Elephant & Castle

Elephant & Castle

Posted on 15 June 2007
Yes, the wings are good. Good, but not great. And are good wings alone enough reason to visit a restaurant? Because, there is honestly little else I can recommend about Elephant and Castle. Mains - chicken and burgers - were bland. Service was perfunctory, and while I have no problem waiting for a table, the wait here was frankly ridiculous. Overpriced and overrated.

Mexico to Rome

Mexico to Rome

Went for the Early bird, so can only comment on that, as opposed to the full menu. Between a table of 3 we had salad, crab cake and garlic bread for starters, and salmon, fajitas and prawns in chilli and garlic oil for mains. The food itself, while not fabulous, was certainly edible, and although portions were extremely small, I guess for 13.95 a head, that is to be expected. Service was pleasant but rushed. This is a perfectly adequate restaurant if you fancy a quick cheap bite, but don't expect any more than that.

Millers Pizza Kitchens

Millers Pizza Kitchens

The pizza here is unbelievable. OK, the negative first: the pizza base was just alright, have certainly had better. However, Millers is all about the toppings, and believe me, they are so good, you won't care about the base! I had Thai Chicken, my fellow diner had Caribbean Jerk Prawn, and both were fabulous. And as for the quantities - I have never left a restaurant feeling as full, and we skipped starters and deserts! Our waitress was lovely: friendly, chatty and charming. Prices are possibly a little bit steep for pizza, but then, this is not exactly your standard pizza. Yum!

Ciao Bella Roma

Ciao Bella Roma

This is a restaurant which can vary dramatically... have had fabulous meals here and very mediocre meals here. The early bird is excellent value for money. And includes a glass of wine. The prawn linguine is fabulous, worth a visit alone. Yet service is always average, and lack of consistency means this place only scores 3 stars

Yamamori Noodles

Yamamori Noodles

One of my all time favourites! The food here is consistently good, have never been disappointed by it. The Spicy Tuna Tataki is absolutely to die for, the Yakisoba is always brilliant, I am completely addicted to their sushi, and would recommend any - or all! - of their Ramens. Service is generally good, and prices are very reasonable indeed. I could eat here every night of the week!

In a word, wow. Have eaten here twice in the past week, and both experiences were equally impressive. First time there were 3 of us, we all had sushi, and all agreed it was delicious. The second time, I again had sushi, my companion had Yakisoba, and again, both were fantastic. Decor is lovely! It can get a bit loud and echo-y, but I can live with that for the quality of the food. Prices are extremely reasonable. Highly recommended.

Gotham Cafe

Gotham Cafe

Everything about Gotham Cafe is average, and a little bit boring. The service was purely functional: not bad, but certainly nothing special. The food - 2 mains, chicken and pizza - was again, functional: filled the gap, tasted okay, definitely nothing to get excited about. Combined with the total lack of atmosphere, not really an experience to be repeated.

TGI Friday (St Stephens Green )

TGI Friday (St Stephens Green )

Never again! OK, I understand that with 'restaurants' like this, expectations should be lower, but I generally expect my dinner to be edible... Food was cold, chewy, and seriously looked to have been cooked hours ago. Yes, it has the lively atmosphere going on, and the staff are friendly, but that by no means makes up for the inedible - and ridiculously overpriced - slop they serve up. If you must go, and I would really advise against it, stick to burgers, they seem to be the only thing TGI's manage to not completely brutalise.

Cornucopia Whole Food and Vegetarian Restaurant

Cornucopia Whole Food and Vegetarian Restaurant

The food here is good enough to convert anyone to vegetarianism! This restaurant totally dispels the myth that vegetarian food is bland and boring... my carnivorous dining companion loved it! The only downfall is the bottleneck serving area - I have been trampled there by hungry patrons several times, and one would assume that as vegetarians, they would extend their compassion to fellow humans! The staff are friendly and helpful, and prices extremely reasonable - my super filling dinner didn't cost much more than a McDonalds, but was much better for the body - and the conscience!
