Saturday evening, dining in style. Not much to sy about the food: melt-in-mouth sea trout for my fiancée, less-than-a-mile wild garlic soup for me, (superb if not exactly hot) followed by roast monkfish which had been specially prepared for my fiancée to allow for her dairy allergy. The service was attentive and pleasant, sometimes tongue-in-cheek (the mignardises are not dairy free, so they brought them in saying "this is not for you madame" :-) I would have given half a point more for the choice of desserts -- although I tasted her assorted sorbets, and they were divine, my carrot cake was nicely assembled but not as memorable as other desserts I had in restaurants of a lesser class. But I will certainly come back. Two suggestions: dine early, to enjoy the live entertainment in the bar (ends at 11), and don't overdress -- there are people there in golf gear and polo shirts, despite the prestige surroundings.

Our second visit, this time it was my birthday and what a culinary experience! My other half was happy with his choice of appetiser of crab meat and then hake for for his main course, my foie gras terrine was very good but the highlight was my sirloin steak - tender, juicy and nicely red in the middle. I ordered a sauce but didn't use it with my steak because it would spoil the excellent piece of cow who certainly died for a very noble cause. I had the pineapple parfait for dessert and my husband had the raspberry souffle, very light and delicious. I also appreciated the very nice touch at the end when I was brought a little piece of chocolate cake with a lit candle on a beautifully decorated plate.

The last time I was here was for Father's Day in 2011 and I gave it an excellent review. We returened as family last Sunday (Mother's Day) and what a difference. Yes, the staff were agin extremely pleasant and professional, the table layout and ambience first class ... but ...oh the food was terrible. There was a only a choice of two dishes for each course on the €33 set lunch. I opted for the goats chhese with red pepper jelly. It was well presented but very bland in taste. The main course was hake which was simply not fresh. It was not "off" but had that strong flavour that one associates with fish past its best. Others had a daube of beef which had long gelatinous strings of stewed gristle in it. Just not good enough for a restaurant of this pedigree. I cannot I say I won't ever be back, but I won't be in any rush

Dined at the Chef's Table. The overall experience was amazing and I would definitely recommend it. I would have loved to have tried the tasting menu, however, we were a party of seven and opted for the a la carte. The food was fabulous and so impressively presented. Hopefully will be lucky enough to return and give the tasting menu a go.

Went here for Sunday lunch today. We were a party of six adults and two girls aged 10 and 13, and were seated in a semi-private area (curtain could optionally be drawn). This suited us really well as we could converse and banter easily amongst ourselves. The first thing I noticed was crumbs on the floor under the table, which was surprising, as there was otherwise good attention to detail. The staff were extremely pleasant and obliging. The menu was quite limited, though it made it easier for people to decide! We were presented with a good choice of fresh breads to start with and a choice of still, sparkling or tap water. One of our party has a wheat/gluten intolerance, and was presented with two delicious gluten-free rolls, which she really appreciated. The kids were presented with their own, quality menu. I had the seafood bisque to start with, which was substantial, but tasty. My main of pork shoulder was good, except the mashed potatoes were a bit salty. The rum-and-raisin ice cream filled profiteroles with toffee sauce were not so much to my taste - the choux pastry was minimal and not chewy, and I prefer cream and chocolate sauce, but then I did order it... The prices were €37 for three courses, €29 for two and €24 for kids' three courses (note cheaper than the advertised offer on this website). A great selection of petit fours was presented with the coffees (which were extra). Everyone was happy with their food, with clean plates all round. Given the level of service, the setting and the quality of the food, I think this is excellent value and I'll be back! The toilets are a little tricky to find, but very clean and luxurious, with a separate wheelchair facility. I had to walk over to the restaurant entry desk to get/pay the bill, but the staff member I dealt with was very patient and accommodating when my credit card refused to work after several tries.

Really enjoyed the ambiance and the comfort and warmth of the dining room. Some points on the staff, too many maitre d' types wandering around, many of whom were incredibly hard to understand. The waiter serving the bread was equally as hard to understand. The tomato bread was delicious but the only one out of the selection that was anyway extraordinary. I had a lovely goats cheese and caramelised onion tart to start with. Really good size. My dining partner had scallops which were lovely albeit quite cold. I also ordered a glass of their Rioja to have with my meal which at €10 per glass I felt could be filled a little bit more. The waiter also dripped the red wine on the tablecloth while pouring - a real pet hate! For main course we both chose Steaks. We were watching the staff all evening (you have no choice with the way the tables are arranged for twos) and noticed one waiter appear from the kitchen with two main courses in hand and looking a little lost as nobody seemed to be waiting for them! The wine spilling maitre d' glanced at us and it was at that point we realised it was our steaks sitting there hovering and getting cold! Waiter didn't think they were ours as our starter plates had never been cleared! Such bad service and no apology to us when the steaks were then brought over to us given we had witnessed all of this! Steaks obviously slightly cold, both steak sauces had a film on them as they had obviously been sitting in the kitchen so long but the broccoli and mushrooms we requested made up for it! I had a rhubard crumble and my partner had profiteroles for desert, neither of which were anyway like what it said on the tin and I think they should warn you about that. My poached rhubard was also cold which I was surprised at. Lovely petit fours followed. Glad to say I went but can't imagine Gordon would be impressed!!!Maybe that's why he has since reviewed the spot!

