunch. Since 2004 this has been in Shanahans. I retuned there in October for a meal with my wife and as usual the food was fantastic. The bread at the start, the onion rings and the steaks are always great. However they really need to cop on with the prices and realise that when every other restaurant in the country is fighting for business they cannot continue charging exorbitant prices for a steak, regardless of how good it is. There are several other establishments close by with quality exceptional quality steak at half the price of Shanahans. I had assumed that they would have reduced prices but was amazed to still see starters at €20 plus and an 8 oz Steak at almost €50. This is before ordering any additional rings etc!! I will admit the food is great but no greater then several other city centre restaurants. Needless to say we have decided to move the party of 16‘s Christmas Lunch to another venue in Dublin 2 who are offering some value and trying to entice people into the restaurant. Shanahans, great grub but please cop on! It may explain why the restaurant was almost empty the night we attended.

I never thought I'd actually eat here, I always thought it was far too expensive (though always wanted to anyway!) It was such a nice surprise then, when my father visited from the US & took my husband & I there for because he fancied "a great steak". A great steak indeed! Though we hadn't planned on it, we all went for the Early Bird. There was a good selection, and the Petit Filet was more than enough when you have three courses plus side dishes. The food was divine, I couldn't fault a thing. The service was top notch. The wine was fabulous (though the wine will push your bill up), and as a bonus, the waiter knew the wine list inside out. I had thought it might be a little 'stuffy', but it was nothing of the sort - we all found the atmosphere very relaxed and calm.. and we're already looking forward to our next visit back!
