One of the best restuarants I've been to in a long time. Could not fault the food, absolutely beautiful. Well worth a visit. A bit pricey but worth it for a treat.

Had the pleasure of dining in your restaurant last Sunday for lunch. From the minute we walked in the door we were made feel very welcome. We were quickly shown to a well laid out circular table. Suited both my wife, children and I perfectly. Our staters were amazing as were our main courses. All the desserts served had the WOW factor and left us longing for more. Tea's and coffees were served and we relaxed after a splendid meal. We have dined here on many occasions and also stayed in the townhouses. We would like to think that we are FOODIES and it is so unusual that we find such a fine restaurant that has impeccable service, unique food and great atmosphere. Looking forward to returning again very soon. Well worth a trip down from Cork.

Excellent, as it is generally. 3 of us ate lunch, two had pork, I had rib eye beef, greens, gourmet fries and a smoked paprika aoli. 70 euro for three at this level is good value. Staff, as ever, pleasant and professional in equal measure. When the Tannery is good it is excellent, and their off days are merely good.

We we given the dining room as there was a large goup of us, I cannot fault the service for food, the wine could have been kept flowing a little better. THe food was a shortened menu to accomodate our numbers. The lamb carpaccio while very tasty the overwhelming taste was parmesean, even the beans and broccoli got lost in the taste of the deepfried garlic, the lamb i think was lovely, pity i couldn't taste it. The crab bruleè has been going on here for a very long time indeed, and if it's not broke why fix it? well, it's unfortunate that all I remined of was overcooked ommlette with crab, it was lovely but wasn't soft enough. The steak was delicious a great piece of meat, the mushrooms were excellent but the wilted greens were very domneering. The saving grace came in the form of the humble spud, theses were the most delicious potatoes i had/have/will have ever tasted, the butter the spuds, oh Lord! The monkfish was colossal, the romesco sauce was delicious.I didn't taste the duck but it sounded good. The deserts were good, the chocolate tart was phenomenal, the honeycomb just bringing out the saltiness, fab. The cherry and white choc sundae was shrap and sweet and tangy served with a warm madeline with orange overtones. The chees palte looked great. Overall the food got better with course and rising to a crescendo! The wine, not my choice was not hectic, semillion/sauv blanc was harsh and the red wasn't to my taste either, that's not to say they wouldn't suit someone! A good experience but i'm not in rush to get back.

It's a disused leather warehouse (hence the name) and has been beautifully converted to create a contemporary and spacious restaurant. The downstairs area is where you find the bar and where there's a bar, there's cocktails served at little round tables and very comfortable seats. They were so good and so potent, that I've forgotten what they were called! After a browse through the short but perfectly formed menu, we settled on who was ordering what for dinner. As I let The Hubs have first choice at lunch, I put my size fives down and demanded the pick of the menu. My starter choice was pre-determined : it had to be the crab creme brulee with pickled cucumber and melba toast. The Hubs made a face at this which I took as a good omen i.e. I wouldn't have to share it. He opted for the caramelised red onion tart with soft Dromana cheese. Mains kept both of us happy - aged ribeye steak with a wild mushroom duxelle and creamed onions, and smoked Barbary duck with green beans, peaches, bacon & girolles. In the interest of research, I also ordered the french fries with smoked paprika aioli (more about this later...). We were led upstairs to the very bright and airy dining room where I had a perfect view of all the activity. The restaurant was absolutely packed, with early bird diners leaving and being quickly replaced by the 8pm mob. Soon the crab and the tart showed up and we stopped talking. Until somebody opposite piped up "do you want to try some of mine". This isn't him being all nice and sharing. It just means that he wants some of mine. I happily handed over some of my crab, complete with pickled cucumber on a shard of melba toast and happily accepted some of his red onion tart which reminded me of my favourite Portugese tart, Pasteis do Nata. The Dromana cheese was soft and delicate which worked really well with the crispy pastry and melting red onion filling. My crab creme brulee was gorgeous. I actually would have been happy to eat a main course-sized portion of it

I had what I would consider an exceptional, faultless meal here. Despite the menu not being heavy on my favourite main ingredients, what came out of the kitchen was exactly what you want from a restaurant, inventive food that you would not think of cooking yourself or not have the skill to pull it off. Lovely room, exceptional service. Well priced for the standard on offer.

