The Fern House Cafe at Avoca KilmacanoguePosted on 26 April 2011
We were a group of 6 for a birthday meal celebration. Service was excellent, friendly, knowledgable about the products & wine, presentation of food was great.
Parking is always a tough one in avoca especially on a busy bank holiday, however there is the overflow carpark wtih only a short walk to the restaurant.
For a Veggie the options are great and not just limited to one option like in some places. Waitress continued to refill the water jug without having to be asked. I liked that way that even though it is an open plan restaurant, you can still have an intimate meal without being overlooked by your neighbours due to clever little plant locations!
Least fav thing would be that there is only one WC nearby otherwise having to walk through the Avoca shop to get to the other ones!

Talavera RestaurantPosted on 06 November 2009
Was at a wedding here and WOW I loved it. Im trying to not give 5 out of 5 for everthing, but I cant find anywhere they fell down. my whole experience with staff, facilities, food & drink was exceptional. Just what I would expect and demand from a 5 star hotel. Meal was lovely and catered for the Veges amongst us. the Meat lovers were veryy happy with Fillet of beef, selection of desserts were amazing, really tasty and perfect portions. Service is really good here, which surprised me as I have been in really bad places that claim to be 4/5 star hotels. Breakfast was yummy and a great selection. Cost of drinks seemed a tad high but then again you pay for what you get, lovely surroundings and superb service. Very impressed with the Manager on Duty, very capable and a brilliant rep for the Raddisson Group. Will defo go back and stay.

Hunters HotelPosted on 06 November 2009
Went for a Luncheon without reservation and staff were very welcoming and accomodating. Had a drink in the bar while our table was being prepared and gave us time to peruse the menu. The roaring fire was just lovely on the cold day and the bowl of crisps and peanuts with our drinks was a nice detail.
Vege meal wasnt on the menu but the chef organised cous-cous with roasted veg in a homemade basil pesto and a side salad, starters was a gorgeous carrot and coriander soup with home made brown scones - delish! My aunt had baked trout for starters and salmon for mains.
Desserts were very tempting, I had cheese platter which was tasty and a 6 vareities of Irish/Wicklow cheeses, my aunt had a creme caramel which could have been better. But the charm and everyhting else makes up for a flopped creme caramel!
Staff are excellent, the lady of the hotel is a character and the hotel is full of olde world charm. More suitable to bring your parents or travelling aunts/uncles than a meal with freinds, but I love it. when the weather is fine, the garden are truly lovely and peaceful, full of colour, charm and wonderful scents.

LJ's Bar and Restaurant @ Louis Fitzgerald HotelPosted on 05 November 2009
Yum Yum! im the fussiest vege out there and generally either dont go out or go to italians cuz I used to think that NO-ONE could mess up a pizza??!!..... anyway I had a delicious tartlet with goatscheese and basil for starters and a yummy risotto for main. Probably was too much on my plate, but himself was happy as he got finish it along with his Duck starters and Lamb main.
Couldnty decide on the yummy desserts so I asked for a simple ice cream selection as I was full at that stage! All in all I was surprisingly impressed by this funky hotel. Thought it would be full of suits, but the atmosphere was friendly and buzzing, even though i went for an early bird.
Impressed with the wine menu also and the waitress was able to recommend a wine with my beetroot risotto, which went down a treat! :) Would go back.....PUT MORE VEGE MEALS ON THE MENU!!