Went here for breakfast on a Sunday morning and it was just fabulous. Such an amazing treat. There was a huge range of food and it was all absolutely gorgeous quality. Made to order omelettes were fantastic! I requested gluten free bread and the nicest stuff I've ever had was brought out, warm, and freshly cooked. Gorgeous! Service was great, and the place is really bright, clean and relaxed. There's a lovely terrace outside too which was amazing on the sunny day we were there. The price has to be mentioned though! €29 per person for breakfast isn't exactly cheap! As a special treat, I think it would be worth it though. A really wonderful and lovely experience!

When brought here for a suprise dinner by my partner I was taken with the beautiful building as I've been there before for beauty treatments. The restuarant was quite an experience. With only 1 other table occupied it was quite open and felt impersonal. When asked did we want a jug of water the waiter brought out a bottle of water and charged us for it. The portions were very small and my partner ordered a rack of ribs and only 1 rib appeared on the plate! Although it was enough food for me my partner left feeling hungry. With its lack of ambience and price tag I think I expected more and it did not deliver.

Firstly - wonderful food!!! 3 of us ate there and had the 4 course taster menu at €75 pp. For what we got this represented very good value (As there were lots of treats between courses. The food we got was as follows:- >Steak Tartare in a warm beed consomme > Ham knuckle and Fois Gras Terrine > Quail and chestnot for me (Scallops for the others as I cannot eat fish! - More on that in a minute) > Venison with purple potato, chocolate and chestnut crumble (yes chocolate) and a minature savoy cabbage stuffed with a chicken and smoked ham puree. > Warm chocolate fondant with a liquor bon bon (The liquor had 23 different herbs and you dip into the fondant so it warms and melts) > Petit 4s and bon bons > Cheesecake with sugared rasberries and bitter apple sorbet... I am salivating just recalling this... yum yum... So now for the few small issues that reduce this from a perfect score. > Table was not swept down following bread and starters - This should be standard silver service > I specified I could not eat seafood (On 3 separate occasions when asked) - Yet they served me scallops. When I mentioned this they took it away and prepared me quail but they left my 2 fellow diners with their food which they had no option but to eat in front of me - This should have been cleared and all of us serverd at correct and same time. > Drinks - Pricey. Clearly where the money is made All in all though a real pleasure and something very special indeed

This is fine dining as it should be. Great flavours, great food, great wine and great service. Obviously the price tag reflects this so save it for special occasions.

One thing i will say about this place is try the seafood risotto,i couldnt get enough of it, and followed by the cheescake really topped it off. My boyfriend had taste of ireland menu. Lots of little taste in between courses was nice treat. Drinks were little pricey. Total meal came to €159 b4 tip. So its for special occasions and it was.

Three of us ate here last night, having the Taste of Ireland menu. Overall, a very pleasant experience: wonderful suroundings and very good staff but unfortuately the food was a little bit of a let down. The starters were fantastic and I hoped the standard would continue for the rest of the meal. However, the mains (for all of us) were slightly dissapointing. Nothing wrong with them but very ordinary. The dessert wasn't much better but in this case it had too much going on (Rhubard, biscuit, chocolate, jelly, sorbet), although the cheeseboard was good. Not sure I'd return to be honest, as there are many other better places to eat in the city. The main thing this place has going for it are the views and the countryside.

THE place to go for a special treat! I had booked Gordon Ramsay for my boyfriends birthday and was really looking forward to it, and after a fantastic dining experience was so happy I did! My partner and I arrived to the restaurant - dimily lit with beautifully laid tables and a stunning view onto the wicklow mountains. We were warmly greeted by the staff and decided to choose the 4 course chef surprise (really 7 courses) for 80 euro. The wine list as to be expected is expensive - they do have a house Chote Du Rhone red on the menu at 28 euro which we sampled and was fantastic, and glasses of wine/prosecco starting at 7/8/9 euro so there are some cheaper options if you are looking to save on the drinks side. And now the food, it was absolutely fantastic. For our surpise menu we had a carrot/ginger soup taster which was just delicious, then seafood risotto, with lobster, crab and mussles which was very tasty, that was followed by third starter - pork belly which just simply divine. We then had venison for main accompanied by potatos and green peas - this was good, nice and tender. It was followed by a dessert taster, ginger and rhubarb with lots of cream, that was ok, the dish was a bit overloaded with cream but still fine. Then a second dessert of cheese cake which lovely, followed by delicious petit fois and fantastic coffee. At the very end we also got a small piece of cake with a happy birthday message for my bf so that was a really nice touch. Two glasses of prosecco, 1 bottle of red, 2 bottles of water, 2 espressos and a 4 course surpise chef menu came to 229 before tip, i thought for an amazing dining experience, in a beautiful setting with fantastic service, it was definitely worth it, i will be back!

You know when you're really looking forward to a meal and partly because of this you get let down? Well this was not the case here. I've eaten in 3 other of the Gordon Ramsay restaurants in the UK and so had a decent idea of the standard and was not let down at all. We went for the 7 course surprise prestige menu, which is really 8 as there are canapes! The specifically ask is there any food we don't like & or really like and then custom make our menu. Each course was amazing and often foods I would not have normally ordered so it allowed me to try new foods. In relation to the service it was fantastic. My friend was left handed & they noted it and started changing her cutlery placement. Our final dessert was not out favourite it was fruit & gingerbread - which we had not said we were not into - but they quietly noted that and then brought us an additional dessert. Course number 9, for no additional charge which we squeezed in! By the time the petit fours and tea/coffee came around we needed to be rolled out back to our room! The wine list was good - started at 35 a bottle and went up so you could keep that side inexpensive enought - though when eating that kinda food you like to get something decent so we got a sancerre for 60 but only needed the 1 as we were so stuffed! The only thing that was hard was the price at 130, thought it was officially 7 courses etc I do think that especially in this economic climate they could lower this to even 100-110 - the mill at the village at lyons had a simular 8 course tasting menut last year and it was 80 - so I am allowing for the location & the name witht he additional cost up to 110. All in all a lovely night and i would highly recommend the restaurant and this tasting menu - just avoid the bread - you'll need the tummy space!!