I attended the tannery restaurant and all I can say is I don't know how they are so successful maybe it's the building or is it the pretentious attitude from some of the staff ,not all, the waiting staff are great and the waitress that serviced us was a delight . I would consider myself to be a major foody having travelled all over in search of irelands finest cuisine delights. In my job I advice people on where to go and what to do in ireland this includes recommending good food ! I Wouldn't be sending anyone in this direction , although the menu sounded exciting the food didn't follow suit it was boring bland and missing some very key important ingredients ! I think maybe people really need to educate themselves on what good food should taste like because this really was just passable it lacked creativity not imagination as the cod crochets I ordered was literally bubbling on the plate ! I felt like this inventive dish was linked to one of rick stands victorian feasts except it was tasteless I sent it back ! I ordered something else and was shocked at what I encountered on the plate a baby chicken which was pink ! I was to embarrassed to send another dish back but the waitress who was fantastic informed me that a baby chicken is supposed to be pink because the bones are smaller , I was taught let the juices run clear and your in the clear well the juices weren't clear . So than I ate the potato and veg and I done something I rarely do I reached for the salt and pepper , I think I've summed it up with that !

This is a restaurant that I have been long meaning to go to (we're talking years here) due to the rave reviews from friends etc. So it was with great anticipation that I and two friends finally clicked our heels through the doors of this famed eatery. Well well...on spotting us through the open kitchen, a chef? loudly clapped (yes clapped) his hands loudly and in response a young waitress came promptly running down the stairs. Clearly they have a little 'actions speak better than words' system going on.This polite waitress took our coats and then took us up to a table, the decor is very chic in a 'new money' sort of way.We were given the menus and soon decided on the 'easy evening' menu at 28.50, my companions had a half litre of white at 16.00. The first course arrived in reasonable time and tasted wonderful albeit a small portion. However does chicken liver parfait require serving in a small kilner type clip jar? In my opinion no, this is an unnecessary distraction and plain inconvenient. We then waited a whopping 30 minutes for our main courses. My choice of lasagne was a deconstructed lukewarm offering, plenty of red onion and very economical on the knocknalara cheese, what a disappointment as this is what enticed me to order it in the first place. On being asked by the manager? if we were happy I informed her of the delay and told her we were now running late for a function.Granted she did step things up and we were provided with dessert menus immediatley. Our desserts which were delicious and one coffee where duly scoffed down due to our now time constraint. On paying the manager informed us she wasn't charging for the coffee. A free coffeel not in any way sway my opinion of this very average restaurant.

This restaurant has been on our list of places to visit for quite some time, so we eventually made it on Sunday last August 22nd at approx 6pm. We were met by a very pleasant front of house receptionist who showed us to our table and gave us some menus, as we were driving we did not partake of any wine. I opted for the Easy Evening Menu @ €28.50, my partner opted for the Aged rib eye steak from the a La Carte menu also @ €28.50. Our waiter brought some bread and water and took our order. I started with The Tannery tasting plate which comprised of duck pate, chicken liver pate, potted rabbit, and a cold soup. We shared the pate’s, it was ok but not spectacular. Then to the mains I had Pan fried trout, which came with a bed of peas and French beans, with a whirl of creamed potatoes. My partners Aged rib eye steak looked rather mean and small with two vegetable croquettes, four onion rings, and a bowl of creamed potatoes, we enquired from our waiter as to the contents of the bowl and were informed it was potatoes creamed with butter and cream and drizzled with oil. This meal left a lot to be desired, it was warm at best, not even hot. I ordered Chocolate truffle cake with cherries for desert, not bad but very heavy. I requested the bill which came to €57.00. During the course of the meal we observed waiters on three occasions making errors with orders, bringing wrong orders to tables. As we were the second couple in the restaurant, I just wonder was there an error made with our order, for The Tannery, with such a reputation we were so disappointed. It certainly would not encourage us to make a return visit. I have had to wait a few days to write this review, I was so angry at the standard of the food we go, and to charge €28.50 for that miserable offering of Aged rib eye steak. Shame on you.

I cannot praise this restaurant enough .The food was amazing ,(monkfish to die for-presentation and taste of all dishes 5*) ,wine and service impeccable. It has the grace of any Michelin Fine Food restaurant but the heart of a family run one . Well worth the trip to Dungarvan. Amazing all in all.

