We've eaten many times at The Ashford Oriental over the years that's it's been here. One can always depend on the high quality Chinese food they offer but at a price, soups at €5, other starters at €7.50 and mains at €15 and up. My family and I ate here on Saturday night and we were surprised at how quiet the restaurant was. It's a specious well decorated place with a massive fish-tank full of huge fish my two girls love. They both had won ton soup to start with which was good, as usual I pinched one of the won tons and it was an excellent prawn pork combination. My wife's coriander prawns were superb, crispy and delicious but my crab meat and sweetcorn soup was disappointing, full of mock crab-meat sticks - avoid. The girls ordered their usual crispy aromatic duck and it was excellent, one of the best I've eaten in Ireland. The crispy shredded chicken was a huge portion and very well done. We also had stir fried lamb which came with an interesting sauce which I've never tasted before. It was good but different. For desert the kids shared a huge toffee pudding and ice cream which was very heavy but good and my wife had Lychee and Ice Cream. Service was good and all in all we had a good evening. I'd certainly recommend the Ashford Oriental as one of the better Chinese restaurants in the area.

Thai is my favourite food and I was delighted to see that Ashford Oriental serverd Thai food when my girlfriend suggested we pop in there for Sunday dinner. The restaurant had nice decor and it was a busy Sunday. My girlfriend ordered Sweet and Sour chicken or something similar and I have to say it tasted very good. I however make the mistake or ordering a Beef Red Curry. Now as an avid fan of Thai food I can assue you what was delivered to my table was nothing that resembled anything like a Red Curry and it was the worst dish I have ever ordered from any oriental establishment. There is nothing I like more than a red curry and this curry tasted sour and quiet strange and I couldn't eat it at all. I really cannot understand how anybody could brand what was in front of me as a red curry because it tasted nothing of the sort and the dish was terrible. Also I know I was wrong but I am not one to complain and I ended up eating my girlfriends leftover chicken dish. The food was not cheap either but the experience there of that awful red curry makes ensures that I will never order Thai food from a Chinese restaurant again. DO NOT TRY THE RED CURRY

I have dine here on an off over the years, to mixed reviews to be honest. Anyway decided to try agian last night and in fairnest it was at all bab, I'd go so far as to say I enjoyed it but only rank it a 5.5 out of 10. The look of the place is appealing with big fish aquarium at the enterance and nice authentic looking chinese decor. The food is fine, shared starter folowed by house special chow mein and kung po chicken, but I've had better. Nice bottle of white macon luny and coffees - reasoanable value at 75 euro.

I went here for a meal with my boyfriend recently. It is lovely for couples. Nice intimate setting. Decor inside is lovely. Gorgeous big aquarium and lovely chinese decor all around the restaurant. The food is nice although not amazing. I had the meat sung for starter which was gorgeous although the presentation wasn't very nice. Pineapple chicken saté for mains and I didn't eat very much. The chicken was very rubbery although my boyfriend had chicken curry and he said his was fine so it might have just been mine. Orange Sorbet for dessert and it was HEAVENLY! Service was very good!

I hadn't been to this restaurant for more than six months and I found the food as good as ever - the early bird remains excellent value for money. The staff are very attentive too. The restaurant is quite large and I would think it is equally suitable for groups wanting a pleasant night out or for couples having a quiet date.

I have eat here before & found it delicious so had arranged to meet some friends here who have not eaten here before. The restaurant is beautiful, we had no table booked, but on arrival there was only 2 other tables in use. We asked for a table for 4 for about 7.45, 15 min later as the other couple had not arrived. The waitress was a little put out & said she would have to ask was a table available. This restaurant is quite big. After much flicking through the book & a long chat were were told yes we could have a table in 15 min. All 4 of us arrived in (still only 2 tables in use) were seated. Starters were lovely, for mains myself & hubby ordered beef dishes. The beef was slightly sour so we did not finish, the other couple had chicken & duck which was nice. Nothing special. There was no desert & 3 beers. The bill came to €135. Might try it again but was put off with the beef & the attitude when we arrived. We left at 9.30 & only 5 tables were in use.

After a great night out I have to write about this fabulous gem. There were six of us , three ordered the set meal for 3, two of us ordered the set dinner for 2 and one went his own way. The amount of food was just totally mind blowing, the table was heaving! The set dinner for 4 would have been plenty for all of us! The meal was hot, freshly cooked and delicious. The restuarant was fairly busy but it didn't affect the fast, friendly service of the staff. I would certainly recommend this chinese...and will be back.

We were staying nearby at self catering accommodation and so treated ourselves to a night off!!! This place was not bad... having a week earlier eaten in a top London chinese restaurant (ken Lo's Memories of China, Belgravia) it was hard not to compare. They fared well with some well executed dishes. It was interesting to see locals all sticking to the formula of choosing their own dish and just eating that and also having it served on a plate with knife and fork. Our request for rice bowls and chopsticks was met with suprise!!! Starters were good, and then our aromatic crispy duck was a fine example. Often we find main courses are the area that let you down but on this occasion the double cooked szchaun pork was excellent. Overall found the place to be reasonable value by Irish standards and would certainly go back.

I ate here with my wife and brother a couple of weeks ago. My brother eats here quite often so I was expecting quite a lot. The restaurant itself is quite nice, clean and the staff and excellent. My brother ordered a Thai Green curry which was delicious. Wanting to try something different, myself and my wife ordered the set meal for 2. It was amazing how much food we actually got. There were 5 dishes of food spread across the table. Needless to say we boxed most of it and dropped it off at my delighted dads house, lol. Unfortunately tho, the dishes as part of the set meal were disappointing. Maybe it was because the green curry which I didn't have was so delicous, but none nof the 5 took my fancy so I kind of just nibbled at each.

Ashord Oriental is by far the best Chinese restaurant within Wicklow town/Ashford. If you live in Wicklow town it does mean driving to get there but the food is well worth the five minutes in the car. It can be quite expensive and gets very busy at weekends.... but if you want good quality Chinese food then this really is the best place around. One really annoying thing about this place is - the takeaway, although has the same name is not actually part of the same establishment... in other words it's not the same kitchen and not the same chef cooking the dishes. The take away is still nice but not a patch on the food you will get if you eat in.
