Bates Restaurant, Rathdrum

Bates Restaurant has a heritage that stretches back over a quarter of a century. The concept behind Bates is to offer truly world-class cuisine but with extraordinary value. To that end, the menus and fresh ingredients are noteworthy but also of importance is the atmosphere and character of this old hostelry: It looks formal but it is in fact very relaxed and comfortable. Bates has been around for a very long time and the commitment of the management and staff and customers means that it will still be here in another 250 years.

Dinner with better half, at 7.30. Place was very busy but our table was ready. Nice service and good value menu. I had prawn and scallops lovely dressing, she had the fish cake , alot of fish in it. I had the mixed grill ( two steaks, lamb chop, chicken breast with onions and mushrooms), and she had sea bass. Both very good with chunky chips, mash and side salad. I had cheese board , huge and glass of port lovely, she had toffee pudding. water and bottle of Sho fly shriaz at 23€ was excellent. Great value(103€)hard to fault and very busy. Lovely pint in Cartoon as well.

Again a wonderful experience at Bates, this time for Sunday lunch. All food cooked perfectly to order. Starters were, scrumptious, 3 of us got the fish cakes with delicious butter sauce, one member of our party got the soup which was lovely also. I had the pork belly, which was beautifully presented in circular parcels and all other members of our party had steak, which went down a treat also. I see there is an early bird dinner menu advertised 2 courses for E15.50 - ABSOLUTE BARGAIN!! Cant wait to book and venture to Rathdrum again!!
