Cumiskeys

Cumiskeys

Posted on 16 April 2013
Went for a carvery in Cumiskeys pub last sunday and here you get good food which is very good value. Its only €12 euro for either beef, turkey and ham or salmon with all the trimmings so it caters for all tastes. You also get a large portion which is really good value, my only criticism was it was a warm sunny Sunday but they had a large fire in the middle of the pub which made the place uncomfortably hot but I would go back and hopefully the fire wouldnt be on.

Monart Destination Spa and Hotel

Stayed in the Monart last week and dined in their fabulous restaurant and the food was amazing. The restaurant itself is gorgeous with large white seats that are so comfortable. I had the foie gras to start which was delicious, then the monk fish for mains and the chocolate fondant for desert all of which were faultless. The service here is second to none, the waiting staff are professional, courteous and not a bit intrusive, overall a fabulous experience, cant wait to return.

The Brass Monkey

The Brass Monkey

Friends brought us to this fab restaurant last Saturday night and we really enjoyed our night. The place has a great buzzy feel to it and the decor is really nice. The food is amazing, we started with spring rolls, pate and calamari all of which were delicious. For mains we went for half lobster salad (which was great value at 19 euro), scallops, monkfish and a burger. Shared two deserts (cheesecake and banoffi) and finished off our meal with piping hot coffees. I couldnt find one fault with this fab place, it was my first time there but definitely not my last, cant wait to return.

I eat in Kays anytime I visit Blanchardstown Shopping Centre and its a great little cafe. I have tried the wraps/soups/salads and always enjoy their food. The staff are always pleasant and the place is nearly always packed, which I think is a great sign so i would definitely recommend the place.

The Orient

The Orient

Posted on 08 October 2012
I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant, its my favourite chinese restaurant ever. I visit here a lot at the weekend and enjoy their three course meal for €16.80, which is excellent value. Last thursday four of us decided to go out for yet another great meal and when we arrived couldnt believe that during the week the three course meal is only €15.00, unbelievable value. I have never had a bad meal in this place (nor has any of my friends or family), the food is delicious and the staff are the friendliest, nicest people around. So if you want gorgeous, great value chinese food with great waiting staff you HAVE to try the Orient, you wont be disappointed.

Visited the Bell pub last Sunday for a quick bite to eat and we both have the carvery dinner. Had the ham and the roast beef both of which were very nice and great value also. The place was absolutely packed, there seemed to be two celebrations going on so there was hundreds of children running around the place because of this I couldnt wait to get out. I wouldnt be in a rush to return but I couldnt fault the food.

La Banca Ristorante

La Banca Ristorante

Posted on 18 September 2012
Decided to try La Banca restaurant last Sat as hadn't been there in years and was so glad I did. We arrived at 6oc and the place was quite empty but it indeed did fill up quite quickly. The staff are lovely here, we ordered the pate and the prawns to start and both dishes were gorgeous. We then had the shank of lamb and a spinach pasta dish which were both, again, delicious. Finished off with two hot expressos and also had a lovely, very cold (which I love) bottle of white wine. Overall very pleased with our meal and will definitely return soon.

Saba

Saba

Posted on 24 July 2012
Four of us went for dinner in Saba for my daughter's birthday last Sunday, was really looking forward to this as heard great reports regarding this restaurant. The place itself is really lovely with great lighting and a great atmosphere. We had the set menu for 24 euro and it is great value. Had duck rolls, chicken wings and calamari for starters all of which was delicious and great portions. Then the hake, yellow prawn curry and beef for mains, again really nice food. Barely managed to have the desert which was chocolate brownie, chocolate tart or portion of ice cream as we were all quite full. My own criticism would be the staff, we had one smart/grumpy waiter but he didnt ruin the experience for us, hopefully next time we will get a nicer waiter/waitress because we will return.

Dehli Darbar (Celbridge)

Hadnt been to Dehli Darbar in over a year as the last time we were there the service was not good but decided to give it another try last Friday. We arrived at 6oc so the place was quite empty, we ordered our meal and the waitress this time was lovely (obviously a new addition to the restaurant). We had the prawns and the tandori aloo for starters, then prawn tikka masala and lamb saag for mains which were delicious. Along with two expressos and a bottle of lovely white wine the bill was very reasonable. So glad they have upped their game with proper waiting staff because the food here was always delicious.

Castello Bruno

Castello Bruno

Posted on 20 July 2012
Went for a family dinner to Castello Bruno and had such a lovely evening. It was a double celebration, my elderly Mother's birthday and also exam results. I rang ahead and asked could I bring two cakes and this was no problem. When we arrived the staff were nice, friendly and efficient. We all had various starters (tiger prawns, pate, bruschetta all of which were delicious. Had pizzas, pastas and one chicken dish for mains and again all the food was lovely. The Manager then brought out the birthday cake and sang happy birthday to my Mother (which she loved) and then brought out the second cake. He then sliced up the cake in eight pieces which we had for deserts with piping hot coffees. Overall we all agreed that the staff made our dinner extra special and the atmosphere, food and value for money was quite impressive. Well done Castello Bruno, looking forward to our next visit.

Went for an early dinner last Sat and had a lovely meal. It was quite a while since I had last ate here and really enjoyed the experience. We went for the early bird menu, which is great value at 18 euro for 2 courses. We had the fish cakes and brie to start, which were both delicious, then the shank of lamb and the chicken pasta, again gorgeous. We shared one desert, which was to die for (the Avenue mess) and finished with piping hot expressos. This restaurant always has a great atmosphere, even at 4pm on Sat afternoon, looking forward to returning.