Had their all evening early bird menu. Both of us ordered the Tasting platter which consisted of a beautiful soup, pork rilette, crab brulee and smoked makerel. Choice of 4 main courses - i went for Hake which was perfectly cooked and came with a creamy portion of potato. Hubby went for the bacon which thought was only ok. Deserts were rhubarb creme brulee and a chocolate truffle cake. The cake was light and delicious but the brulee had been slightly overdone, getting to the scrambled egg stage. Wines were reasonably priced and they have a few desert wines on offer also. Service was great - our waitress was very attentive. 3 courses, 1 bottle of wine, 2 glasses of desert wine and 2 vodka tonics to start came to e113.

Went for dinner with my family on a Saturday night. Lovely, relaxed atmosphere. Pleasant staff. Had suckling pork belly for starter. Wasn't too impressed. It seemed to sacrifice taste over presentation. Rib eye steak was selected for the main. I don't think it was described how it was cooked in the menu (apologies if it was) but it was very greasy/oily and that wasn't to my taste. A bowl of creamed potatoes was served with the mains and nothing else. Perhaps it is old fashioned but I do think veg or some type of accompaniment should be served with mains. It left us feeling a little cheated value wise as the steaks (even though traditionally seen as a lesser cut) were still nearly €30. One of the steaks was served cold but in fairness the staff responded very well. One of our group had a lamb dish which was excellent. Because of the amount spent on the mains we were not too inclined to go for the desserts which seemed pricey. Shame really, due the steak issue the restaurant decided to pay for our coffees. My father was gutted. Overall, I was disappointed by the experience having heard such good things about the Tannery. I certainly did not feel it was good value for money.

My husband and I went to the Tannery on the bank holiday saturday. The restaurant is really nice with a lovely waiting area to have a drink and browse at the menu. The food was nice,my only complaint was that all courses were luke warm but not hot.We had the smoked venison and crab brulee starters, both of which were lovely. For mains,I had the scallops, they were nice but again luke warm and there was only 5 small scallops which cost €30! My partner had the quail and foie gras pie but the foie gras was jelly like and not that nice. The desserts were lovely.I had the passion fruit semi-freddo and my husband had the poached pear with gingerbread ice-cream.Overall it was a good meal but not mind blowing!!

Having heard a lot about this restaurant I was looking forwoad to a really great meal. The welcome was very pleasent and we were shown to our table by a very friendly lady. The menu was quickly produced and a drink order taken.I was glad no one was at the next table to us as a private conversation would not have been possible due to the proximity of the tables on our side of the room. The starter of Carpaccio of Pork was wonderful, this was followed by Rib Eye of Beef, not my favourite piece of beef, but again the flavour was fantastic. We both loved the veg.Had a dessert of mousse, which I really enjoyed.Even though this was a thurs evening and the restaurant was not full,I feel its all a bit cold and lacking in ambience and in this age rather expensive.

Having heard many good things about the Tannery over the past number of years, I was delighted to read about their ‘Party of Four’ offer in the Irish times in June. My husband, two friends and I went to avail of the offer. We stayed in the gorgeous townhouse, beautiful rooms and the very different unusual idea of breakfast eaten in the rooms. Finding our hot muffins just having been delivered at 2am in the morning was lovely! Dinner was fantastic, we had a bit of a rocky start having to wait 30 min for our table and having 3 starters delivered just to have them taken away as quickly again…however after that everything went smoothly and the dinner to follow blotted any earlier complaints from our minds. Crab Crème Brulee with the sweet and sour cucumber was fantastic. Two of us had this. Quail for my husband was also gorgeous as was the baby leeks, serrano ham and duck egg salad. The little bucket of bread was gorgeous, so much so that we asked for a second one. Mains of steak, lamb and the seafood Bouillabaisse had no complaints. The creamiest of mash lead me wondering if it was so good how bad for us was it. We’re hoping that it was just the olive oil that had it tasting so good and that it was actually healthy. Desserts of cannelloni with lemon curd and warm chocolate mousse were equally as good. Our two friends loved the chocolate mousse. I have been telling everyone about our trip to the Tannery and highly recommending the restaurant. Can’t wait to go back and try it again.