Took the Gordon Ramsey Dinner Package and had the Tasting Menu. The waiter was good enough to allow some of us to go for vegetarian rather than the meat/fish options. The food was absolutely delicious - seven formal courses but ten if you include the canapes and after dinner chocolates. Service was wonderful and the breakfast the next morning was spoiled only by the fact that it took place less than 11 hours after the sumptuous dinner. Overall - stunning value. Wonderful location and a great way to enjoy a special night away!

All I can say is the food was fab, the service top class and I would go back again in a heartbeat! Had a lovely dinner here last wednesday night. The Pressed foie gras with Waldorf salad and spiced bread to start were mouth watering and Sea bream with confît leeks and cauliflower velouté was brilliantly cooked. Top class dessert. Overall the food was fabulous, restaurant was quiet and relaxed and I will definitely be visiting again.

hotel was absolutely gorgeous in wood land setting , hotel staff very curtious . Complimentary car brilliant idea trvelled in Audi A8 . And then the Finale to eat in Gordon Ramsays , what can I say it was very disappointing . Girlfriend had red pepper risotto to start dreadful rice grainy you expect so much . I had pork belly it was ok to say the least , mains was Conemara lamb if you could find it , must have ran .. I had sea bream and king scallop was just about warm. The wine was expensive but we were there to spoil ourselves on my birthday. The breakfast although it was plentiful the fry was tepid aswell dreadful experience from culinary point of view. Gordon, you want to look after your own kitchen.

We did the Gordon Ramsay experience, you get one night stay dinner and breakfast, we had lunch in the lounge of the hotel and it wasn’t up to any standard not what you would expect from a five star hotel, but that’s another review. The room here is not much it seems a bit character less, but one good thing plenty of space around you. The night we where there the restaurant was full, I don’t think we had the best server on the night the table beside us was getting better info on the dishes coming out and on the menu items. We choose from the ala carte menu, a starter and main course, but extras you get are very good. Canapés followed by an amuse bouche, starter, main course, pre dessert, dessert, petit fours (a dessert in its self) to finish coffee. I won’t go into everything because it could go on but all the courses where very good. I really doubt Gordon himself has been here since opening, but the chefs here do know how to cook. I can only speak from our experience if we could afford it we would go back more often.

I had dinner here with my wife last night for a wedding anniversary treat we had a wonderful evening. The room has lovely views of the Sugar Loaf and surrounding area. There was a good mix of hotel guests and diners, with a nice relaxed, chatty atmosphere all night. We had the 'Prestige' menu, which is a 7 course taster menu. This is a great way to sample a large part of what is available on the a la carte menu. Each course was expertly served with an explanation of everything on the plate. The food itself was amazing, from how it looked to how you could taste each individual flavour and how those flavours all combined to make up the overall dish. Nothing was too overpowering, everything was beautiful on its own and complimented the other flavours as well. At €95 each I thought was great value, given that some of the starters were individually priced at €25. The service was 5 stars in a friendly, personal way. If you are looking for something special, and have a few quid to spare, I recommend you try what Gordon Ramsay has to offer.

1st class service and food but no atmosphere. It was a Friday night and there were only 12 other guests, music was low, you could have heard a pin drop. However, the food was exceptional. King crab was moist and flavoursome and the lobster ravoli was excellent. John Dory and Monkfist were perfectly cooked and the accompanying veg were delicious. The cheesy potato was tasty but the consistency was very strange. We had a Chablis for €55. Deserts were lovely too (cheesecake and pear william) and the pre-desert a very clever take on carrot cake. The petit fours were devine. Overall our meal came to €250.00.

Service was excellent. Wine list, fairly extensive but very pricey: not much below €80. I had the red mullet and veal. The mullet was delicious and the bouillabaisse base was fantastic. My veal was a little overwhelmed by the sauce, ham and mushroooms but the broad beans were a lovely touch. My husband had the lobster to start - "nice" was the verdict. He felt his halibut was slightly overcooked but didn't make any complaint. The sides of mange tout and green beans were beautifully cooked - fresh and tender. The cheesy potato thing was tasty too. Deserts were grand. Herbal tea selection was a little disappointing. They were great about my gluten-free needs, I must say which made the experience a very relaxing one for me. An enjoyable evening all round.

How can the quality of a restaurant of this calibre change so dramatically in a few weeks. I last reviewed Gordon Ramsay's when I dined here on Valentines Day. I loved it so much my family decided to take me here for Mothers Day. I am still flabbergast at the poor quality of food we were served compared to our previous experience. The starters and main dishes were like something served up in a 2 or 3 star hotel. The quality and presentation of the food was appalling. When we were asked if we enjoyed our meal we all said how disappointed we were with it and were then told that the chef would be informed. No other action was taken by the restaurant. We will not be going back.

