Dined here on a Tuesday night and it was quite busy. Have been here before and wasn't impressed but returned as there is very little to choose from in Mullingar. The service was prompt but joyless. I had the caesar salad which was alright and my husband and son had pop corn chicken with satay sauce which was nothing special. For main course I had the burger which was solid, too big and lacked seasoning while my husband had the pork ribs which never saw a bit of seasoning until the were smothered in bbq sauce. You cannot add salt to ribs after the have been boiled and you cannot make up for this lack of seasoning by smoothering them in sauce. It was 3 years since my last visit and it will be another 3+ before I go back. This restaurant only suceeds because there is little competition

Good food for good value, although the menu hasn't changed much in years. Very poor service at times. Always rushed to get you out, to the point of taking your plates/glasses before you're finished.

We have visited here on quite a few occasions food always excellent - service not always with a smile - but good menu choices and a popular choice in Mullingar Really good Fillet Steak...

I recently got some takeaway from Oscars with my girlfriend and her family. The food was enjoyed by all. I had a caramelized onion and sweet chili pizza. It was tasty and filling. The others got veg pasta, baby back ribs and stir fried chicken. As always there were a lot of side dishes (salad and chips) included. Will definitely be going back to Oscars again.

This is a popular and BUSY restaurant but I really can't see what all the fuss is about. The food IS good and the service is efficient if slightly robotic and impersonal. I wouldn't take a date here either to be honest - the tables are on top of each other. Finally the prices are above and beyond what I would consider acceptable for this type of venue - especially in the current climate. This is Mullingar not Temple Bar.

My husband and I had our anniversary meal at Oscars. As usual the food is spot on. Have been here many times and could never fault the food. I had crunchy chicken strips in satay sauce, jumbo fried prawns with rice & sweet chilli sauce and mixed ice-creams for dessert. Fabulous. Am getting hungry just thinking about it....... Only complaint is that it is v pricey. With a bottle of wine included, meal for two, up on EUR 100.00

We rang to book our table at Oscars while en route and were told there were no tables until 2100hrs, this was unfortunate as it was only 1845 and we were nearly there! Took a chance on dropping in and hoping for the best and there was a table available. The service was very good, our waitress was helpful and informative. The atmosphere was great, a nice mood about the place. Food was good, my daughter absolutely loved her pizza. I would recommend that the restaurant improve their salad accompaniment. I feel that in most restaurants it is seen as acceptable to throw a few bits of whatever is lying around onto a plate and call it a 'salad'. Restaurants could take some tips from the American or Italian style in this regard, where salad is seen as a major part of the meal not an afterthought. Overall our experience was quite good apart from my above criticism and that fact that we felt the menu overpriced. Would return and perhaps my comments will have been acted upon!! (you never know!!)

As another reviewer has noted Oscar's is consistently average. This sense of averageness is heightened by the total inability to change the menu, ever, in as long as it has been in operation!! Also not highly recommended if you enjoy perusing a varied wine menu; it is only just possible to get an average bottle! Oscar's please change your menu's to reflect the fact that it is 2010 and people's tastes have evolved somewhat since you opened your doors in the 90's.

Oscars has been around for god knows how long and i have yet to be in there when it hasn't been full but it is by no means a top class restaurant, i would say everything about it is average but it is consistently average, the main problem is that the menu has not changed in a long number of years and there is not many other restaurants in the town that rival it so in a sense its safe enough to continue along without much change, some dishes are very nice but some dishes are borderline fast food quality, the staff are very friendly and the food is normally externally quick (apart from last time we were there where we waited 35 minutes for mains). Oscars will most certainly overwhelm anyone but it is a safe bet for a nice dinner. They could be cheaper but their early bird menu is reasonable.

We ate here while staying down in Mullingar for a few days, after it was recommended to us by a friend from Mullingar. I have to say it didn't disappoint. Food was lovely. Staff were very friendly and professional. The manager even came over to chat to us for a few minutes while we waited for our starters. The only thing I regret is that we didn't get to try any of the desserts which looked lovely, because we were all so full after our starters and main. The meal although not cheap, was very good value as we enjoyed it so much. If you are going to Oscars, I wuld recommend booking ahead. As although we went on a Wednesday evening, the place was packed and we had to book a table for an hours time. Although it was well worth the wait.
