Wrights Findlater Howth

Wrights Findlater Howth

Had a Groupon. It was $45 for 2 lobster dinners, 2 sides, 2 glasses of prosecco, which was basically 1/2 price as the lobster alone was 36.50, and well worth the "regular" cost. Starters were good - I had the soup of the day and guest had the goat's cheese. They were promptly served by a friendly wait staff. For mains, I splurged on the Lobster. my guest had the surf & turf. Both of us were pleasantly surprised by how quickly they came out of the kitchen. The lobster was a bit small, but it was perfectly prepared and cut open so I didn't have to make a huge mess cracking open like at some places where they're served whole. This meant the best bits were readily available to nibble. Prosecco was nice, but the margaritas were tasty. Almost could have had more than what I did! Good thing I had someone with me to drive home!

The Gallery Restaurant at the Church

The Gallery Restaurant at the Church

Posted on 10 September 2011
Went here as part of a work team event. I'd been here before and wasn't overly impressed with the food or the cocktails, but the folks I work with really wanted to go. I personally love the atmosphere of the Church, and find the use of the building and the main pipe organ features to be a brilliant "recycle" of an otherwise disused building. The lighting they've selected is also charming as it adds a sort of intimate mood to the entire place. The food value wise to me, was okay. The group had a choice of either a starter or dessert and a main. For the cost (35 euro a person) I would have expected at least one drink to be included, but it wasn't. So, figure ~40 a person which made me glad that I wasn't paying for the chicken dish that I had. The portion was reasonable but for a side & thigh, a bit of mash, and a handful of veg as well as a piece of apple tart a-la-mode, I would have expected more around 25 a person. I note that they are advertising to tourists, which is fine, but I'm not sure what there is to say for the tourists - who could have cheaper food, at the same quality and similar atmosphere somewhere else.

Ming Court Chinese Restaurant

Ming Court Chinese Restaurant

They do the best Chinese take away in Blanchardstown. I'm always pleasantly surprised by the quality of the ingredients and how tasty the food is - as well as how friendly the staff are when on the phone. Last night, we ordered the grilled dumplings, spring rolls, wan tun soup and chicken chow mein. I had plenty to eat and enough left over to take home for the next day. The person with me ordered yak sung (so tasty!) and satay beef and was delighted with the quality and how tasty they were.

Eddie Rockets (Blanchardstown)

Eddie Rockets (Blanchardstown)

Eddie rockets is your typical busy fast food diner, with speedy service despite the wait. The burgers are costly when compared with BK or McD's, but they're usually more tasty and much more customised to what I'm used to. They also have better quality buns than any fast food joint. My favourite part of Eddie rockets by far is that they have proper root beer and they make excellent shakes. I'm in love with their oreo cookie shake (ask for it in chocolate ice cream).

I was impressed to find this little local tapas bar in the superquinn shopping center. They're rather dark, and have a fabulous atmosphere. The food is delicious even if it's a bit pricy. It's just what Blanchardstown needs to add to its collection of pubs and cafes. I recommend the calzone and also the roasted chicken (which is surprisingly de-boned!).

The Bell Pub & Restaurant

The Bell Pub & Restaurant

Local pub, decent menu. I really love their weekend carvery which is served in the back room. There's so much food on it it's hard to finish. As a side note - locals know that they can order the daily roast (which isn't on the menu) and/or have a half order of the daily roast and not go away hungry. Friendly bartenders and weekend music make this a nice place to hang out when you're not wanting to head into the city.

The Porterhouse (Parliament Street)

The Porterhouse (Parliament Street)

I brought my parents here while they were in town on a week visit. They don't drink, but I insisted that we could go here - with lively music, over 200 different beers on tap and good food they surely could find something of interest. Despite their protests about going to a "pub", they had a great time, enjoyed both the food (the ham sandwich and soup is enormous) for the value - you don't go away hungry - that's for certain. I even managed to get them to try a few of the beers on tap, with their favourite being the locally brewed strawberry beer.

Was booked in here as part of a Hen night. I have to say that I would much rather have stayed at the pub. While the food here was good as was the wine, the cocktail selection left somethings to be desired. I had the chicken, and while the pile of mashed potatoes and greens that were with it were very tasty, I found the chicken was only okay. A few of the girls found the same thing with their plates and had to send them back. I'm hoping that this was not a normal state as the place was packed and the others were saying they're normally quite good. I would go back if someone else paid, but otherwise, most likely not on a weekend...

I've never had Japanese food before, and a very good friend of mine talked me into going here. It's a bit pricey based on the fact that I ordered mostly starters as my meal. While I didn't try the sushi, I did have some of the tofu steak, 2 kinds of gyoza dumplings, and the tempura shrimp. It was delicious and I'm eager to try this place again. Oh - also, if you get the chance, have the plum wine and/or plum wine coctails. They're lovely!

I come here often because I live close by and they are for sure value for money. Inside it's a little bit diner ish, but the food is good and the service is decent. For a local place that has just expanded to include the Tapas bar next door (enter through the Tapas bar) it's good fun and close to home.

Louies Bistro

Found this via City Deals, which they had extended through the end of July. I had the Duck, my partner had the steak for the 4 euro suppliment. Because service was brilliant and the food was so tasty, We went so far as to splurge on dessert, coffee, and an aperatif - something that rarely happens. I am certainly going back and would recommend this small restaurant nugget for a classy romantic dinner, a upscale business meeting, or just someplace to show off as a shining example of local cuisine away from Temple Bar.

My first time at this restaurant, and it's become a new favorite! While some of the dishes are quite pricey, their Early Bird Menu - served until 7pm offers several more reasonable choices for the budget conscious. Some would say that this isn't true "New Orleans" style food, and there are a few dishes that I would agree with the assessment on. Having grown up in the deep south, however, the hot wings with blue cheese dressing, Meat Gumbo, Lula Mae Jumbalaya, and corn bread were right on to what I would have had at home in South Georgia and/or Mobile, Alabama.(Stick to your ribs, Soul FOOD!) I will also state they had hush puppies - which, at first glance I thought "these aren't hush puppies" because they were flat compared to the round nuggety goodness that I was used to. Upon the first taste, though, they were the right flavor - despite the odd pancake style look on them, so kudos on making the flavor right despite the difference in preparation. For me, this was a taste of home cooking that I'd been missing, for which the key lime pie was the absolute must have finale with a coffee. I will for sure be going back, and keeping an eye out for another Living Social or Groupon Voucher.

Purchased a living social deal voucher for this restaurant for the steak on a stone and was a bit worried as I had not heard great things about the restaurant. That being said, once I found the place (it's fairly small and almost directly across from the spire) I was pleasantly surprised. The inside is small, but has nice decor and good warm atmosphere. They offered us a delicious white wine and we had very tasty bruschetta for starters. The 15 Euro steak on a stone was stunning - the quality of the meat was wonderful and it was cooked to perfection. The wedges that came with it were tasty as well. I'm going back for sure, and would reccomend this as a little romantic stop on the way to the theater.