Dined here for the first time with my wife last Friday night as a belated Valentine's meal of sorts. I had adopted a slightly cynical view of this enterprise viewing it as somewhat of an marketing/endorsement exercise but, on the whole, the experience was very, very good. The only significant letdown was the room itself - lacking something special to distinguish itself from any other "so so" hotel dining room. Mind you, it was dark outside and hence no views acoss the valley to the Sugar Loaf! Service was faultless, and was conducted at just the right side of leisurely to contribute to relaxed and enjoyable 2.5 hours in total. An excellent amuse bouche of celeriac soup with a smoked salmon foam preceded our starters of pressed foie gras (him) and lobster and prawn ravioli (her). Both were exquisite. Mains of canon of lamb and turbot were next. My lamb was superb, whilst the only food related issue of the night surrounded the turbot which, according to herself, was slightly overcooked and dry. We both chose cheese plates for dessert, which were a joy - due to the range available but primarily down to the obvious knowledge, passion, and openness demonstrated by the waiter - a real plus point in my view! Tea/coffee and marvellous petit fours rounded off the night. It is hard to find value on the wine list - however the Chateau Laforge St Emilion Grand Cru recommended by the Sommelier at €90 proved well up to the task. Despite my initial cynicism, I was won over on Friday night and will be back.

My boyfriend and I decided to come here for lunch on Valentine's Day because we wanted to experience a Gordon Ramsay restaurant for ourselves, but without the hefty price tags of dinner. We enjoyed it immensely, from the amuse bouche to the petit fours! All of it was new to us, but we found that the staff were lovely and attentive without being overbearing. It was definitely an experience and one I'd love to have again!

Credit crunch?! What credit crunch!? What a location! I have been to a couple of the bauld Gordo's joints and this is certainly the most stunningly located. Not the best cooking, when compared to Royal Hospital Road or Claridges but not too shabby. This restaurant has without a shadow of a doubt the finest wine list in the country bar none. I have not come across a more thoughtfully laid out and broad list in a very long time. Its not cheap but then it was never going to be. And as they say, if you have to ask, you probably cant afford it. I took 'er indoors out for a celebratory nosh up. After a pleasant VAT and a supersonic (Gin & tonic) in the faux rubadub, we found our way to the restaurant where we were greeted by a cohort of staff. Im sure they all knew what their roles were.. I didn't. The service was as you should expect, flawless. The sommelier, a scouser funnily enough, bent over backwards to help with the list and his recommendations were spot on. The young french waiter was very funny, probably a bit too funny for what some might consider a 'stuffy' restaurant. The food was generally quite good however I would say that the cheese board was trying a bit too hard. If you cant deliver top quality cheese in top quality condition for that price it might be wiser to stick to local cheeses. I would have been much happier with some well conditioned Irish cheese than the poor quality imported gear. The trouble n' strife went for a chocolate dessert and it came in about 3 seperate courses. Stunning, but a bit OTT. In summary GR@RC is good. Its not great weighing up all the factors but worth a visit for the wines alone. You will not get better in Ireland.

Large spacious dining room with beautiful view, myself and other half were seated by window for Lunch €35 for 2 courses and €45 for 3 courses. She ordered crab and baby tomatoes, she actually got crab mayonnaise salmon avocado and salmon caviar , it was delicious , but it was a strange mistake to make I had pea soup with ham shank ravioli, this was very disappointing, totally lacking in seasoning. For her main course was cep risotto with parmesan shavings which she loved. I had sea Bream with colcannon and cep sauce, fish was perfect sauce was very watery and tasteless I thought. Herself had the vanilla cheese cake with mango sorbet which was really delicious, I finished with lovely coffee and petit fours. Bill with a glass of Shiraz came to €97.50. Service was efficient, but were several mistakes which one would not expect it this type of establishment, no cutlery for deserts, no milk for coffee and then there was her starter. Over all I was disappointed not only with the food but there was an overwhelming sense of formality in the restaurant, there was no flow about the place. Here gets 7, sorry Gordon

I really enjoyed my experience in this restaurant. We enjoyed the prestige tasting menu that really gave us a feel for the place. Highlights included the salnon and lobster ravioli, the beautifully cooked sea bass, the lamb and the petit fours. They also gave us a cake for our anniversary which was a really nice touch. The service was excellent but without the stuffiness of other restaurants of this calibre. I had a great time but I do feel the price is a little on the high side. Go for a very special occassion!

It's far from this I was reared but I found myself dining here, due to a twist of fate.I was not sure if I should have a starter as I wanted to keep plenty of room for the main course. I decided to have salmon, the portion was miniscule, no fear of being too full. For mains I had partridge, which was nice but no nicer than I've had elsewhere. Companion had scallops (three) for starters which were tasty, for main she had lamb which she enjoyed. For dessert we had cheesecake and a chocolate dessert. In my opinion I think we are paying way over the odds just to say we ate at Gordon Ramsay's. To be honest I was expecting more.

Well i wouldnt say it was absolutly perfect but.. Food tasted like ive never taste before and i mean it in a good way, first time i found something like beef cheeks in a menu and they were actualy amazing, same with rissoto with truffle and chocolate fondant, as a whole experience really good. I thought that we would be hungry after it due to the small portions but there were so many extra courses, so we were quite full! It is expensive, 5.50 for small late! Over all we paid €200 for one starter, 2 mains and 2 desserts, one wine and one coffee!! But it is a once off thing..

Was really looking forward to going to one of Gordon Ramsay restaurant. On Gordon’s shows he is always saying to simplify the menu. I don’t think Gordon had much say in this menu as it is very complex & hard to read. I had the risotto (lovely) for starter & duck (greasy) for main. My boyfriend received the wrong starter but he said nothing, he really enjoyed his main which was beef. The service is impeccable but value for money is really out the window.

