Cafe NovoPosted on 06 March 2012
Made a booking for Sunday night (7.30pm). Turned up and it was clearly obvious that a booking wasn't needed. We were the only diners in the restaurant for about 20 minutes so the atmosphere wasn't the best. Had the scallops and spring roll for starters. The scallops were bland. Virtually no flavouring. The spring roll was quite tasty. I had the cod to follow, which was delicious. It came with a small side salad and chips which were in a little bucket thing. I generally find cod really tasteless but this was lovely. My friend had the seared salmon which she said was lovely, but wasn't really gone on the potato. We shared the chocolate brownie with ice cream. This was really nice, if a little heavy. Service was excellent. Would definitely go back.

Montys of KathmanduPosted on 06 March 2012
Ate here last night and arrived just before 7 so was in time for the value meal (although I saw the waiters give it to people who arrived just before 8). I had the onion bhajee for starters followed by the jhinga pathia, prawns in a sweet and sour curry sauce. The prawns came with rice or naan bread, I chose the naan bread. The food was delicious. Really really tasty. I don't like curries, but this wasn't a curry like we know it. There were only 6 king prawns in the dish but it was just enough. The sauce was beautiful and I ate most of it with the naan bread. The service however wasn't what I expected. I arrived just after a couple whose coats were being taken as I sat down. We got the menus at the same time, but I was then ignored for about 10 minutes before the waiter eventually decided to take my order although I was clearly ready to order and the other couple had ordered and received their drinks. While I was eating, the waiter walked around and asked the others how their meal was, again I was ignored. The food was lovely, but that particular waiter would put me off going again.

Captain America's Cookhouse And BarPosted on 27 February 2012
Ate here in December with a friend. Was packed when we arrived but that was to be expected around Christmas. Put our name down and had to wait for 45 minutes. We actually left and came back at our allotted time and still had to wait for a free table. Got seated at a tiny table just big enough for two plates. Waiters are all very friendly and the atmosphere was good. My friend got the ribs and he said they were delicious. I had a cajun chicken burger off the €14.95 menu. it was quite tasty. The service was a little slow, and although my meal was quite good value, overall it is pretty steep for the type of food on offer.

Have eaten here twice and both times was for a Christmas party. Food was beautiful both times and service was excellent. Very friendly waiters. It was been very quiet in the restaurant any time I've been there so the atmosphere hasn't been great. Food is delicious however so would definitely recommend.

Village Bistro at Tonic Bar, Restaurant and ClubPosted on 27 February 2012
Have eaten here regularly for lunch and the odd Friday after work. Was in Tonic last Friday and was hoping to get tapas. When we arrived however we were told that we could only have tapas if we were seated in the restaurant part of the bar, which is a bit odd. We wanted to sit in the bar area so unfortunately the tapas were out. Ordered off the bar menu instead. I always find the food good here but the service can be painfully slow, particularly at lunch time when everyone is in a hurry. I had the goats cheese salad which was quite substantial but not enough goats cheese for the size of the salad. Everyone else was pretty happy with their food. Would recommend but not if you are in a hurry.

Fire RestaurantPosted on 21 February 2012
A group of us ate here and had the pre theatre menu. Our coats were taken on arrival as we were first seated in the waiting area outside. First impressions were good. Once were were seated in the restaurant we were given menus which had a great selection for a set menu. I had the fish cakes to start, the lemon sole to follow and the ice cream to finish. The food was delicious and the other members of the group all agreed. However a friend of mine had given me glowing reviews of the restaurant so I was really expecting something exceptional. Service was good if a little slow and it took a while to get someone's attention to get the bill. No one was rushing us out though after dinner so it was nice to relax after the meal. As we were leaving we discovered that coats are simply stored on a rail in the restaurant rather than an official cloakroom.

Alexis Bar And GrillPosted on 21 February 2012
I recently ate here with work colleagues for a long lunch. Everything from start to finish was lovely.
Service was excellent without being overbearing. I did have one niggle though and that was that the waiter was removing plates from our table while one member of our party was still eating.
The food was beautiful. I had the shellfish ravioli for starter which was the highlight of my meal there. To follow I chose the slow cooked pork which came with mustard mash and finally I had the Alexis sundae. The sundae only comes with one very small scoop of ice cream and additional scoops are charged at €1.50 each which I thought was a bit steep. However overall the food, service and value was excellent and the decor of the restaurant is quite nice. I would definitely recommend.

Lautrecs Tapas & Wine Bar KilkennyPosted on 21 February 2012
Ate here with a group of girls for a leaving party. There were 12 or 13 of us in total. Because we were such a large party we were seated upstairs right by the door to the kitchen, which was a bit cramped and doesn't have the same atmosphere as downstairs.
We all ordered off the set menu which was slightly different to what was advertised on its website. I had the goats cheese for starter which was delicious. I chose pizza for main which I was very disappointed with. It was very bland. Most of the others who had ordered pizza agreed. For dessert I had ice cream which was nothing special. I have eaten here before however and thought everything was lovely but the main course really let it down that night.
As for the service, it was good. Friendly and efficient.