We were passing through Dungarvan and decided we had to try The Tannery. We were there about 6pm so we opted for The Early Bird menu which was gorgeous. My Partner had "Baby Chicken" and I had Veal for my maincourse, everything was pefect and veg was amazing. We will definitely return, the main menu looked excellent so we will have to sample this.

Just back from a lovely weekend in Dungarvan, the highlight or the weekend was my visit to the Tannery Cookery School on Friday night. The evening was called Richard Corrigan - Memories of Soho. I didnt really know what to expect and boy was I blown away. We arrived promptly at 7pm, were greeted by Richard Corrigan and offered a glass of Champagne with the most delicious oysters, raw with crispy spring onions and a wonderful dressing. Richard Corrigan gave a short talk about the menu for the evening and his own ideas about food....most interesting and entertaining. Then about 30 people had dinner, cooked and served by Richard Corrigan, what an honour! Delicious cauliflour and shrimp soup followed by a lamb feast: slow cooked shoulder of lamb, lambs kidneys, sweetbreads and liver , potatoes, salad and veggies from the Tannery garden and for desert the most divine elderflower and berry jelly and gallons of wine. The cost of the evening was €95.00 (wine included) and to date it was the most memorable dining experience I have ever had not to mention fantastic value. The school itself is state of the art, well worth a visit.

Myself and friend, were travelling down to Dungarvan on the way to Cork and decided to make a stop off in the tannery and stay in the Townhouse after hearing such great reports. The rooms were so quaint but with a very modern feel, the personal touches in the room added a real warmth to it! Our room looked out on to the garden where you could see the fresh fruit and veg growing, I have to say it didn’t disappoint, from the warm welcome to the accommodating staff our experience was flawless! I was a bit nervous about the menu choice, being allergic to fish you can be limited in your choices, but there was more than plenty of other options! I went for the starter that was on special which was terrine of ham hock which was delicious! My friend went for the lobster salad and left nothing on her plate which is always a good sign. For mains I went for the gunieafowl with rice and cream sauce which was cooked to perfection the meat just melted in your mouth! My friend went for the rib eye steak which she asked to be cooked medium and medium was what she got, she said it cut so easily and was full of favour. For dessert I went for the chocolate mousse and my friend went for the cheese plate, which was delicious and I ended up eating half of it! The staff were very helpful but not constantly in your face, they knew the wine menu with extensive knowledge and assisted us in our choice to compliment our food. We ended up having great fun with the staff and we were the last to leave the restaurant and they didn’t make us feel like we needed to rush out! Overall our experience of the Tannery was amazing, It was the best night out Ive had in a long time! We found out when we were down there that they do Cookery courses, and we are already planning our next weekend away in the Tannery to try carve up our culinary skills!!

I have always liked The Tannery..The food .service etc. has always been tops...BUT last Wednesday's visit was a let down.. Food was fine but th service was slow and the athmosphere of being "looked after" seems to have vanished.. The Tannery needs to pull its socks up or they won't keep their patrons at the prices they charge..

My husband and I were in Dungarvan for a short break and we went to the Tannery on the Tuesday night. We opted for the al a carte however we should have just went for the early bird as I think the quality of the food would have been just as good and much cheaper. Firstly we got a little basket of fresh warm bread with butter and garlic oil, this was yummy. For started I had the crab creme brulee which was delicious. My husband had the lobster salad which was nice but contained very little lobster! For main I had the whole plaice on the bone, this was delicious, really fresh. My husband had stuffed quail which was lovely. I had lemon meringue pie for dessert which I really enjoyed. My husband had apple jelly and almond icecream. The apple jelly was not good! Petit fours was toffee popcorn. We shared a swallows tale shiraz cabernet sauvignon - really good. Bill before service was €130. I would recommend the tanney but the early bird is the menu to go for!

Oh dear. This was to be the culinary highlight of our holiday. What a disappointment. Starter tonight was baby leek 'salad' and serrano ham with duck egg. 'Baby' leeks were stringy, rubbery, flavourless and inedible. Serrano was provided in stingy, shrivelled and fatty scraps. Egg was unremarkable. On the other hand himself had a delicious light. creamy and delicately flavoured crab brulee with melba toast and pickled cucumber which was, in my opinion, the highlight of the meal. Mains were rib-eye steak and lamb. Lamb was tender despite being a little overdone. Served with creamy mashed potatoes and baby veg and beans. Steak was served well done. Which would have been fine had I not requested medium-rare. 20 mins later got a medium steak too sinewy to be edilble. Dessert was passable chocolate mousse and lemon meringue tart but nothing special. Finished with plesant latte and hot chocolate. Service was friendly but too slow given the restaurant was less than 25% full tonight (sat down at 8 pm, dessert wasn't served til after 10 pm). There was no attempt to amend for our obviously disappointing experience when the bill came. For the prices they're charging this restaurant isn't delivering the goods. Overall very disappointing. I won't be back.

