Masterson's Steak House & Wine BarPosted on 07 May 2010
I stumbled across Masterson's while out in swords with a friend. We were enticed in by the early bird specials on the board outside (particularly the seabass). First impressions were good, busy atmosphere and pleasant decor. It went downhill form there! The menu was not the same as the one outside - no seabass! We decided to go for one starter to share - that waiter assured us the portions were big and then out came 5 chicken wings on a plate! For mains we ordered scampi & chips with tartar sauce and a twist of lemon. 20 mins later out came a plate of deep fried scampi no lemon no tartar sauce when I asked the waiter he didn't even know what tartar sauce was! Very disappointing meal - well, apart from the chips - they were ok!!

KohPosted on 17 November 2009
I had heard great reports about Koh and finally got to see what it was like for myself. The interior is stunning - it was extremely quiet but it was a Monday night!! The pre/post theatre menu is great value with a decent selection although we had to specifically ask for it. I was a bit disappointed with my starter - Chicken Satay Kebabs, only one of them was actually chicken, the other 2 were lamb). It wouldn't have been too bad only one of them was under-cooked so I couldn't eat it. For mains I had Red Beef Curry - no complaints with this one!! Next time i will go on a busy night for some atmosphere!!

The Port HousePosted on 18 September 2009
Myself & two friends went here for diner yesterday evening. It is a small space and it was pretty busy but we managed to get seats at the end of a long sharing table. I really liked the interior and the atmosphere - stone wall and candles everywhere - very authentic and romantic if you were on a date!!
We ordere 3 dishes each - which was more than enough!! I had the black pudding with chickpeas, spinach, pine nuts & onions - it didn't look very appetising when it came out but tasted delicious. My friend realy liked the prawns in pil pil sauce, I also had small sausages on skewers which were tasty. The seafood paella was disppointing but everything else was nice.
We were waiting a little while for our food but i really enjoyed the whole experience!!

SalamancaPosted on 14 August 2009
I had been itching to try this restaraunt for a while as i had heard good things. On arrival we were seated at quite a small table for 3, it was more like a table for 2.There was a great choice on the menu we all picked 2 dishes each. We enjoyed our food some things more than others. The service was ok. I would go back to sample some more off the menu and hopefully get better service and a bigger table next time!!

Green NineteenPosted on 14 August 2009
A great place to escape from the recession!! Value for money is second to none at this trendy eatery. The atmosphere is relaxed and chilled out as are the staff. Booking a table would be adviseable, we had to sit out on the terrace (our own faults really) but we were glad to get a table at all. Daily pinchos were ok, nothing to write home about. My main of lamb chump tagine with cous cous was delicious followed bay a nice rhubabrb crumble with the most delicious mojito flavoured ice-cream!! Bill came to €43 for a starter to share, 2 mains, a desert, a beer and a tea...great value.

Blue River Bistro Bar @ MV Cill AirnePosted on 22 June 2009
I went here with some friends on a lovely sunny afternoon. We had reserved a table but the restaurant was a little dark so we sat out on the deck in the sunshine. The barfood menu is limited but i think it has something to suit everyone. I had the seafooselection. I was very pleased with the array of seafood i received...oyster, smoked salmon, poached salmon, prawns, mussels...wonderful and very reasonably priced (brown bread was a bit like saw dust which was a pity). However my friend was a little disappointed, she had the fish cakes which were very overpriced for what she got compared to my seafood platter. I had the baileys cheesecake for dessert which was totally bland. A little bit hit a miss but a novel experience.

Avenue Cafe & RestaurantPosted on 22 June 2009
I took my family to this trendy little cafe/restaraunt on Saturday. I have been a couple of times and always enjoyed my experience. I had the steamed mussels to start, which were very tasty followed by the pesto burger with fries. The burger was nice but i found it hard to eat because the bun just crumbled when i tried to pick it up. The fries were also good...thin cut and really crispy!! Everyone enjoyed their meal. I will just say one thing, the sausages could have had more meat and less bread in them!! Oh and if you are ordering the chicken wings which are good, one portion will do two people as a starter!!

Le Bon CrubeenPosted on 16 June 2009
I had a very pleasant experience at Le Bon Crubeen yesterday evening. I found the staff very friendly and the atmosphere very warm and welcoming. The menu was great, a good selection but not too much and the prices were very reasonable indeed for what we got. I had the bangers and mash which was lovely the caramelised onion was delicious the only thing i would say is the gravy lacked a little flavour. My friend had the scallop and asparagus risotto which was lovely too, nice delicate flavour. To finish we had the baileys bread and butter pudding...all in all I was very satisfied with my meal and would definitley go back.

Elephant & CastlePosted on 15 June 2009
I went here on Saturday for brunch. We got there just before the lunch time rush so we got a table straight away. Of course we had to have the chicken wings...they were delicious as usual...couldn't fault them. Portion size was good but it would want to be for the price. I had the crab cakes with poached eggs and hollandaise and I must say it was disappointing. The white of my eggs were very runny which totally put me off and the crab cakes weren't the best either. My friend had an omlette which was nice but i could have cooked it better myself. If it weren't for the wings I would have been very disappointed!!

Millstone, A Dublin RestaurantPosted on 13 May 2009
I've been wanting to go to the Millstone for a while I really liked the menu and thought the all day early bird sounded great!! So I finally go to go...I had the seafood chowder to start which was delicious very rich and creamy and with plenty of seafood, a little too filling though!! I had the mushroom tart to follow which wasn't bad but it wasn't what I was expecting and I was full after about 2 bites...Overall I loved the atmosphere, the service was a tad slow but I would definitley return to the Millstone.

SabaPosted on 12 May 2009
The most authentic thai food i've had since being to thailand. I tend to be disappointed with thai food over here. Good selection. I had the masaman curry, tasted pretty authentic but a little overpowering after a while. Would definitley go here again to sample some more from the menu.
