Fantastic spot. Food is great. Went with a large party and food wasn't so good on one occasion. Generally, very nice though. Watch out for the Jungle Curry - its uber-hot!!

My hubby and I like to visit Sabai regularly enough when we go out for a meal...this is my first review though having just joined the site. Have to say, i have never had bad food here, it's always pretty great, in fact gorgeous! But i do think there are a couple of areas they could improve on - the service experience from all of our visits is quite inconsistent... this visit, we couldn't fault it, but on previous visits, it's definitely been below par - food taking ages, can't catch the waiting staff's attention, staff not being friendly. I also have a gripe about the drinks menu. I'm not a wine drinker or a beer drinker, but LOVE a nice cocktail with a meal... i'm a bit of a cocktail buff and Sabai obviously has a liquor license but the cocktail menu is the most boring and unimaginative menu I've ever seen.... so much so that i don't even bother and they are awful value... the most expensive on the list is €10.50... Those prices have also held hard and fast all through the recession too. I just think they need to add a little more imagination and variety to their cocktail menu and reconsider their pricing point too... no-one will pay €10 for a cocktail anymore. Foodwise, it's exquisite but as another reviewer has mentioned, it is a bit overpriced.

This is a simple review with a simple grievance. I have eaten in Sabai several times. The restaurant is comfortable and stylishly decorated both internally and externally. On the date mentioned the place was full and there seemed to be a good general atmosphere, if somewhat noisy. On this occasion I was there to collect a takeaway having rang it in 20 mins beforehand. I was given the takeaway immediately on arrival by the manager which was good. It consisted of a Beef Green Curry and a Chicken Yellow Curry which were very good without being spectacular, a Duck Curry which was mediocre due to the duck being tough from overcooking and a Pad Thai which was above average. The problem was that after spending 44 euros on a takeaway there was no sign of prawn crackers or anything added. When I tried to shame the manager into giving them to me by asking if the order came with them he just said "nah, they don't". Spending money on a good meal doesn't bother me in the slightest and it's not a case of trying to get something for nothing. It's a case of measuring how willing a restaurant is regarding value i.e. quality and to a lesser extent quantity for your money. I consider 44 euros to be a large amount spent on 4 takeaway meals and considering what competing restaurants are giving you when you spend that amount then Sabai needs to get its act together. If it was astounding you could possibly forgive them. Advertising it as cooking Vietnamese dishes is also incorrect. They do not cook authentic Vietnamese dishes. Calling the Yellow Curry, Ho Chi Minh Yellow Curry does not suffice.

I ate out here a few weeks ago and was very pleasantly surprised. We sat downstaris and I thought the decor and atmosphere were lovely. The food, although a bit more expensive than many of the other resaurants in Waterford, was fantastic. There is a very large menu with somrthing to suit everybody. The spring rolls that I had to start were gorgeous and the Pad Thai I had for mains was so tasty. I was also very impressed witht their selection of wine. I will be visiting again soon and would like to try the tasting menu - looks great

We had the Tasting menu which consisted of 2 starters to share, 4 main courses to share, one dessert to share and tea or coffee for 30 euro per person. The food was plentyful and very tasty. The service was good. Attentive but not constantly over you watching your every move. The setting is lovely. Needs a bit of a paint touch up inside but it is very nice decorated. The staff was very friendly.

My husband and I both love thai food so we were delighted to discover this restuarant so close to our hotel. It was a very busy Wednesday night but the service was excellent and the staff were friendly. The food was lovely and the portion sizes were very large (almost too big) - one main course from the main menu would easily do two people. The only problem we had was with the price. The main courses are €17.50 not including rice or noodles which cost an additional €4.50/€5.00. Our bill for two starters and two mains with a children's order (we only drank water & my daughter had an orange juice) came to over €70, before tip, which we felt was very expensive. The restuarant should consider reducing the portion sizes and their prices.

I am not a huge eater of Thai food and this place would not turn me into one either. 4 of us had meal here on sat night. Lovely buzz in the place, it was quite busy but I found it difficult to find much I liked on menu. I ended up with the weeks special, tiger steak, which was bits of steak in soya sauce. Nice but wouldn't set the world alight. As the others ordered rice, I ordered chips as a change. I know chips are not a Thai dish but these were horrible, overcooked and not appetising looking at all. The thing that annoyed me the most was the hard wooden chairs, after half hour my backside was feeling it. I don't understand why restaurants cannot put soft comfortable chairs for diners. That said, the staff were friendly and efficient and I'm sure it you are a big Thai food fan you would enjoy is as did my fellow diners.

I went there for lunch during the easter week end. I got the lunch menu for 14,95€ for 2 courses. It was good, the people and decoration were nice. The place was not crowded so it was a relaxing moment.

