The Port House, owned by The Porterhouse Group which in addition owns the renowned Lillie’s Bordello on Grafton Street. Port House serves an array of tapas and pintxos as well as an extensive range of fine wines, ports and sherries Located at 64A South William Street this beautiful and solely candle lit wine cavern has been stripped back to its original features. Wine educated staff are on hand to help you choose your bottle from the shelf while sampling the different types of pintxos and tapas. Commenting on the opening, director, Lee Sim of The Porterhouse Group said, “We want to create something different in Dublin, a traditional Spanish tapas bar where one can relax, have a glass of wine and some pintxos without having a full three course meal. It will be your typical Spanish tapas bar with varied pintxos displays, but in true Spanish style, will have a limited table service.” The Port House wine list is wide, varied and full of interesting wines, ports and sherries at a very reasonable price.

I am always raving about this place but for some reason had never been with my boyfriend so when we found ourselves in a taxi in the lashing rain trying to decide on somewhere to eat we decided on The Port House. When we went in we were informed that there would be no table for about half an hour. It was 9.30pm already but we really couldnt face going back out in the rain and the waitress was really friendly so we seated ourselves in the waiting area and ordered a bottle of the Orchidea Sauvignon Blanc. I think 25euro for a really good bottle of wine in a restaurant is pretty good, often the mark up can be alot more. After a while we were seated and our order taken. I had my usual...goats cheese salad, calamari and patatas bravas. My boyfriend had the meatballs and the bravas also. As a huge fan of bravas he can be hard to please but he agreed that they were really good. All the food was spot on and I couldnt fault it in any way. We had such an enjoyable night and will definitley return again soon.

I have eaten here twice recently. It is a pity you cannot reserve a table as hanging around can be quite tiresome and the waiting area is not very large. The first time I ate here I thought the food was amazing, so much choice and so tasty. The candle-lit atmosphere was lovely and warm. The lady who served us was patient, informative and very on the ball. Lovely wine as well. The second time was a little different, it was mid week, the service was not as good, once served we were kind of abandoned....maybe because we were not drinking that night. Anyway, the food was still good, though not as good as our original night...maybe a different chef. Overall, i would go back, but on the weekend.

The tapas are superb - great selection (even for vegetarians). Service is good. Wine is great. Really good value. Would recommend it to anyone. The only downside is that they don't take bookings!
