Three of us called for lunch. We had been aiming for the bar lunch which we always found good comfort food but service did not start until three o clock on Sunday so we went to the restaurant. The room is lovely. White painted panelling and big windows to the street. Very nice plasterwork on the ceiling. However, the food was at best, mixed. Starters of melon and soup were good. The main courses of lamb, chicken and salmon were a bit more doubtful. The lamb came with about an inch of sauce which did not disguise the fact that it was cold. The tarragon sauce with the chicken had a pretty synthetic taste. Desserts were ok but again, synthetic cream . However, the one which really took the biscuit was that a server sat down to soup and roll, in the dining room, in full uniform . Then got up to take payment while chewing the roll. A member of the Management team was in the room and seemed totally unphased. Not what I expect for €25 per head. Such a pity for a fine old establishment .

The food here is just terrible. With so many better options in Dublin nowadays, why take a trip back to the bad old days? Pity, as there is a nice Miss-Marpley feel to the place. Maybe they should think of doing a nice afternoon tea style instead.
