The quality of both food and service I received when I dined was very, very poor. The menu is far too over priced and I felt ripped off when leaving.

Was very impressed with my visit to Balzac. When you walk in the restaurant is beautiful and there is a wonderful flower display in the middle of the restuarant. The food was the best part of the meal. The service was also very good. Overall it was a very enjoyable evening.

After hearing some good things I decided to go for dinner with a friend. This restuarant is fantastic value for money. For starters he had a cured meat platter and I had a cashel blue cheese and black pudding salad. Both were good. Main course brought fish and chips, and the beef burger. The fish was very nice but I did not enjoy the chips as much as my friend. His burger was beautiful and the homemade ketchup was fantastic. For dessert I had a chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. The brownie was pretty good but the ice cream was fantastic. My friend had a smoothie which was also good. The total meal plus a cappucino and soft drink came to €47. Absolutley fantastic value for money and would recommend to anyone.

Overall the service was good. There was one waiter who was extremely friendly and attentive. There was 2 and we decided not to have starters. For mains she had duck which was pretty good. I went for beef and prawn noddles. The dish was let down by the food soaked in sauce. We both had desert. I went for chocolate fondant which was pretty good. She went for something that looked interesting on the menu but when it came out it was basically over sweetened creme brulee. She did not eat much of it. The restuarant manager came to clear our deserts and did enquire how was hers. She did say that she did not like it but he made no effort to apologise or ask to have it replaced. Upon the arrival of the no both desserts remained on the bill as did the coffee which we had. Total bill was €65 for 2 main courses, half bottle of wine €15, two desserts and two coffees.
