Beautiful restaurant in the lovely village of Cheekpoint. I have been visiting this village since my childhood and the experience never fails to impress. Booked a table in the Cottage Bistro for Valentines, my girlfriend and myself had a very enjoyable evening. I had the chowder and sirloin steak and she had the soup and seafood au gratin, a family favourite. We shared an amazing homemade chocolate heesecake for dessert. Would recommend to anyone visitng the area. The staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is inviting.

A family favourite for many years, we keep going back to the Cottage Bistro. The friendlist staff, the most charming location and the tastiest food mean that we plan ahead for when we're in the area. The Seafood Au Gratin here has become the yardstick to which all other Seafood pies are measured against. Prawns in Garlic butter (as a starter or main) has to get a mention too as my mouth waters now, thinking of them. Finally, you have to listen intently to all of the desert specials and face the dilemma of which one to have. I've brought many people here who have said at the start of the meal that they're not desert people, and have buckled after the sound of hot raspberries and ice-cream or meringues in butterscotch sauce. My favourite seafood restaurant who'll have us coming back for years to come.

we took a drive out to the bistro last night and was looking forward to a nice meal after reading all the good reviews but it was a big let down.i had the warm bacon salad the lettuce was soaked in a not so nice dressing and the bits of bacon were to salty and hard to chew. for my main course i ordered the hake and was told it was in a pie i gave it ago anyway but found it to be a big dissapointment the sauce was bland and the mash on top was tasteless. we shared a dessert that was as much as a let down as the rest and came served with fake cream.i think the food is very over priced the staff are very nice and the atmosphere is lovely and the service is very good but i won,t be back for the food sorry

I agree with the other reviews on this site. This restaurant is the best place for seafood in the country. If I could give it 6 stars I would. We make a point of going to the Bistro every time we're in Waterford. You can be guaranteed a warm welcome from the owners when you arrive and the atmosphere is always buzzing. It's cosy and quaint and in a gorgeous spot for a little stroll after gorging yourself on their menu. Speaking of their menu, it's simple which means they concentrate well on what they do offer . And....there's something for everyone. Aside from all the fish there are beef, chicken and vegetarian options. On our last visit to Dunmore East last week we went twice. the first visit I had the trio of smoked fish for starter and the prawns in garlic, coriander and chili butter. Both are simply out of this world. Big portions and with a complimentary side salad. The 2nd visit I had the mussles in garlic butter and the seafood platter, which is a must if you like fish. There is a little bit of everything on this plate. Word of warning.....go to the Cottage Bistro hungry. If you should be lucky enough to go try the hot raspberries and ice cream for dessert. Simple but truly delicious. Indeed I can't say enough good things about this place. I love it, love it, love it!!!!

Having had a recommendation from a collegue we tried The Cottage Bistro while on holidays. Simply the best seafood restaurant we've ever been to. We had the Seafood Au Gratin and it was mouth wateringly delicious. Apparantly this has been a local secret for many years. We will definitely be going back the next time we're in Waterford.

Having read the glowing reviews on here about this restaurant we decided to eat there. Having taken our seats and read the impressive menu we were really looking forward to the meal. Now, unless we were unfortunate in the extreme on timing of our visit I cannot see how this place is worthy of its 5 star reviews. The chowder was extremely bland and sparcely filled with seafood, the warm bacon salad was saturated with bacon fat which is apparrently added to the dish on purpose. The main courses of Baked Hake and Baked Sole were the real disappointments. Both dishes are in fact served as a 'pie', in a stodgy cream sauces and topped with piped mash. To that end the menu is misleading. Given the proximity to the sea we were expecting fabulous fresh fish and were very disappointed in what we received. Even the dished were unsatisfactory and lacked flavour and seasoning. On top of this a well-done steak was practically white such was the amount of cooking it received. Also the wine was expensive at over €16 for half bottle. Won't be back and wouldn't recommend it, certainly not a 5 star experience.

Stayed in Faithlegg and was recommended to go here for dinner. Like sitting in your mates kitchen only nicer and with food like you've never tasted anywhere in your life!!! If C@¬$berg did restaurants the Cottage Bistro would be the place. Lovely soup to start, fish is unbelievable and comes with the freshest of salad. Desserts to die for and all in a simple, homely atmosphere. I'll be back!

Possibly the best restaurant we have ever been to! A lovely laid back, homely atmosphere, nothing was a problem and we were never waiting for a thing. Had soup to start - it was piping hot and just the right consistancy, absolutely beautiful. I had the lemon Sole and my partner had steak - I could not do it justice in words; mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm delicious, mouthwatering, seculent and unbelieveably tasty! We were so full but when we saw the tempting desert menu we could not help ourselves. Sticky toffee pud and apple and toffee cake . . . . still living on the memory! Don't consider - just go! You won't regret it!!!!!!! We will be back - thanks!

I have eaten here on quite a few occasions, the seafood is delicious. They have also started to serve steaks which is great for non-fishy people and these are also very tasty. The staff are very friendly and the prices are quite reasonable. Another thing I love is that you get a complementary salad to start and it has the most delicious coleslaw I've ever had :)