I have eaten here several times before and I am finding that the quality and consistency is top marks every time. Had the double beef (beef cheek) this time and it was cooked to perfection. The sauces are the specialty. Save room for dessert because it is worth the wait. Wine menu is good enough and you don't have to spend a lot to find a nice compliment. One of my favorite restuarants in Dungarven.

Evening was just fabulous really. First we had a 'talk' from the owner about the idea behind the chef's table. He wanted to create a space that felt like home, where the food was simple and the sort of things that he likes to eat at home himself and serve to friends. Evening started off with a tour of the kitchen garden. It was great to see a proper kitchen garden for a restaurant. Big, well stocked and it looks great. The dining room is really big and has a single, simple wooden table, modern chairs, simple table settings, flowers, nice colour on the walls, great decor... It just felt and looked so comfortable. And it was! We all just felt instantly at ease. We all got into the spirit of the evening and everybody started eating. Starter: various fish, smoked mackerel, smoked salmon, gravadlax, pickles, sour cream and a big bowl of salad from the garden, sourdough and ciabatta plus crostini and toasted brioche. The silence around the table said more than I could ever say. Next, the Bouillabaisse appeared plated, followed by the bowl with the rest of it, enough for everybody to have two and half portions! Bouillabaisse was full of hake, red snapper, john dory, monkfish, mussels, prawns and white beans, fish stock, some tomatoes and some other things I now forget, garlic, spring onions... A real mouthful of things! We all fell silent again, despite the flowing wine. The man knows how to feed people. No fuss, no minimalism, no conventional restaurant stuff (which he is very good at of course), just simple good food served nicely. Dessert. Ginger and rhubarb trifle, in huge bowls, enormous bowls, studded with slabs of white chocolate sprinkled with pistachio and chili or something. Lovely dessert! I should probably have picked something less rich, but as trifles go it was light and airy and delicious. Memorable evening, absolutely recommended! Will be going back there as soon as we can, as well as the restaurant itself.

My friend and I ate in The Tannery during the week and it will definitely be our last time. I have beee a fan of the Tannery for quite some time but my last 3 visits have been most unenjoyable. We were greated at reception by a most unfriendly and rude senior memember of staff who showed us to our tables and threw the menus on the table informing us of what number wines they did not have. After this greating and bad treatment we were in two minds of walking out and eating elsewhere..... We did not go for the early bird option as nothing appealed to us. Our starters arrived and both dishes were very tasty and most enjoyable, but it stopped there.... Our mains arrived, one was over cooked, one was full of grissel and both were bland and tasteless. The same member of staff came to our table saying "is that ok for you" we both just wanted to leave and decided it was best to say nothing as we felt quite uncomfortable with the way we had been treated and the attitude we had recieved. The bill came to approx €115 and I regreat to say, this is will be the last time I will be returning to The Tannery. Food aside I probably would have given it a 4th chance, but after the awful service we recieved I definitely will not be back

Just returned after a fab weekend in Dungarvan for the festivle of food.I dont remember having such a good time in ages, great weather, great food and great accommodation. We booked in to the Tannery townhouse for Sat and Sunday night and boy were we impressed with the standard of comfort and cleandliness even down to the warm muffins left at our door each night. We decided to treat ourselves to dinner at the Tannery Restaurant on Sat Night even though we had a fair share of food and wine during the day at various locations about town. The food and service at the Tannery was excellent and the wonderful Hostess could not do enough for us,she went out of her way to make sure we dined and wined well even recommending a great watering hole to finsh off our night but for the life of me I cannot remember the name,I wonder why!! Dungarvan is a great town and the Tannery is a great destination cant wait to go back.

Best restaurant I've ever been to. Went with a group of 5 people and we all had different starters and mains. Every single one of us was blown away but what we ate. All of us were convinced that what we ate was the best. I've never been to a restaurant where this has happened before. There is usually one meal better than another. Would highly recommend it.