Went to Gordon Ramsey at Powerscourt Setting 7.5/10 (overly opulent odd modern interpretation of neoclassical - not Gordon's fault) Bread 8/10 (plenty of it and they were more than generous - nice - but I wasn't over impressed, however my companions were) "amuse-bouche" #1 8/10 (carrot and coriander) Starter (duck ravioli tasted great - thought could have been hotter - except for issue below) 8/10 Water menu 2/10 (there were two options) Amusing surprise 0/10 (eyelash in the ravioli) Main course 7/10 (chicken exceptional, but not hot enough - which was a recurring theme and portions a bit small - perhaps they should offer side orders too?) Dessert 8/10 (my sorbet and ice cream was a letdown - the ice-cream was not great, but companions' sorbets and cheesecakes were amazing) After dinner "amuse-bouche"#2 - 8/10 (wasn't gone on it but it was technically very clever) Sweets at bill 10/10 - truly exceptional - one like a little breadcake, another like searingly cold compote in a freezing white chocolate shell and a mint & ?kiwi tiny burger Service 8/10 pleasant, friendly, helpful and never made you feel uncomfortable - but it was a little odd to have about 4-5 different people serving you. Pieces of advice for them: Heat the plates better - I don't know whether it is culinary heresy (- that hot plates might cook the food?) - but the food needs to arrive hot - hot - hot Pricing - 45 euro for 2 course or 50 euro for 3 course is fine, but one companion had a la carte and the extra for dessert (the same cheesecake) wasn't simply 5 euro - I think it was 14 euro Would I go back – Yep – The hair in the ravioli is a simple accidental effect of humans in a kitchen. Interesting and technically exceptional and I felt comfortable, but some gross basic errors.

Enjoyed our visit here yesterday and chose the lunch set menu which is E40 for 3 courses including tea/coffee. We thought this was very good value although there was not much to choose from ( 1 meat, 1 fish and 1 veg choice for each course). No complaints about portion sizes, in fact they were larger than I would've imagined. Staff were very attentive as expected. We really enjoyed every course and would like to think we would be back to try the a la carte menu (perhaps when someone else is paying!) Bill came to about E165 for 3 of us, including 2 Bellinis at nearly 20 euros each, and bottle of water.

I stayed at the Ritz Cartlon with my partner last Sunday (3/8/2008) and we booked dinner in Gordon Ramsay's restaurant for 8.30pm. The hotel was absolutely beautiful, the room was outstanding with a huge bed, fab baloncy with sun loungers and a spotless white marble bathroom to die for. We went down to the Sugar Loaf lounge for a predinner drink where we had 2 champagne bellinis which were 19 euro each, a bit expensive but worth it. We then went down to the restaurant and this is where it all went wrong. There were no tables for two, all tables catered for at least 4 people so I seemed to be miles away from my partner. After taking a while to decide on which course to go for (the tasting menu or the a la carte) much to the annoyance of our waitresss, we decided on the a la carte. We got the bread sticks with the cream cheese and the foie gras first which were very nice. We then got the lobster ravoli and the scallops, my 3 scallops were lovely but were accompanied by a cold sorbet which I found very strange. The ravoli was lovely but TINY. Next came the beef and the halibut, the beef consisted of two pieces, a tiny amount of sauce, about 4 button mushrooms and rocket leaves which was absolutely appalling at 49 euro. My halibut was overcooked but was accompanied by king crab which was nice but again very small. Next was the cheese board, which in fairness was the nicest part of the meal but we had to ask for more cheese as the waitress was only willing to give out 4 tiny portions. I got the chocolate cylinder with ice cream, it did look fabulous but have definitely tasted nicer desserts. We were so disappointed with the whole night, the food was OK but we were still hungry at the end of the night. The staff were not over friendly and couldnt get over the fact that we wanted a 15 minute delay between courses. Do not go to the restaurant, its the biggest rip off ever

Had a visit here last week for a family birthday. Food was excellent and service was very attentive with loads of staff. Atmosphere was lacking however and the prices are way over the top but ok for a special occasion. Crab and lobster ravioli is fab!!!

A wonderful place for a lazy weekend lunch. The food was excellent and the service was very attentive and friendly apart from the sommelier who was very distracted and disinterested. The food was perfectly cooked and well presented, the scallops being the only dish that disappointed. The only real down side is the mark-up on the wine, €62 for a very average bottle of Sancerre is very steep even for a 5 star hotel!

Quite simply the best meal I have ever had in Ireland. Spent the weekend in the Ritz and had dinner in GR on Saturday night. when we went in to the restaurant they couldn't seem to find our booking and put us sitting at the bar for a few minutes. They then came back and told us they had found it and led us to our table. Unfortunately I think we got one of the worst tables in the restaurant - right at the entrance to the kitchen. However this was a minor irritant as the food was amazing. We went for the prestige menu @ €90 per head. First up were two little glasses - one filled with a foie gras mousse and the other with a creamy cheese (i think ricotta?) infused with tuffle oil. These were served with lovely filo pastry sticks. Then we had the amuse bouche - a lovely cup of Watermelon gaspacho. The breads were excellent - especially the smoked bacon croissants. We still hadn't started the prestige menu yet... First starter: Fois Gras, Almond cake and roasted fig - worked wonderfully together Second starter: Amazing scallop served with an olive oil sorbet, cucumber with a foam (can't remember flavour),small spoon of caviar. Best starter !! Third starter: Confit of King crab with a fennel and a fennel foam Mains: Medium rare duck served with cherries, white radish, pea puree and a beautiful sweet smopky sauce Pre desert: Apple jelly with a rich chocolate mousse - lovely contrasts in taste and texture Desert: Grand Marnier parfait with bitter dark chcoloate and blood red orange sorbet - have to admit I wasn't able to finish it !! This place is a michelin star in the waiting - get there before they put the prices up when they get the star

On our second visit here in two months, we found the food to be of quite high quality, though I'd avoid the rather unpleasant veal main again. Size isn't everything, but the portions were very small, particularly as vegetables are not provided but for some small token (e.g. a potato cake). The waiting staff are almost out of control with their constant questioning of 'did you enjoy that?' - a dozen times throughout the whole meal (during the main course, we were asked TWICE, interrupting our conversation) - and with their constant topping up of our water, seemingly after every sip. Add a few veggies, back off from the constant interruptions, and then this place would be a contender for one of the best in Ireland.

