Childhood friends, Edward Smith and Caroline Barry always dreamed of owning a wine bar. Their passion for fine wine and great coffee is shared by Leeann King, who they befriended in recent years, a ménage a trois’ that resulted in the opening of Bach 16 Wine & Bistro Limited on Dublin’s Bachelor’s Walk, in December of 2013.

Both Caroline and Leeann worked together for years as managers in the leisure industry. When Edward, who owns Suburbia Magazine came to them with the idea of Bach 16, having learned that an advertiser with Suburbia who resided at 16 bachelor’s walk had moved on and the premises was available to let, the girls jumped at the idea of making their dream a reality.

The name Bach 16 didn’t come easy. The three friends mulled over numerous suggestions from family and friends before Bach 16 , which other than the obvious origins of the name, the address ’16 Bachelor’s Walk’ Bach 16 is also a play on Sebastian Bach’s sixteenth Symphony and that there are notes in music and in wine…

was pretty empty so atmosphere hard to gauge-maybe more of a night than lunch time place.never saw a club sandwich served that way and hopefully never will again.very plain.no veg. salad on the side were just a couple of leaves with a dribble of dressing.no brown bread available-only white.waited 20mins for sandwich-wouldn't mind so much if it was busy or if we were given apology but nothing said. For over 20bucks for 2 sandwiches I expect better value

WOW, what an absolute gem this place is. On arrival the staff where so friendly and welcoming. They chatted casually with us and let us choose a nice table in the window. My friend and I had afternoon tea which I would highly recommend from the homemade pesto to the fresh warm scones this was a lovely treat for a Friday afternoon. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

No reservation was not a problem. The staff accommodated us and made us feel so welcome. We had the prawns and salad for starter. Then we had a pizza each and they were delicious. The staff were attentive and so full of character that it was hard to leave and head out into the cold. This is a little gem of a restaurant and we will be back again.

Visited Bach 16 on a Sunday afternoon having phoned to book a table as we were using a voucher. We were greeted by name by Caroline, always a good start. We had visited twice before, but were treated like very regular and valued customers. Our voucher included a glass of wine each and Caroline went to the effort of finding out our likes and dislikes before recommending an Argentinian Malbec. It was a gorgeous wine and we had two very enjoyable and generous glasses each. We had a pizza each, mine the goats cheese and chorizo with just the right amount goats cheese, my dining partner had the Hawaiian and thoroughly enjoyed it. We finished our meal with a very good coffee. As we were leaving we were thanked by name, a very personal touch I think. We will be back, the pizzas are home made, the wine top quality and the personal service the best I have come across in a very long time.

It was a Sunday afternoon when we visited and I had called ahead to book a table as it is such a small pace. I mentioned about getting a gluten free base and so long as you give some notice they are very accommodating with this.I had a glass of Argintinian Malbec at €6.25… this is my fave red wine and is usually from €8 – €11 for a glass. So I straight away ordered that interested to see if it was decent – and it was. Obviously the other side of the river prices differ vastly! We both decided to go for pizza & chose the Goat’s Cheese, Roasted Pepper & Chorizo (€13) & the Pepperoni (€10.25) This pizza was amazing, thin and crispy with a generous portion of the tasty toppings. I can’t say any more than it was absolutely delicious. After letting the pizzas digest we got tempted by the dessert board offering Tiramasu or a Chocolate Mousse for €5.50…so we ordered a cappuccino and the Tiramasu which arrive in a little jar with some biscotti on the side. All was fab! Wouldn't hesitate to return to this little gem but recommend booking as it's so small and cosy.

Ate in Bach again on Saturday with my boyfriend. We have been coming in here since it opened & have never been disappointed. Food, ambience & staff are all stellar. First time I was in there last year it was a freezing night but it was so cosy we didn't want to leave. Love the decor too, very classy.

Went here with a voucher. Lovely quaint little restaurant. Definitely a little bit different than the norm. We had a table at the window so could look at the world go by. Served by Leeann who couldn't have been nicer, looking for feedback etc on our night. Both had pizza with the most remarkably thin base. All in all a lovely experience and we will be back..

I went here with some friends beautiful cheese and meat platters more than plenty for two. The sandwich selection and pizzas looked delicious too. Wine superb and desserts to die for. Service friendly and effcient. Only gripe is it is very small you have to have a reservation as not a lot of tables and only one toilet. I know it's a wine bar but would probably not be able to bring hubby here as no beer but would definately come for lunch again to try out the pizza and sambos.

Restaurant response:
Hi MrsMac, thank you for your review. We will be getting a beer licence next month:-) Kindest Regards, Edward, Bach 16
