Oliver St John GogartysPosted on 27 April 2012
Since moving to Dublin I had purposely avoided Temple Bar area for food on the advice of locals but thought I would give it a chance. All my worst fears were realised in this experience.
The pub below had such loud music that you could feel the vibrations through the floor. Despite the restaurant not being busy the service was non-existent and diners were placed on tables extremley close to each other so it was a squeeze to get out.
I had Irish Stew which was water, flavourless and made with poor quality meet. My friend enjoyed her fish and chips but the vegetables served on the side for all meals were truly horrible and overdone.
I had to go and find a member of staff to request our bill (all staff were very unfriendly) and was glad to leave.
Never again.

Millstone, A Dublin RestaurantPosted on 19 April 2012
I booked a table at Millstone based on its central location and straight forward menu (my dining companion was a picky eater).
The restaurant looks lovely inside though space it perhaps a little at a premium. The menu is simple and straight forward though it is not clear whether the early bird menu is available later at a different price. Also having live music in an eating venue (especially a small one) was not a good choice by management in my opinion.
I had the salmon with a shellfish crust which was average and a little bland whilst my friend had the irish stew which she was a big fan of.
Overall a good experience though, a restaurant that does what it says on the tin at a reasonable price.

SalamancaPosted on 27 March 2012
Salamance is a really nicely laid out restaurant and, unlike many venues in Dublin, has decent sized window so you are not sat in the half darkness. We were sat by the window looking out at the church.
The food was mostly gorgeous, especially the monk fish wrapped in ham, so I would happily return again just to try other things on the menu. The paella was a little bland but soon perked up when sauce from the andalucian meatballs was added.
The only let down was poor service, the restaurant was not busy but it was difficult to get the attention of the staff and they were not helpful in terms of recommending food or describing portion sizes (important when having tapas as you do not want to order too much/little). We ended up not having coffee as it took so long to get the attention of staff. Maybe it would be better on a busier night.

Cinnamon RestaurantPosted on 22 March 2012
The first impression was not great as they did not seem to have a record of the booking but after that the service was quick, efficient and friendly.
The decor and atmosphere is really cosy and interesting and there is plenty of room to spread out.
The starters are fairly basic but tasty, I had hummus which was lovely though literally just hummus and 3 slices of bread. I had the breast of chicken as a main which was also very tasty, if a little dry. The potato dauphinoise were beautiful and my dining companion enjoyed the moroccan meatballs. The portions were on the small side though.
However, note it is a wine bar and as such that is the only alcohol they sell. My request for lager was laughed off, which was slightly condescending.
All in all an enjoyable experience but I think I would only go there again for a light informal meal or snacks.

ely winebarPosted on 14 March 2012
Ely Winebar is a cosy intimate restaurant but unfortunately neither the food or service matched up to the decor. I had the monkfish risotto, which was oily, greasy and generally lacking in flavour, followed by the chocolate/macaroon/nougat selection which was no different to buying a box of chocloates at the local Tesco. By 10:30pm the staff had either disappeared or were tidying up around us.
Generally the staff were friendly and the monkfish was nicely cooked but I wouldn't revisit the restaurant by choice. For the price and how it was marketed I expected more.