The other half and myself were lucky enough to eat here on Sunday evening. Couldn't fault it at all. I'd read some mixed reviews here and after the meal I couldn't figure out what people were complaining about. I had scallops to start, she had crab. Rack of lamb for mains and she had beef fillet. We shared the apple tart tatin for dessert - (was informed by the missus during dessert that the apple tart was the nicest thing she's ever tasted!) The waiter cut this at the table for us and while serving told us that it was Gordon Ramsay's signature dessert, IT IS AMAZING. The appetisers/bread, and pre-dessert/sorbet were also lovely, and nice touches as they arrive when you're not expecting them. The only thing that neither of us were fussy about was the amuse bouche - a cold soup which tasted a little too oily, but that's just to say it wasn't to our taste. Not being wine drinkers, we didn't look at the wine list. We had water with most of the meal, and I had one beer towards the end. Having not seen the drinks menu I wasn't sure what sort of reaction I'd be met with asking for a pint... but the waiter simply got it for me with no dirty looks or snooty-ness!! The staff are amazing here, they are obvioulsy highly trained and it shows. They know about every part of the dish they are serving you and will explain it to you while serving. The waiters that served us were also great craic, and stayed to chat to us between courses, really made you feel comfortable and more at home. We were also served the chocolates & infusions, even though we said we didn't want any coffee etc after the meal. We noticed that these weren't served to everyone, but some of the other guests weren't exactly chatty with the waiters so maybe this is why we were given extra. I could go on and on all day about this place. In a word, Amazing.

Two of us went for dinner here last night. It was an amazing experience! The staff are second to none, both in attentiveness and knowledge. We started choosing the wine and we were brought little pots of foie gras and an espresso mousse. Wonderful! A little cup of celeriac soup followed. The bread basked was gorgeous and refilled when we were done. We had chosen from the a la carte menu. For started I had the roast crab and he had the lobster ravoli. Both were delicious. The checquerboard crab looked amazing and the one ravoli with lobster and salmon came with a delicious sauce. Whenever the food comes out, one waiter puts it on the table while another describes in perfect detail what it is. After the starter followed the main. I went for the halibut and he had the veal. I wouldnt be a fan of veal but it was delicious. My halibut was perfect. The presentation of all these meals is unbelievable and it all adds to the experience. The cheese trolley came then and the girl was very knowledgeable about each one and gave us a wonderful selection. We barely had room for dessert but we took up the challenge. My pear cheesecake was gorgeous, but at that stage the sorbet would have been enough. His chocolate fondant was incredible. So rich it was amazing! The whole night was wonderful. We were looked after like royalty. The staff were always there but we never felt crowded. I would recommend anyone to take a trip out here and just indulge yourself. you will not be sorry.

I was dinning last night at Gordon's restaurant, it was absolutly fabulous, the warm welcome from my fantastic German waitress is still in my heart, our french sommelier was very charming and choose the matching wine throughout our menue. The prestigemenue is a good selection of chefs highlights and was cooked perfectly. It is not just a dinner, you get in Gordon Ramsay, it is the whole experience wich makes it so special. MICHELIN GUIDE don't search any more the next star and take a cab to powerscourt

I ate here on Sunday night with a group 6 friends - The table we were seated at was right by the door which wasn't great, there wasn't much of an atmosphere..but the service was excellent. Food was top class - I had the truffle risotto & beef fillet, both excellent.. the chocolate fondant was to die for! Wine list is very extensive and suits all tastes. Cheese board was excellent as were the after dinner drinks..Not value for money, but lovely for a special occasion..

We ate here on Saturday night and were not that impressed. The food was very good, particularly the apple tarte tatin (the best I've ever tasted). They had a veggie menu which was very welcome, though the menu wasn't that enticing. I had a lovely salad of beetroot, goats cheese and red orange sorbet, followed by gnocchi with leeks (nice but a bit dull). My partner's food (non-veggie) looked much more interesting and he really enjoyed it. However the layout of the restaurant is very strange. We were put at a table just inside the door and it was like sitting in the hotel lobby really -- a constant stream of staff behind us which made the evening very unrelaxing. So not the place to come for a romantic evening (although the tables by the window wouldn't have had the same problem). Wouldn't go back.

My boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary at Gordon Ramsey's yesterday afternoon. It was a perfect day. The weather was perfect so we had some champagne before lunch out on the terrace. The views of the sugarloaf and surrounding woods were stunning. The Ritz Carlton is set in a stunning location (although my boyfriend found the hotel itself reminiscent of Nazi architecture; grand, white and oppressive) The staff were so pleasant and helpful our moods were instantly lifted. We chose from the lunch menu (reasonable at 30 euros for 2 courses considering you get a basket of yummy bread and an amuse bouche) The wine list was like an enormous photo album. We chose a rose montepulciano. I had herb crusted goatscheese with walnuts and apple sorbet followed by a deliciously crispy sea bream with pak choy and artichokes....beautifully cooked. Boyf had the veal followed by ravioli, asparagus and quail eggs. We shared a pear and biscotti cheesecake with blackcurrant sorbet...heavenly and finished with coffee and chocolates. The enitre bill came to 170 with a 10% tip (which is great if you consider that the 2 glasses of champagne came to 38 euros...quite steep) I would highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion or if money is no option. Word of caution though, if you are relying on a bus to get you there, take into account that the 44 bus to enniskerry is a rarely spotted, endangered creature, especially on sundays.

