The beef bourginon was tender but excessively salty. I concluded the chef got lazy and dropped a bottle of soya sauce into the cooking pot. The chicken was very simple and frankly not memorable. Courteous waitress in pleasant al fresco surroundings. House Merlot very satisfying.

I can recommend this restaurant. We had great food but the service was excellent . Such a great atmosphere and the best ribeye steak. Loved every minute . Ask for seating in the upper terrace.

A few of us went here, two of the party had steak and chips which were fine. I had the house special which was Mussels in sauce and chips, very small mussels ,no plump ones hanging around here , quite tasteless. I also had a crab mix starter which was also tasteless. The place was full so maybe I was just unlucky?

My girlfriends parents brought us here, a French restaurant wouldn't be my first choice but it was surprisingly good. I got french onion soup to start and roast chicken for main which was all good! The restaurant was busy so there was a good buzz. I wouldn't be back in a hurry but her parents loved it so maybe you have to have finer taste than me..lol

We decided to give this place a go on a Saturday night and it was really busy. The atmosphere was lively but too noisy (which wasn't the restaurant's fault). The service was very slow and we had to ask to place our order. The food was ok but lacked any great flavour and I'm sure that a French native would have been very disappointed as the dishes don't make you want to visit France too soon! Obviously the wine list was all French but then again it wasn't too exciting. I doubt if we'll return but it's not too bad a place for a one off French meal.

Went here on a Menupages deal (great value for 2 €60 incl. a bottle of wine) with a friend, had crab starter, beef bourguignon and a berry panna cotta. Very, very good food. My only complaint would be that the harsh furnishings make it a little hard to hear your companion!

We ate here on a quiet Wednesday night and whilst the restaurant was quite busy, there was no real atmosphere. We were on a menupages voucher, which was fine in so much as the voucher menu was ok if rather limited when compared to the normal menu. What was not so good was the way the menu was presented. It felt like you were really in the cheap seats. Add to that that there was no bread to accompany the onion soup, whilst those around us on normal menus got bread with their soup.... would it have cost that much for a few inches of baguette? The mains were good, one steak and frites and one bouruignon... a bit on the small side but very tasty. The desserts were very limited, but our waitress allowed us to swap in a creme brulee. A nice offer but really the tarte aux pommes had to cost way more than a bit of custard, so why leave it off the voucher menu? Overall a very nice meal, good food and very good value, but was made feel a bit of a cheapskate when on the voucher. Would recommend the restaurant

very poor food.both starters ok. partners beek overcooked end tastless. my mussells just ok but sauce no flavour.Chips with mussells overcooked like left over chips in bottom of frying pan.complained to manager when he came to table to enquire about our meal. he agreed our complaint and offered alternative , but my partner declined at this stage and did not finish her main course.Complementary drink offered and accepted, but that is not the point. When special offers are offered they should be SPECIAL.We both want to forget. Appology for a dissaster is not a substitute for a nice dining experiense.I have purchased two other menue pages offers , I hope to have a better experience next time. 23/03/2014

Chez Max remains firmly at the top of our list of favourite restaurants in Dublin - the ambience is just perfect; chic but welcoming, busy but romantic. The French staff are friendly and chatty, and add an authenticity to the whole experience. The food is sublime and it's always hard to pass the delicious Moules Frites on the menu! Keep doing what you're doing Chez Max!

We were looking forward to this dinner, as we had heard and read so much good about Chez Max. I admit, this may have something to do with the food falling short, as we had allowed our expectations to rise really high.. Chez Max really has some unique decor, and the interior is great. It looks and feels nice to arrive, and that also builds up on getting a really nice meal.. We started with Goat's Cheese salad, and Onion soup. Both ok, but nothing special. We had Boeuf Bourguignon and Moules Frites as mains. Boeuf was again reasonably ok, but it did not impress too much. Mussels were nice, and with plenty to eat. Mussels were definitely the best course of the ones we had. We had Apple Tart and Panna Cotta as desserts, and they were ok when combined, but as their own they were not really good at all. Apple tart was served cold, and with some whipped cream on side. The texture was not too nice, and you got a feeling like it was pulled from fridge, added some cream and thrown to table.. Panna Cotta again was not right with the texture of it, and there was way too much jam on it. We ended up mixing a bit from both, and in that way we managed to get something somewhat tasty out of the two, but this is not one should be forced to do.. 5 Stars well deserved for decor, athmosphere, and really attentive service. Unfortunately the main thing, which is food, fell really short..

Dined here with a friend on a Thursday early bird. The place was quiet but it is a nice venue. The service was good and attentive. We had the crab which was only ok and also the onion soup which was nice. For mains we had the chicken which was nice but unfortunately the mussels was very poor and had to return the chips which tasted of oil. Overall a nice place but the food was below par.
