BLAIRS INN Corned Beef and Cabbage. As a starter! Yes and it proved a really tasty beginning to an excellent weekend meal at Blairs Inn. What a menu they have there. If you combine the pages from the bar and restaurant menus, I reckon you could be eating there for a year and still have combinations to explore. And then there are the drinks. There is an excellent wine list, for sure. But also lots of local (and international) drinks including craft beers from Dungarvan, Carlow, Eight Degrees (North Cork) and the new cider sensation Stonewell by the Nohoval Brewing Company. After a big welcome and a chat with Richard we sat down in the cosy restaurant – they also have a lovely garden dining area – to go through the menus. My starter was a Warm Tian of O’Crualaoi’s Corned Beef and Cabbage with a creamy Parsley dressing (€7.70). If you get out there, you should really try this. The beef, supplied by the well known Ballincollig butcher, was spot-on as was everything else in this well presented cylinder shaped offering of good local food. Then on to the main course: Pan fried fillets of Sea Bass on a Chorizo mash with a sundried tomato and rocket dressing and a side plate filled with vegetables and another with gratin potato, both done to perfection. Again, another excellent plateful. And a big plateful. Indeed, both starter and mains were quite substantial, so much so that I had to forego the dessert. They helpfully suggest, on the menu, various drinks with each course; the tips for me were a wheat beer with the starter and a dry cider with the fish. I was in the mood for wine and settled on a bottle of their highly recommended an excellent Hopler Gruner Veltliner (Burgenland, Austria) 2009 (€26.95). You get a great welcome here and also help and advice. Quite a few tourists make their way here and they must be impressed with the local knowledge that the owners and staff so freely dispense. Lovely food, lovely place and lovely people. A return visit is on the cards. And not just for me.

Myself and my father were here for Lunch. We have been here maybe four or five times in the last year. There is a reason that we keep coming back. We both had the chicken and Mushroom Vol au Vent's they were amazing, the pastry, creamy sauce. Everything. Then we had the Wild Venison (I am thinking it was stew but there is ome french name for it that I just cant really remember now) in a red wine sauce with a hint of Dark Chocolate. This was very very tasty indeed. I would have it again no problems and I would recommend this as well. The veg came out perfect. There seems to be a great wine selection and beer selection but as i was driving we didnt have any. Once you go in the main door you can see all the awards Bridgestone etc etc. Service is impeccable and its a nice homely pub. Definitely recommend. Though we didnt have nay deserts to be honest i am sure that they would be rather spectacular.

The atmosphere here is great, especially if you can book the back room. The staff are very friendly. It isn't cheap, but Sunday lunches are very good value.

Three of us went for lunch during the mid-term break and really enjoyed the meal. The service was friendly and efficient. For starters we had the goats cheese tartlets for one and two chicken and mushroom vol au vents. Both dishes were excellent. Main courses consisted of lambs liver with bacon, corned beef and lamb shank. All were very tasty - excellent comfort food for a wet and windy day ! The decor was typical country pub and was exceptionally comfortable. I couldn't afford to eat here every week, but it is well worth a visit now and again as the quality is really good.

This place is on the way back! I was a regular a few years ago however called a halt when my seafood chowder was basically warm cream with a huge crab claw and the sum total of main course vegetables was a mashed turnip (oh yes the whole turnip!!) However I have heard excellent reviews recently and decide to check it out for myself, must say it was top notch, very impressed, a little pricy but don't mind once the meal is quality and enjoyable! Service was good, nice country pub vibe if that is what you are after!

Dined with 4 friends on a Mon night. Lovely place but very quiet. Roaring fire which made for a lovely atmosphere. The food was excellent, though a bit pricey. No sign of any special menu etc which most restaurants are doing now. The only down-side was the ladies toilet - the smell was that of a public toilet - it was a pity as it was a lovely evening apart from that.

Lovely restaurant, with nice open fires Really relaxing and comfortable. Really Great Food although Prices Are quite High in Times like these you want more bang for your buck! Service is fine, Nice and polite. The menu seems to lack though as it is mostly the same throughout the Menus, Only with a beef lasagne and shepards pie in the Evening bar menu to add a difference. Nice to see fresh fish and seafood cooked simly very well though. Nice to see Ardrahan Farmhouse Cheese, St. Tola Goat’S Cheese on the menu as well as Baldwin’s Farm Made Ice Cream. Cuts abouve the usual Cheese and adds Local Produce to the menu! The menu could do with a bit of a shake up to get in a few new items, New food in season and coming into season as well Definatly Worth a visit Though Good Food You wont find else where!

We went here for a birthday celebration and the atmosphere is lovely with great service and an open fire which was lovely on a chilly evening. The food was also great and plentiful! The one comment is that I feel a number of restaurants that I eat in particularly in Dublin have adjusted their prices to take account of recent times and I feel that this restaurant was over priced with starters at on average €10. I would love to see a set menu for dinner which offers more value for diners as I would go back to this restaurant again

Excellent food! My Wife and I dropped in on a saturday a few weeks ago as part of our tour of Cork! I'm not a fussy eater as long as they have steak on the menu so fitted in here perfectly:)! My wife on the other hand is a vegetarian who i have given up cooking for unless she wants beans on toast. To my surprise she was very pleased and it even stopped her moaning about me getting lost earlier in the day! Overall we were very happy and will probably drop in again over the next 5 years at some stage when we make it back to Cork.