We spent a night here in the Ritz Carlton (not to be missed) and had booked in at this restaurant and it was simply divine ones of the best meals I have had to date. As it ws my 30th we pushed the boat out my husband had the lobseter raviolli and I had the poached frogs legs with snail cavier both were delicious for very different reasons. Mains I went for the fillet of beef and husband went for the sea bass again both delicious and to end we both had the chocoloate fondue which is not to be missed DIVINE. We were then given a tour of the kitchen as we were the last to leave whihc is spotless and you can actaully book a table inside it to view the whole goings on if you wish - I must admit i would go for this but only with the Main Man there. The whole atmosphere and level of service was excellant it is expensive but I think well worth it just have to come up with an excuse to go again!

Myself and partner went here for a special occassion last month. We did go on a Sunday, but the place was busier than expected. There are mixed reviews about this place and I think this has to do with the consistency of the place, not its potential. We got a good night. The attention to detail I found to be very high. We were brought to our excellent seats & then the waitress came to welcome us. She referred to me by my name on several ocassions, which I thought was nice. There is a pretty formal atmosphere with the staff, until you initiate the breakdown of this formality, it remains. So when we asked our waitress some questions and recommendations she became more relaxed. There was one person, who very patrionisingly delivered the entrees and proceeded to tell us what each of the pieces of cutlery were for. He interupted us several times, so that we didn't like. However, to the food. Firstly, we had 2 courses before the starter. Both were very nice (the paté was excellent). We both had lobster ravioli. I was not expecting one giant piece, but the flavour and quantity of lobster was excellent. For the main, she had seabass while I opted for the beef. The seabass was the better choice and was very tasty. I think it is just the cut of the beef, but I had asked for it medium (with this cut, probably should have went for rare) and as a consequence, it was a little dry. However, the truffle, mushroom and juice sauce more than made up for it. I think, however, I'll go for the seabass next time. It just looked prettier as well as tasting great. Dessert was great too. Apple tart is my favourite anyway, so I may be biased. It was brought to our table and cut in front of you. Mr. Ramsay uses this little trick often, but it was nice. The portion for both of us was huge, and taking into account the starter and main, plus the 3 little extras, we were stuffed. It is expensive, but on this occasion, well worth it.

I have to say, I do not agree with some of these reports - I thought this place was great. I had the scallop starter and although we only got one scallop, there was enough on the plate. It was exqisite! I got the sea bass for main course, which I liked, but I tried the john dory and much more prefered it. We all got the carmalised apple tart tatin for main course, which was the nicest thing I ever had the pleasure of tasting. The amuse bouche, breads and pre-desserts were all just as wonderful - the parmesan bread is a must if you go! I also stayed the night and was impressed with the breakfast. The oatmeal pancakes were divine and there was a wide selection available. Overall, the food was superb. All of the staff were extremely pleasant, and although pricey, I would recommend you try this place at some stage.

Enjoyed one of the most fantastic meals in quite some time. It was back a couple of weeks ago and only now I am gettting to note it. We were a perty of three for lunch and ordered from the a la carte menu. Everything from start to finish was superb. Beautifully presented and tasting as you would expect - amazing. The highlight for me was the foie gras terrine....just incredible flavours! Service was great and very professional. My only gripe was that I asked for a glass of house red Burgundy and was charged €18! This was then served in a white wine glass! At this outrageous price I would expect the correct glass! Other than that - great. Looking forward to returning where I will be dining at the Chefs Table in the kitchen. Should be great fun especially if its busy watching the chef throw a wobbly! :)

Must admit that I was a little unimpressed with Mr Ramsay's resturant in Powerscourt. Had the lobster starter, which is a signature dish & this was lovely. Substantial volume of lobster within the ravioli. The veal mains was INCREDIBLY fatty, I was quite suprised, as the menu did not specify the cut and I never dreamt that it would be belly. There was more fat than meat & I was sickened at the heap of white fat that I pushed aside. This nausea was heightened by the price tag of E46 for the lard-acious experience! Dessert of pear & amoretti cheesecake was out of this world! I could have eaten it forever. Amuse bouches, pre dessert & petit fours were nice touches & very tasty. The foie gras was beautiful. The waiting staff were very nice & chatty, however there was little atmosphere in the place. Also, we were phoned twice in the week previously to confirm the booking - even thought the place was half empty when we dined there! I can understand the mixed reviews this place is getting. Would return to give the place another chance but for the moment I don't believe the standard of dining is worthy of such money.

We ate here over the weekend and it was absolutely fantastic. I can't believe all the negative problems and I would have to put them down to teething problems. We had the prestige menu and every bite was just gorgeous and the main, the beef, was outstanding. We also got a bottle of wine for under €50 (one we wanted - we weren't just being cheap!!) so €275 including service for a meal of this quality which took well over 3 hours was well worth it. plus, they asked if we wanted more wine when we had finished our desserts but we chose to leave and go back to the room because we were so stuffed. We will most definitely be back again for a special occasion. The restaurant was incredibly busy for a Sunday and the service was impeccable. I could not fault this and will be recommending it. I hope that everyone else has the same good experience because I don't understand the negative reviews below.

