Went here with my partner last night with high expectations on foot of a good review in Irish Times. We were seated upstairs as booked ( the downstairs area was also open for dinner) but placed facing a bare alcove wall. To their credit we asked if we could move to a nicer table that became free and did so without fuss. The room itself has a very bare feel to it with distressed walls,hard tables and a wooded floor, all of which creates quite an a cold atmosphere. There was also a very strong musty smell in the room which my partner who was sitting at the wall found overbearing. The one saving dish of the evening was the poached duck egg starter, cut on top to resemble a Terry's orange, it was served on a little brioche with some beautifully cooked asparagus, perfection on a plate. My partner ordered the Iberian ham , which confused the waitress, she said she would have to check if they served it, even though it was written large on a blackboard beside her.It duly arrived sliced on a small serving plate and was as it says on the tin, so to speak. For mains I had the rib eye with home fries. It arrived sitting sadly on top of a pile of thick cut fries, looking rather industrial and though cooked medium as requested was nowhere near the quality you expect for €28, Cooked at home I would have done far better, a big disappointment. My partner had the mussels with fries and declared them OK but left the fries behind as they were more like wedges than chips.To drink we had a Portuguese house red at a reasonable €22 We had finished our starter and main within the hour or so and felt the room totally lacking in atmosphere, all the cooking is done downstairs leading to a very hollow and chilly upstairs room. We decided to cut our looses at this stage and went around the corner to Fallon and Byrne for a nice cheese plate and more wine. Not somewhere to go for a night out and will definitely not be returning

We visited 1st Floor DCF as we are big fans of the amazing sandwiches in their downstairs deli and were hoping for some tasty food. I'm happy to say we were not disappointed! A short and concise menu with gems such as braised beef short ribs and the biggest tastiest plate of mussels I've ever had, it was a winner. Couple this with very reasonably priced wine and super friendly and efficient service, this is one restaurant that we'll definitely be visiting again and again!
