The Oval Bar is an authentic Irish Pub situated idyllically in the heart of Dublin City. Housed by a beautiful Victorian building with most of its period features still intact, The Oval is the perfect place to escape from the hectic hustle and bustle of the city outside. Located on Middle Abbey Street right at the hub of commercial life in the city, The Oval provides a haven of welcome and warmth for office workers on lunch, busy shoppers looking to recharge their batteries, visiting tourists looking for the ‘Craic’ and music, cinema and theatre goers looking for a bite to eat and a drink before or after their show.

Once you step inside you will experience the relaxed and convivial nature of this charming pub. Our Staff are welcoming and friendly and will ensure that your stay is a pleasant one. With over 3 floors of seating and a large function area with its own private bar facilities available to rent we can accommodate any size group. We also have an outdoor seating area for those lazy Dublin summer evenings.

Our kitchen serves a full menu daily with Traditional Irish Stew being one of our specialities! Other dishes on offer can be found on our menu page.

The Oval has long been renowned as an exceptional place to watch ‘the match’, we show all the major sporting events on our wide screen LCD TVs and has also a great atmosphere for pre or post match celebrations for patrons going to and from Croke Park.

The Oval – home of the best Pint of Guinness in Dublin, try it, you won’t be disappointed!

Can't fault this place, nice for a light lunch or a dinner if that's what you're after! The staff are always welcoming! The one side note I do have, is the access to the bathrooms for women (not sure about mens) which are down a huge stairs, leaving my mum tired and out of breath. Otherwise top class!

Had some food here on Monday before a gig in the Academy. Not bad, decent burger and chips. Bangers and mash looked great though. Service was fine, prices were a bit steep for pub grub. The pint of Guinness was good, but it still kills me in Dublin having to pay more than €4 for a pint of anything. The quicker they publicans learn the more money they'll make. There is nothing like the sheer joy you get when a pint is less than 4 quid :)!

Popped in here for a quick bite on Obama day! I had a lovely chicken curry with chips, which was very tasty and well presented. The staff are friendly, and it didn't feel as awkward as it usually does, to eat my dinner up at the bar! Boyfriend had a steak sandwich. Wasn't the best cooked or quality of steak but it was good value for money. Will eat here again

Dropped in here to catch the second half of the match that night and was pleasantly surprised. The bar is spread over 3 floors, the biggest of which is the ground floor. There are big screens for the match on each level.I sat up on the 2nd floor and just had some chips with my drink. They were very nice. They do the usual pub grub at reasonable prices and I noticed they do a goats cheese salad also which I will come back to try. There was a very nice laid back atmosphere in the place and plenty of people eating very good size portions on the 2nd floor. The bar has retained many original features which is nice to see especially as it is a historical pub mentioned in Ulysses, and is very cosy.A great spot for a relaxing drink or pub food right in the centre of Dublin.

I had a good experience here. I admit i didnt order a meal as such just the chips as i was primarily out for a drink but just to say the waiting staff couldnt do enough to tend to the needs of patrons. A lot of people seemed to be ordering the chicken goujons with fries&salad and devouring the lot heartily and at very reasonable prices by the look of the menu. If you want a really quiet private drink or eat go upstairs as it was quiet there even on a world cup nite. The bar downstairs is more lively and bustling when it gets going. I suppose the only slight downside for this place was the rather small dingy toilet.

Soup and sandwiches, tasty and decent sizes. Two steps from O'Connell Street, nice friendly service and pint bottles of Guinness, perfect.

Like all of Charlie Chawkes pubs you cannot complain about the quantity or value. This is though at the end of the day pub grub only. I had the burger and chips which I could hardly finish and my friend had a huge portion of fish and chips. We throughly enjoyed eveything as our main goal for the day was a few pints and there was plenty of soakage provided. Will go back for pints and might have food when I'm there but would not visit just for a meal.

went for lunch with my work mate she ordered the veggi soup and i order the lamb irish stew. My workmate found the soup horrific, it was tasteless even if you added pepper. My lamb irish stew was nothing special. However the waitress was bubbly and very helpful and even though the food was not amazing she more than made up for it with her service.

Had lunch here last week. It was ok. Got Lasagne with chips and to be honest thought it was a bit small as did my friend. Nice layout and bright but more of drinking pub than food pub i think.

A great pub with great pub food. Been here for lunch many a time. Last visit I had the cod and chips which was a big portion and tasted great accompanied by a great pint of Guinness. My friend had BBQ ribs which he gave thumbs up. The food looked good and was presented well by the chef, which isn't really vital for pub food. The Oval is always high on my list when I'm in the area looking for a bite.

I ate here for lunch today. The food was delish! The service was excellent and the staff were all very warm and friendly. The menu has a wide tasty variety to suit all. It is very comfortable and well laid out. There are lots of seats upstairs & downstairs. As it is also in a prime location I WILL DEFINATLY BE EATING HERE AGAIN, and will be recommending it to all my family and friends.

Went for lunch in this very busy bar last week. Food was tasty, typical pub grub- sandwiches, paninis, burgers, chicken goujons, chips etc. This pub is famous for its Irish stew and my colleague ordered it - it looked nice, served with brown bread and she announced that it was delicious. Service was slow, there was only one person serving upstairs so we had quite a wait for our meals. However, we enjoyed our lunch and will return maybe on a day off from work when we would not have to rush our food.