My boyfriend treated me to dinner for my birthday back in December and I have to say it was the best dining experience I’ve had in a long time! I was worried after reading some of the less than flattering reviews it had received after it opened, but I can only say they must have pulled their socks up because from beginning to end it was fantastic. We ordered starters, mains and a dessert to share but also were brought an amuse bouche, pre dessert and petits fours at the end of our meal, all complimentary! We're not sure if this is standard practice but it meant we left thoroughly stuffed (and to think we even contemplated having a snack before we went in case portion sizes were too small!) The portions sizes were generous and would have left us feeling nicely full without all the extras. Lovely bread basket too to accompany the meal as well as 2 nice glasses of white wine. Highlights were the Dublin bay prawns and the pear and amoretti cheesecake with blackcurrant sorbet dessert, personalised for my birthday! Impeccable service will definitely be returning!

Highly recommended, excellent food and service. You pay a premium but you certainly get what you pay for in this instance - will definitely return. Could eat the roast crab starter all day long!

I was very disappointed when I visited Gordon Ramsay's. Firstly, I don't think it's HIS restaurant he's only there a couple of times a year,if that, because if he was there, it WOULD be 5 star quality. On arrival, as it was our first time there we weren't sure if we were in the right place but we were met by a rather sarcastic & rude manager who told us "obviously we were in the right place" as he pointed to a small plaque on the wall! Our waiter told us he was French but when spoken to in French he didn't seem to understand what my friend was saying. His service left as lot to be desired. The food was delicious however we spent €300 per person and I don't think the standard of the food or the restaurant warranted such a substantial amount. I have been to Petra's and Claridges in London and can't praise them enough as they were faultless...... Maybe Gordon needs to spend some more time in his Irish venture!!!!!!

Was really great. Went for Christmas party so twas a set menu of 8 courses! Foie gras and pheasant were the best parts. Took 4 hrs to eat everything! We were in a function room, so not much atmosphere. No music or anything.

I visited powerscourt last Friday night and was pleasently surprised with what a wonderful meal we had given the divergence in reviews being handed down since it opened. Firstly, the staff were more than helpful - ever so courteous and obliging. I would almost say their attention to detail was taken to the extreme. I agree with what was said before that both the amuse bouche and the petit fours were somewhat uninspired. However both the lobster ravioli and the venison were fabulous. I felt the portions were far bigger than other restaurants of the same calibre, and the flavours were just delicious. The chocolate fondant for dessert was rather heavy and overpowering however I still enjoyed it. There was undoubtedly a large dent in the credit card after wine and cocktails were included but it was all worth the experience.

A big let down. Maybe our expectation levels were too high, Appetiser & Amuse bouche & Petit fours were less than ordinary. One scallop for the starter I mean come on! Everything else not worth mentioning bar the foie gras with an inspired warm white chocolte brioche & the halibut with smoked salmon while good was a throwback to the early 1990's and was unexpected for a restaurant which projects itself as 1/2 star michelin. Major problems trying to make the booking in the first place suceeded after 2 weeks and numerous phone calls although I believe hotel reception now looks after bookings. Service is chilly in the extreme and nothing was checked as though they felt it didn't need to be, interesting!

I was lucky enough to eat in Gordon Ramsay's the first week it had opened. We were staying in the hotel on the Saturday night & they managed to "squeeze" us in on the Sunday evening. The funny thing was that when we arrived for our table at 8pm there were only a handful of other tables occupied, infact most tables were empty! We had the Tasting Menu for €100 a head. The food was fantastic, my personal favourite was the Lobster Ravioli while my partner enjoyed the Pork Belly & Scallop best. The staff were more than helpful & friendly & explained each dish as they presented it to the table, however the restaurant itself lacks atmosphere. I'm glad I've been but wont be rushing back unless someone else is paying the bill!

I had dinner at the restaurant on Saturday and I was quite surprised at the lay out of the restaurant. The air about it was somewhat pretentious, but I guess that would be expected once you had a glance at the prices on the cocktails menu. Upon arriving I ordered a Bombay Sapphire and Tonic which was a ridiculous €15.00. While sitting in the bar area we were served a miniscule little soup concoction that I could have done without. We were then taken to our table where I was handed a menu, which displayed starters on the left and mains on the right. The starters were in the median price range of €22-€25 and the mains in the high €40 price range. There was an option to do the prestige menu which was a taster menu for €100.00 pp. Two of the couples at our table wanted to do the prestige menu, but my fiancé and I were not interested. The first and only main issue that we encountered was during the ordering stage. It is not mentioned to you that the prestige menu must be served per table. The only person at our table to have a menu specifying this was me. I had a word with the lovely girl serving us and she improvised and allowed me a fish option for my main instead of the meat option originally laid out for the prestige menu. The prestige menu allotted you three starters, small but reasonable as you were getting three with the option. The main I ordered was the Turbot, Ramsay’s signature we were told. The turbot was tasty, but no one told me that the main was going to be the same size as one of my starter samples. It was a disgrace my main was about the same size as the lobster ravioli that I received earlier. Dessert was superb example of a creamy vanilla panna cotta! Overall the bill came to €650.00 for 4 including a few bottles of wine. I have to say the food tasty, the prices ridiculous, the staff…….were very French, but pleasant. In the end, I can say I came, I eat, but I sure will not be coming back any time soon. Gordon where’s the rest of my turbot??? Or did I miss the word petit in front.
