I had been to The Celt previously but never eaten there, and as we were in the area, we decided to stop by and try the food. It was busy enough, but the four of us managed to find a table in the conservatory-style area at the back. The table next to ours ordered the bangers and mash, which looked very good, so I decided to try that. One of our group was vegetarian, and was disappointed to find that there were no vegetarian main course options at all. He was offered the sole vegetarian main course from Le Bon Crubeen next door, but this was considerably more expensive, so he had to settle for just chips. As the table we were at was adjacent to the door to the smoking area, we found it very cold with people in and out constantly, so when another table became free, we moved to it. I used to be a waiter, and know that customers moving tables can be a bit confusing, so I made sure to tell both the barman AND our waiter (when I found him) that we had moved table, however this still caused massive confusion when the food came out from the kitchen, and earned us scornful looks from the food runners. My bangers and mash were incredibly underwhelming. The sausages themselves were at best half the size of the ones at the table beside us earlier. Even a stranger on the next table agreed with this when they overheard my remarks. The mash portion looked smaller on the plate also. A friends fish and chips were better, but due to their "thick cut" style, the chips numbered in the single digits. Worse still was the vegetarian who received only five (yes, five!) chips in his €3.50 side portion. I wanted to like The Celt's food, but the whole experience left us very underwhelmed. A shame, as they do a very good pint and the craic can be mighty of a weekend evening.

Quick, tasty and easy on the pocket - exactly what good pub food should be. Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. There were some good Irish tunes playing in the background but they weren't too loud so we could actually hear each other speak. We both ordered the chicken caeser wrap. We were considering sides but the wrap arrived with a lovely side salad and good chunky home made chips so there was plenty in it. We had a pint and a bottle of beer with lunch and we were very surprised at how cheap the bill was. Very friendly staff there too! Looks like a good traditional bar that would be fun to go out in at night. Will be visiting The Celt again very soon!

In town to see Obama but got an even bigger thrill when myself and three friends discovered this gem on Talbot St. Where have you been hiding all this time? We tried the beef in guiness and the pigs trotters - wow! The staff were just lovely, full of chat and very welcoming. We stayed for a few drinks and had a great evening. We will all, definitely be back!!

This place is terrific. Only a couple blocks off the main O'Connell Street run by the Liffey (near Clery's), I decided to walk around to find a place to eat. (I am an American student studying abroad in Dublin this semester.) I really like little pubs and off-the-beaten-path restaurants, so The Celt caught my eye when I walked by it. The atmosphere was great. I sat at the bar, and there are signs, posters, and pictures of just funny things and historic Irish Rebellion signs. It was a great place to go and relax, and quite a few "regulars" came in while I was there. (They knew the owner, at least.) Nice rustic wood gives the place a lot of character. The food is delicious! I ordered the beef & guinness stew and it was one of the tastiest meals I've had since I've been here! The meat was extremely tender, the mash was excellent and very flavorful, and the mixed vegetables came in a delicious buttery sauce. After devouring my food, the owner--a kind and funny old Irish guy--joked that I "must not have liked it" because there was no food left on my plate. They also have a good beer selection. I had to have a Guinness or two and the owner built them perfectly. I think that was my first Irish Guinness, and the proper Irish way of pouring it gives it a much better taste than I had in the U.S. The only downfall of The Celt was that it didn't accept credit cards. This didn't affect me because I brought cash, but there were a few times the owner had to tell people that they couldn't accept credit cards and to go to the ATM down the street. I have recommended this place to quite a few people and will try and get back soon!

The Celt has got character and it makes for a great Trad pub when a session kicks off in the evening and weekends, and you want to show a visitor to Dublin an Irish pub with plenty of "1916 Rebellion" memorabilia. Their short bar menu boasts and impressive selection of typical Irish dishes and we decided to give it s go. The Dublin Celt Coddle came out 2/3 minutes after I ordered it-how fresh was it is a mystery. Consisting of 1 boiled potato (in two halves), 1 bolied carrot (sliced), plenty of celery and parsley, lukewarm salty water- this truly was Traditional Irish food the way the used to have it (perhaps not so long ago). Avoid their somewhat edible "tourist" stuff. When visiting The Celt my advice is to stick to your drink ONLY.

Went here for after work drink and food with work colleague. I had the steak, an absolute steal at €12.50. It arrived accompanied with mash, fries, carrots, turnip, gravy n onions. It all tasted georgous and such good value. My colleague had the smoked haddock chowder (€6.95). She almost ate the bowl. Great food, excellent value, will definately be back
