I ate here when i was passing one thursday evening. It was rather quiet and we sat at a table beside the stove. It has a wam and homely feel to it. The staff were good. I found it a little expensive though but there was no shortage of food on the plate!

3.5 Tyrrellspass Castle Restaurant 3.5 star review:
Went for a family lunch here last Sunday. I had been here a few times but not for a while. I had rang ahead to book but it didn't seem to matter. They were kind of offering first come first served seating arrangement. We were eventually seated in one of the back rooms which was very dark and lifeless. This could have been helped with drawing the curtains and turning on the music.
The lunch menu is the same one for years, it needs to be modernised and changed. I also find it is exspensive for the current market. The food was good lovely and fresh and piping hot. The service was quick and efficent too.

Ive ate a few times here from time to time but on this occasion i wasnt over inpressed. Going in the door there was people in the hall way entrance, there was people everywhere, kids running in and out making noise. Staff didnt seem to care.
Menu was very boring i taut, same old stuff on it. Honestly if you want to go out for a meal as a treat well theres def better places in the area.
very disappointing.

I organised a family lunch here for a birthday celebration, before calling to a day at the races in Kilbeggan.
The place was packed with Christenings, and various family and lunches.
Nonetheless, service was very quick. The food was delicious, portions were more than adequate. We had a lovely bottle of wine and all in all, the meal for 6 was great value for money.

The new M6 motorway between (west) Dublin and Galway city is brilliant: 196km in around 2 hours and within the legal limit. However where do you stop for a coffee, a sandwich or lunch en route? Well take the exit for Tyrrellspass, go through the village heading westwards and at the end on the righthand side is the Tyrrelspass Castle restaurant and coffee shop. I remember this as a pit stop on the old main road years and years ago, and it is still going strong. The offer ranges from scones, sandwiches, toasted sandwiches, soup of the day, various coffees and teas, through a variety of beers (and presumably spirits) to full-scale meals. These would generally be of the roast, potatoes and two veg and from the looks of the meals being consumed by other patrons they are to put it mildly substantial. Our experience was a toasted sandwich and soup of the day with (fresh) brown bread and cappuchinos. Service was good, staff are pleasant and helpful, the food arrived promptly (which is what you want for a pitstop), it was clean, well furnished and one cannot have any complaints. Fulfills its purpose: no pretentions to haute cusine, good basic food. Reasonable prices, plenty of parking. If you are driving westwards you then can choose between continuing on the old main road abnd getting back on the motorway at the eastern side of Kinnegad or retracing your 'steps' through Tyrrelspass back to the M6 junction you came off on. We did the former but in the interests of speed next time will probably do the latter. The coffee shop/restaurant will fulfill you basic needs without breaking the bank!

This is great place to get a satisfying dinner on the run. I usually have the salmon, which is plentiful, with potatoes and veg. Service is prompt but basic, mainly shcool gilrs and boys working part-time. Ticks all my boxes for lunch/dinner on the run. Hearty, healty, clean, quick, parking, and good value - what more could you ask for. It wouldn't be somewhere for a romantic dinner, or gathering with friends or family for a night out though.....in my opinion.

As a cheap and cheerful pit stop, it filled the gap and was fine. There really wasn't any atmosphere to speak of, the food seemed pre cooked, especially given how quick it arrived (which I suppose could be a good point but not when you consider it could only have been a reheat to be ready that fast). Portions were good.
It is not far off the moterway and as I said - for a pit stop - it is a good location, easy to find and better than fast food.