Irish hospitality is alive and well at the Tannery restaurant. I was invited to my friend's 40th Birthday Party on the 3rd April. I travelled down from Dublin on a busy Friday night, feeling slightly weary. I checked into the Tannery Town House to a very welcoming room. I then changed and trotted across the street to the Tannery. In my haste to get to the party, I didn't know what to expect or what to think about the night. From the moment I walked in to the restaurant and up to the moment I left (which was late..), everything was perfect. I was completely overwhelmed by the hospitality and the attention to detail shown by the tannery staff. Everybody was made feel so welcome. The professional manner in which they looked after us really added to the sense of occasion. 70 people sat down to a dinner that could only be described as perfection. We started with Oysters and Prosecco downstairs. Dinner commenced upstairs with delicious Chicken Liver Parfait. It was cleverly presented in individual parfait jars accompanied by onion marmalade, salad leaves and crostini. That was followed by the most perfectly cooked cod. For pudding we had a very pretty desert which was memorable because it looked as good as it tasted. This consisted of the pinkest rhubarb and sorbet served on ginger shortbread. It was quite simply the best party I have ever attended. Whilst the party was a huge success, I feel that it was down to the hospitality, and the way in which everybody was made feel so welcome. The party girl also had a fantastic night! Her confidence in the Tannery team was more than justified. The motto for the night is 'Leave it to the Professionals' and I certainly know where I'm going for my Big Birthday!

I visited the tannery restaurant on saturday evening with some relatives and we had a great time, everything from the warm welcome to the lovely food could not have been better. the restaurant was really busy and there was a great buzz about the place.the only small thing that bothered me was that we were a bit rushed, but that may have been to do with them being so busy. i will go back again thought

Having enjoyed may fantastic dinners over the last few years and another great meal in the tannery last saturday night, I decided to put pen to paper. I think great local restaurants should be supported and when speaking about this to a friend over the weekend, she said menupages was a good place to get the word out. Imagine my surprise when I saw the previous review. I wondered if I was in the same place. However, I can only speak for myself. I had crab creme brulee (can never resist it) and rabbit - delicious. Divine chocl mousse for dessert. All six in our party enjoyed theirs - absolutely no complaints and as we had great service from start to finish, we had no problem paying the service charge on the bill. Going in, I noticed paul flynn slaving away. Going home, we had a nosey at the new cookery school up the street which looks amazing. Thumbs up for the Tannery!

This place is doing business on its name only as the service is poor from the barely trained staff - our tepid food was plonked on the table without a word. There was nothing amazing, below average portions, and steak served on toast is not an evening meal. Caramelized onion was basic and the wine menu is nothing special. Good points: The glass of champagne was nice, but like the rest of the menu, overpriced and overrated.

I have eaten here an numerous occasions and as always the food was excellent, bursting with flavour. The service is amazing, waiters extremely attentive and professional. The only thing lacking is that the portion size is a little small.

I love the Tannery, its always great. Don't go if you are on a diet! The food is wonderful. The service is very good. The only thing that I find a bit anoying is the noise level, when the place is full its loude! I sat opposite my sisters and couldn't hear a word they were saying. But you can learn to live with that!

Myself and my good lady wife ate in the Tannery restaurant last Saturday night, having not been down in a couple of years and I have to say, it was just as good as I remembered-it was absolutely fabulous. Wow! Our whole experience from start to finish was great, starting with the extremely clued in and friendly proprietress (who I assume is the same person the previous poster was so uncomplimentary about - I couldn't disagree more!) who made us feel really welcome and stayed chatting to us for a bit while we were waiting to order. I had the chicken liver parfait and the slow cooked beef which were beautiful while my wife had the crab crème brulee and the roast woodpigeon which was just delicious -we just about made room for the mousse at the end which was to die for... All washed down with a nice Pinot Grigio , the bill came to €130 including tip, which, for what we got, was great value for money, we won't be leaving it so long again to make the trip down from Kilkenny which was just over the hour mark!

