We ate here for our Valentines meal out. The restaurant had a special on and the place was packed out. They had plenty of staff on and the service was very good. I like the way they arranged the tables so you weren't sitting directly next to another twosome and we just had an absolutely brilliant night.
The food was elegant and perfectly cooked the whole way through the meal. We ate venison which was on the Valentines menu and it was just gorgeous.
Very happy with the price, we've paid more money for less and would definitely go to eat in Scholars again.

One of the chefs was sick. I booked the table that day and was not advised of this. The remaining chef was expected to provide the catering for the 15 or so tables that were seated. Unfortunately the starter took 1.5 hours to arrive and the mains arrived a little over 2 hours after we ordered. We were not told of the problem in the kitchen until we had been waiting for 1.25 hours, we would have left if we had been told earlier and returned at a later date as I had a voucher to use.
The food was mediocre and little cold.
I liked the Purty Kitchen decor but the atmosphere was unfortunate due to the numbers of tables waiting extreme lengths of time to eat and the extremely loud band which wasn't needed to be so loud as there wasn't enough people in the bar.
I could go on about sticky tables and the flat coke in our drinks but I think it is evident that the night was a complete disaster. The only saving point being the absolutely excellent waitress who ended up serving us after our initial waitress disappeared.
Poor management is the main reason why the evening was ruined. There's so many chefs out of work presently, they could have found someone to give the poor chef a hand.