I was in Waterford during the easter weekend so I stop here for lunch. There were 3 of us and when we arrived around half noon, the place was empty. We sat downstairs and the room was small but nicely decorated. We all went for the lunch set menu which was 2 courses for 14,95. I started with the spring rolls served with a sweet chili sauce. The other had the vietnamese salad which was huge and then the chicken satay. The salad was huge and had large prawns and chicken. I tried a bite of the salad and it tasted more thai/lao than vietnamese but everything was good. I followed with a shrimp pad thai and it tasted great. The seasoning was just right. I was really surprised by the food and overall I though it was a good value.

4 of us went, had two tasting menus and two main course options and one starter, total E130. The 5 spice roast duck was excellent, the pad thai was excellent, and the rest was all very good. The taster menu also had a prawn salad and a beef curry, the curry was good, the beef itself wasn't great. Dessert wasn't not great, but thats not unusual in Asian restuarants. The menu is more Thai than Vietnamese. The room itself is reminiscent of the old Coast in Tramore, an old Victorian house converted, and very nicely done. Lovely bar area, and very nice outside terrace, would be great in summer. Staff are good, and on the night the atmosphere was somewhat loud because of one family table that featured a deaf grannie doing Irish revision with her grandson! Well recommended, good lively fresh cooking with good ingredients and well seasoned/spiced. Plenty of lime juice and chilli being used. Good to see this kind of food being served as opposed to sloppy Thai with generic sauces.

Went there to celebrate my cat having five kittens (yes five!). Me and my partner are both animal fanatics and this was a very special moment for the both of us. I tried the Tom Yam for starters. The texture was a tad chewy at times but the cocophony of flavours were melt in the mouth gorgeous. The Thai green chicken curry was very tasty as a main course and they don't skimp on the portions unlike some of the fancy restaurants that barely gave a morcel of food during the Celtic Tiger boom years. I would thoroughly recommend a visit to Sabai the next time you are in Waterford. You won't be disappointed!

Called in here for a meal while we were on a weekend away in Waterford, and just happened upon Sabai. Really enjoyed the meal, the atmosphere is lovely and the setting is nice too. I had the Vietnamese prawn curry and it was excellent, lovely flavours, and had the chocolate stack for dessert which was lovely. Great selection of cocktails as well, including some fab desert ones. Will definitely be returning whenever I'm back in Waterford!

Went here with my husband and two friends on a Saturday night. The decor and layout is lovely. Service is ok - our waitress was abit grumpy! We had a couple of starters between us - one was sweetcorn fritters which were yummy and came with a 3 dips - peanut sauce, chilli sauce and a kind of salsa. I had a red duck curry for main. This was yummy with lots of duck and veg. I did find it annoying that the main dishes here are all around €18-€20 and then you have to pay around €3-€4 extra for rice or noodles. I shared a "triple chocolate stack" with my husband which was fine but would have been nicer with a scoop of vanilla icecream.

Went here (big gang of us) for a 30th birthday party. Couldn't fault the service; very friendly and helpful. They also were anxious that we liked what we got, and actually offered to change my main meal if I didn't like it (unheard of!) and also dumbed-down a friend's meal, as it was to spicy for her liking. The food was really tasty, but overly expensive and not necessarily 100% as described on the menu. I would recommend, and I will go back, but perhaps plum for some of the more "usual" menu choices to try them out, and see... Major downside was atmosphere, it was dead, but perhaps after Christmas wasn't a good judge - and we were put upstairs, on our own... never good!

Booked this restaurant for our team christmas lunch. We arrived quite late (just after 1.45pm) and ended up being the only party left in the restaurant but it was just fab. We had an eclectic group with diners from India, South Africa and New Zealand as well as us Paddys and nobody ordered the same dish. Starters and Main Courses were excellent and the chocolate cake for dessert is to die for. Venue is just fab - really nicely decorated and a fab smoking area (I am told!!) Service was excellent despite the fact that we did not leave till nearly 5pm - we were never made feel we being rushed out. Will definitely be back.

I ate here earlier in the summer at a "Sex in the City" themed evening. It was a set menu with a limited choice but the food was fab, as was the complimentary cocktail! The was also a best dressed competition and a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes up for grabs! It was certainly a very different evening and was booked up with lots of groups of girls. Really innovative idea and I hope they plan to hold something similar again soon as it's a great girlie night out.

so fed up with chinese food - this place is a breath of fresh air - mised starter is a must - bit of everything ummm!!!!! Jungle curry reminds me of thailand - -real food ! and hot & very spicy - Duck dishes good and unusual and the green curry is great - bit let down on the dessert front - but the ice cream cocktails really make up for it - try it for lunch - quiet but fast & good service - pity they dont open mon & tues!!