My boyfriend and I ate here on Friday night and overall we enjoyed it. As we were there at seven we were offered the early bird which had a lot of choice on it so we both ordered from that. We both had the fish chowder, the game pie and the chocolate mousse. All of which were gorgeous and we were dreaming of the pie and the mousse the next day - mouthwatering. The only thing I would say about the game pie, was that we didn't like how the carrot and parsnip that was served with it, complemented it, something else would have been better. The only downfall of The Tannery was the over full of herself lady owner who constantly wandered around the tables and chatted to the customers, she had notions above her station. This early bird was €30 and with two glasses of wine, a bottle of prosciutto and a bottle of still water, the bill came to €114. Not the cheapest early bird but definitely worth it.

I dined in The Tannery Restaurant last Saturday night and it was one of the best meals I have enjoyed in Ireland since I cant remember. I had been told about the crab creme brulee and it definitely lived up to expectations. My partner had a duck salad with peas and mint dressing and it was superb, juicy duck with a refreshing minty pea accompaniment. For main course I had a quail and foie gras pie which was I think the best main course I have ever had. Beautiful crisp pastry and tasty quail and bacon (I think) filling. My partner had rib-eye steak and judged it to be "mighty-fine". We were too stuffed to have two desserts so shared a chococlate dessert - I forget the name but it was delicious. Later we shared a cheese plate which was a perfectly ripe combination of Blue Dauvergne and a local cheese. Their wine list has a lot of very nice new world wines at good prices and the Spanish section is particularly good. Service was absolutely lovely, warm, friendly and even though the staff seemed very busy, they were extremely pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. They also knew what they were talking about when describing the menu. I cant rate this place highly enough and I will definitely be back again very soon.

Coming to the Tannery was one of my greatest culinary disappointments. I had heard about it for years from friends and family and so I was looking forward to finding a world class restaurant tucked away in a pretty part of Ireland. Upon arriving in the restaurant we were loved the look of the exterior of the building and ground floor and enjoyed an apperatif lounging on one of the couches. However we were disappointed when we were brought upstairs to the dining room, lit far too brightly, the furniture looked like a job lot from MFI and so many mirrors on the wall that you can see the back of your head and your turkey-neck if you unfortunate enough to have one. The meal should have been excellent and indeed the ingredients and presentation were but for some reason someone decided that a steamed brill would be improved by dousing it in butter. This was the same for the Monkfish and the Aged Rib Eye. Without exaggeration there was nearly half a teacup of butter on the plates drowning out the flavor of the fish or meat and turning the lightly cooked vegetables into a mush. So one easy tip to make this a good restaurant DO NOT PUT BUTTER ON EVERYTHING. Unfortunately I will not know if they heed this advice as I will certainly never go back. PS the 4 stars for the food are for what I imagine it would have tested without the butter and the 3 stars for Service/Atmosphere are an average of 5 stars for service and 1 star for atmosphere (too bright)

I was blown away by this gem of a restaurant I have been meaning to visit for a few years now. Finally got sorted and took advantage of the special offer €100 dinner with bed and breakie in their Tannery Townhouse around the corner which is very comfortable and provides the best continental filling homemade breakfast I have had, right down to the homemade yogurt with fruit puree in the bottom and toasted cereals and nuts on top! Our table was booked for 9pm after our evening journey down from Wicklow, we were not seated until almost 9.30 (we were starving by then!) but it was explained to us by the lovely Maitre D' Petra that they were exceptionally busy for a Tuesday night and had a lot of walk ins for their early bird. For the meal, we ordered the charcuterie plate to share as a pre-starter (we were hungry after all) and the pate that came on the platter of mixed Irish charcuterie was particularly delicious, rich and creamy. Our starters were the famous crab creme brulee and the warm duck with peas and yoghurt, we shared both and to be honest, the next time I am ordering a whole crab creme brulee to myself as it was quite simply THE nicest thing I have ever tasted in my life. Served with a cucumber pickle which I initially didn't want to mix with the crabby creamyness, it actually worked very well once I mixed the two on the melba toast. Mains were roasted guinea fowl which was succulent and the tarragon cream sauce was perfect with it. The other was monk fish wrapped in parma ham and served with roasted peach, again this was delicious. The portion of creamy mash spud (no additional charge) was really comforting stuff and both mains were served with veg so no need to order extra as in most places which pushes up the price of the meal. The food is very well priced, excellent value for money, excellent service from some genuine waiters and waitresses who are obviously very happy in their jobs. I can't wait to come back down to Dungarvan for another treat at The Tannery.
