Our intimate Georgian basement dining room retains many period features. The unique layout with open fire, hard-wood ceilings, fine table linens, modern art, original flag-stone floors and rough rendered walls lends the feel of a wealthy, rustic country manor house in rural France.
We use the very finest Irish and continental artisan ingredients to produce refined, modern French dishes. The cuisine is supplemented by an excellent and well-considered wine list drawing vintages from both classic Châteaux and other continental and new world regions.

We have gone here once a year for the last 8 years. We love this place! Every time is always special and the food is alway excellent. This year however my partner proposed to me in our favourite place to eat, DAX obviously! We love the atmosphere, the staff, and the FOOOOOOD! See you guys in December, or maybe sooner, I hope sooner!

Lovely settting, staff were fantastic, the walls are so thick there is no phone signal which can be a bonus for some (Neither of us would sit on our phones during dinner but I know many do). Then the food, small menu but a good variety to choose from. I personally prefer this, nothing worse than going into a restaurant & being handed a 5 page booklet to look through. What they do, they do to perfection. Price are reasonable for the standards you are getting. The staff are well trained on each plate & are well capable of answering any questions you have in regard to the food, how it is cooked & its contents. On top of the above, we were there on a very stormy night during winter, wind howling & rain coming down in biblical style. We required a taxi at the end of the night and without hesitating, the head waiter walked straight out the door & did not come back in until he flagged one down for us. Keep in mind, this is a classy restaurant, I would not turn up in a pair of jeans & a rugby top on, put in some effort & enjoy a night of food pampering. I also would not be taking my children with me, this place is somewhere for adults to get away from it all & spoil themselves a little, not to go out & have to listen to a child screaming or getting bored & throwing a tantrum. If that is the venue you are after I would suggest Joel`s on the Naas Road or McDonalds.

I've been here a few times and absolutely love it. Was there on a Taste voucher last Friday with my brother who is a real foodie. From start to finish the experience was fantastic. Service was excellent, food was amazing. Can't wait to return.

We come here every year for my birthday. It is a wonderful place. They remember us every year which is so nice. The waiting staff are brilliant. The were very helpful, when I when I couldn't decide what main to go with. The waiter helped me make my decision, by simply pointing out that you can get beef and duck any time. So I went with the venison. The waiter also picked out a wonderful wine for us, from my description of what I look for in a wine. The food has never disappointed us. We always love every bite, and we are left wanting more! I can't recommend this place enough. It is worth every cent. See you this December.

We had the six course tasting menu on a busy Friday night. I could not fault the food, it was all delicious, presented beautifully with perfect portion sizes to allow you to enjoy all 6 courses. Service was also excellent especially as it was busy - we were never waiting long. Highly recommended

i availed of the offer for the Tasting Menu and was completely delighted. I had never been to DAX before so was looking forward to it and not disappointed. Each course was delicious and well presented accompanied by excellent service. So good I'm going back end of August. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

My friend & I visited Dax on a voucher than we had from a groupon site (can't remember which one) but I have to say I loved the whole experience. The waiters were so polite and gave you their full attention, however they were very subtle & breezed around the restaurant in well controlled harmony. The food was possibly one of the nicest meals I've ever eaten. We had the 5 course taster meal and every mouthful was delish. The scallops were my favourite. Would highly recommend this restaurant. It is very expensive when not on a deal/voucher but I still think it would be worth it. The place to go for special occasion!! :)

I love the look and feel of this basement restaurant. Problems, though: 1. Over-priced food. Dax would be entitled to charge so much for their food if there was enough of it and it was tasty enough. It's above average in the taste department, certainly, but not wondrous! And the portions were very small. I went out, after three courses, still hungry. 2. Bad sound. The atmosphere is pretty good. But, they seem to have run out of money when it comes to background music - two cheap speakers sending tinny music bouncing about, sounding quite shrill and distracting at times. Get a proper sound system, guys! 3. Felt a bit hurried. In general the staff were very friendly, service pretty good. However, felt a bit rushed at times - our drinks grabbed and brought over to the dining area before we had acquiesced. Apart from these, enjoyed the evening. And even got a free appetizer to begin with, yay!

We visited Dax for lunch mid-week. The waiting staff were welcoming and friendly throughout. I could not fault the food - Rabbit sausage to start, gurnard for main and roulade for dessert. All beautifully presented, delicious and portion sizes just right to allow you to enjoy 3 courses. Would recommend

We came to Dax for an early bird dinner (before a concert at NCH) on a recommendation by Olivier, the owner! We chatted to Olivier for a while about how he came to be in Ireland and then it was on to the meal! We had some lovely home-made breads and an amuse bouche of quail. For starters I had the rabbit sausage which was really savoury, while my wife had a lovely trout tartar. For the mains we both went for the fish course of red snapper, with very good sized portions. For dessert I had the figs and cream, while my wife had a chocolate cake. Both were equally delicious. Service was very professional throughout and was very good value for money.

Myself and my husband dined here on Friday evening and it was amazing. We decided to go for the taster menu with wine. Out of this world. Each course bursting with flavour accompanied by a beautiful wine. The staff were excellent, attentive but unobtrusive. It's expensive but worth the treat. The restaurent was full on a bank holiday Friday. Great atmosphere

I dined at Dax for my birthday this year and was blown away by the service we received. The staff were so lovely and attentive and the food was delicious. My personal favourite was the chocolate fondant dessert...honestly the best I've ever had. Would go back just for that!

We went to Dax for our annual meeting last saturday at lunch time. The service and welcome was excellent and i had a nice glass of wine whilst waiting on others to arrive. We stayed for 4 hours and enjoyed the fact that we could talk, eat and be merry for that length of time. Thanks Dax

My visit to Dax last night has prompted me to join Menupages in order to leave a review.. I had booked it to mark a signifigant occasion with my girlfriend with the intention of trying out the 7 course tasting menu. We were humming and hawing for a bit and then decided to go for it, with the matched wine. At €125 per person for this option, it's not cheap by any means - I had great expectations.. ..Which, I have to say, were absolutely and comprehensively met. The menu was more or less as described on the website with one modification to the starters. Each course was sublime - I can't find fault with any part of it and found the flavours were balanced exceptionally well. In particular, I thought the plaice with langoustines was exquisite, along with the roasted quail, confit leg and foie gras mousse. Both dishes were stand out, even amongst the other courses served. The wine matches complimented the courses superbly and were very generous. The restaurant itself is a very nice place to be - the simple and rustic décor gives quite a homely feel to the restaurant and sets one at ease far easier than some of its Michelin-starred chums in Dublin. The waiting staff were discreet, efficient and very polite - a factor I had been conscious of observing given some of the reviews I had read on this website. Overall - the final judgement can only be in terms of value. Was it all worth the astonomical price for two people? Yes! It's a great chance to try a wide variety of dishes from the menu which, given the standard on show, is a fantastic treat. Very well worth a visit!

We went here for our anniversary yesterday. We had a fabulous meal. The waiters are very attentive, and the chef was very accommodating to allergies I have. My partner got the rib eye steak, he said it was amazing! The sear on the steak was the best we have ever seen. I had the lamb belly, it was very tender. It had mint taste right the way through the lamb belly. Everything was just perfect, from the appetizers to the dessert, this place is awesome! Ticks all the boxes in atmosphere-food-service.
