AWARDS & PRIZES

We seek out the best establishments in every part of Ireland for inclusion in our guides and, because we work independently and without charging a fee, you know that we can be trusted to lead you to the best places over a wide range of categories. Good Food Ireland is an industry driven food tourism organisation which was established in November 2006. Many good food operators in a cross-section of establishments all around the island from restaurants to accommodation, pubs to food shops to cookery schools wanted to be recognised and endorsed for their commitment to using Irish, local and artisan food produce. They wanted to share experiences and be cooperatively marketed to the domestic and international tourist. Agriculture and Tourism, two vital economies for Ireland have so much in common and are yet so far apart. Through Good Food Ireland the industry from both these sectors share a common belief and come together as one. Good Food Ireland brings you the visitor or domestic consumer what we believe is the only way to get a true taste of Ireland. In 1900, André Michelin published the first edition of a guide to France to help drivers maintain their cars, find decent lodging, and eat well while touring. In 1926, the guide introduced the star to note good cooking; two and three stars were added in the early 1930s. The guide awards one to three stars to a small number of restaurants of outstanding quality. Fodors helps you unleash the possibilities of travel by providing the insights and tools you need to experience the trips you want. And we are confident that were giving you the best information because our products are written by people who live there. We seek to hire local writers who know their destinations better than anyone else. Our worldwide team of over 700 travel writers bring you the latest, most accurate coverage, and like trusted companions, reveal local treasures and everything you need to know before you arrive. Every year, the Bridgestone editors set out to find those restaurants that offer the best cooking and the best service in Ireland. This book features grand city restaurants, and tiny little one-room restaurants in the wilds of the country. There are restaurants located on islands, and restaurants that reverberate with the energy and mania of the city.

Went for the early bird menu here. This restaurant was excellent in every respect, perfectly cooked food. I would also describe it as very healthy food, not laden with cream, found in some other restaurants. Very pleasant waiting staff and fast service. We will be back.

My wife and I had dinner at O'Connor's on a Saturday night. The restaurant was busy, but the staff were excellent; we were never waiting too long for attention, and the table next to us were bantering a little with their servers who took the fun in their stride. The food was excellent. I had a starter involving the most delicious pudding I've ever eaten, and monkfish for the main course; my wife had a crab linguini starter and a whole-fish main course (sole, I think - from the specials board, in any case). Desserts were a date pudding (sort of like sticky toffee pudding, only more decadent!) and a sorbet. We had a glass of shiraz each to accompany dinner, and water was also provided free of charge. As we arranged to go, the proprietor called a taxi for us to take us back to our hotel. Delighted with the food, service, ambience and prices; I'd definitely stop by here again. Minor areas for improvement: the website menus are out of date ("A La Carte 2014"), and a carafe of the house wines would have been a nice option, but neither of these detract from what was a lovely night out.

My husband and I visited this restaurant a few weeks ago and were very disappointed. We both chose from the daily specials board and our fish main courses were both overcooked.

Visited the restaurant only a few weeks ago. The staff will have to get tops marks first off. Very efficant and thought of everything. The food I have to say I was not too impressed with. I thought it was nice but for the price of it, it could have been alot nicer. I would not be running to go back there.

Had a fabulous meal here. Had no booking and was almost full but took us in as we said we would not be that long. We had our 2 children with us. We went for the specials menu and I had the apple and goats cheese salad with honeyed pecan nuts, it was amazing. There was so many good things to choose from on the specials menu, it was hard to decide what to have. I had duck for my main course and it did not disappoint. They made 2 proper dinners for the kids with roast chicken and mash potato with separate veg, even though this was not on the menu. Great place to eat, but as we dined at 6.30, this was the reason we got a table. About 10 couples came in after and were refused a table as they were booked out. If you would like to eat here, book well in advance. We tried to book for the next night but they were booked out.

I had heard a lot of good things about O'Connors and as we were celebrating we decided to try it. The staff were very friendly from the outset and our waitress was very knowledgeable on the menu and how each dish was cooked. We had a huge range of specials to choose from which made it quite hard to choose. I had asparagus to start which was cooked perfectly. It was served with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce. The portion was huge so I halved it with my other half (who was saving himself for the main course!!). For mains we had turbet served with cous cous and and Bantry Bay Prawns and more than plenty veg and potatoes - their home made chips were the best we have had anywhere for many years - big, crispy and hot. We had planned on having dessert but we really were too full so had an Irish Coffee to finish off which were very good and made without the cream mixing with the coffee (a skill in itself). It was a little pricey so you wouldn't be going every week. The only negative about the evening was that the tables (for 2) were really close together and we were put sitting next to another couple. Both tables were aware that we could hear each others conversations and we were glad that the other couple finished and left before our main course arrived.

Very cosy, but a bit pricey! Large portions and very good food. Friendly staff also. I enjoyed my visit here and would definitely recommend it!

Had lunch here recently. Had the Mussels in Garlic breadcrumbs to start. The were so tastey. Really, really lovely. had the open crab sandwich to follow. Wasn't as good but was ok. There was certainly enough there anyway. Restaurant was comfortable but was a little "snug" .I had my little one with me and they were very accommodating. Overall, it was nice and I would go back if only for the mussels!!!

We went to this restaurant for our christmas work dinner. I have eaten here on a number of occasions in the past and it never disappoints. Although I am a vegetarian, I still love to eat here. They usually only have one vegetarian dish on the menu on any given night but it is always a different one each time and has always been delicious. The desserts are yummy too! Portions are more than sufficient as the food tends to be on the rich side. Looking forward to my next visit!!

Had a wonderful meal in O'Connors last Saturday. We were celebrating, and I'd booked it through menu pages requesting a quiet corner. On arrival we were led to the booth at the back, and made feel very welcome from start to finish. We ordered some champagne, and they brought a dish of strawberries and cream to go with it which was a nice touch. The meal itself was just amazing, chowder to start and then lobster for me, was my first time having it but won't be the last! Overall a great experience and would definitely recommend

Had fish and chips for lunch and what appeared to be home made split pea mushy peas - if you see what I mean. However this surpassed my previous best fish and chips which I had in that pub in Union Hall. Big chunk of fresh fish with light crispy batter and a small portion of chips (small = good in this case). Have eaten here before in the evening - a bit average, overcooked meat (not uncommon in Ireland) and, as ever, very expensive moderately drinkable wine. Still, currently my fave restaurant in the County - in spite of getting an 'award'.

I absolutely LOVE O'Connor's! Their mussles are gorgeous! I have been a few times and get them different each time, delicious! Last time there I decided to go for something different and got the rack or lamb, normally I only order seafood in a seafood restaurant, which I already know O'Connors do great, but the lamb was possibly the best I have ever had