The Unicorn Restaurant

The Unicorn Restaurant

Posted on 21 May 2012
Myself and my friend went for an early bird to the Unicorn last Friday, it had been a long time since I dined there so was looking forward to it. When we arrived (6oc) I was very surprised at how empty the place was, a definite sign of the times as this place used to be packed on a Friday night even if it was early. The early bird is good value at 20 euro, we had poached pear salad and calamari to start which were very nice, then chicken and the hake and although the portions were very small it was enough for us and quite tasty. Had a bottle of wine and 2 expressos and the bill came to 67.50 euro. The only down side of the meal was the hovering waiting staff, we had just taken two sips of our wine when they were back to the table filling our glasses up again. In fairness when we said we wanted our bottle left on the table and we would pour ourselves, that did stop but when we finished our starters and mains our plates were taken away at such speed it was incredible. Wouldnt be in a rush to return as there was little atmosphere in the place and the hovering of the staff was quite off putting.

I cannot praise this restaurant enough, I have NEVER got a bad meal here and the staff are amazing, so friendly, polite and helpful. Well done Milano's, keep up the good work.

Twist Cafe

Posted on 26 March 2012
Went for dinner in Twist last Sat and was a little disappointed. This place is great for a cheap night out as you can bring your own wine and usually the food is quite food. We booked for 7pm, the place was quite empty but did fill up over the night. We ordered two tapas to start the pate and the mini bruschetta, the pate was delicious but the bruschetta was freezing cold, it had obviously been made a lot earlier in the day and wasnt nice at all. We then had the calamari and the pan fried tiger prawns with a side of chips. Again the prawns were lovely but the calamari was overcooked and the accompanying sauce was very strange indeed, didnt like it at, chips were also disappointing as were very chunky and some not cooked properly. Did have some lovely hot coffees after but overall wasnt impressed and wouldnt be in a hurry to return.

It had been a very long time since I dined in Greenes but was in Maynooth on a tuesday and decided to have an early bird. I hadnt booked a table cos didnt think it would be that busy so couldnt believe how busy it was. There is a great deal on, two courses with a glass of lovely wine for 17 euro. We had the Bruschetta and the chicken wings to start which were gorgeous, then the ricotta & spinach pasta and a pizza both equally delicious. Since the last time we were there the place has been completely revamped and now everything about this place is fantastic. There is great value for money, great food and great staff. Well done Greenes, keep up the good work, cant wait to return.

Had a meal here before going to a show in the Grand Canal theatre and was a little disappointed. Had read the good reviews on the site but I didnt think it lived up to the standard I was expecting. The place was jammed, just got the last table beside the door (which was quite draughty, they really should think about putting a screen inbetween the large door and the tables). There were four of us and we all had different mains, I had the salmon, which in fairness was nice, had 2 pavalovas and 2 macaroon deserts which were again 'nice' but there is no value for money here it is quite expensive. And my huge pet hate had to be the horrible wine glasses, dreadful short, water like glasses and when I asked the waitress had she any other ones she curtly replied NO. Anyway would definitely not be in a hurry back, thought it was far too expensive for what you got and PLEASE get rid of the horrible wine glasses.

Picaderos Argentinian Grill & Spanish Restaurant

Couldnt wait to try this new restaurant in Maynooth so booked a table for 7oc, when we arrived the place was quite empty but it did fill up very quickly which made the atmosphere great. Decided to try the tapas and had been to another tapas restaurant so told the waiter we would order 2, then another 2, then another 2 and that we would like a little delay in between courses. The waiter was quite pleasant and agreed so we had the sardines and meat balls first which were OK, my sardines were very very oily but edible. After this it all went downhill for me, there were three different waiters who obviously did not communicate with each other because the three of them kept coming over to the table asking "were we ready to order" on several occasions. We did have another two tapas (the calamari and the prawns) which were again very very oily but OK. After several interruptions regarding our next order we decided to leave, very disappointing indeed, we wanted to have a very relazing night taking our time over lots of different tapas and enjoy our wine but the lack of communication between the waiting staff ruined it for us. The restaurant itself is decorated lovely and the food was OK but wont be returning unless I hear the staff have been trained to listen to the customer.

We ordered from their value menu €15.25 for two courses (which is amazing value) had mozzeralla and tomatoe salad and the garlic mushrooms to start, then two gorgeous pizzas with delicious potatoe wedges on the side. We also had a small bottle of wine which was great cos find the large bottle a little too much. Had no room for deserts, cant say enough good things about this restaurant, food is fantasic, great value for money and the staff are amazing, we will definitely be back. Well done Bits and Pizzas.

Visited Milano's yesterday with my family, I think I have been to every Milano restaurant in Dublin at this stage and the food never disappoints. We had 4 pizzas and one lasagne, all equally delicious and then 5 deserts with coffee. I have never had one bad meal in any Milano restaurant but the staff are always hit and miss. Yesterday there was very few people in the restaurant, as it was quite early, but still the service was slow. We had to wait an age to order and then when we ordered the deserts I thought the waiter had forgotten all about us but eventually he returned with them. Overall this wouldnt be my favourite Milano (I think the one in Baggot Street is the best) but you just cant fault the food, so if your in the area try it but you wouldnt want to be in a hurry!!

Chapter One Restaurant

Chapter One Restaurant

Posted on 08 September 2011
After waiting two months for a table for two in Chapter One was very excited when we arrived last Friday. We were greeted by the most wonderful gentleman, so welcoming, pleasant and witty who seated us at the bar. We were given the menu and ordered a bottle of chablis wine. Went for the 4 course dinner menu, firstly both of us got the ravioli which was delicious, then the butter cod and the duck. A little disappointed with the cod, thought it was lacking in flavour but the duck was lovely but tiny. Next was the beef & the halibut both equally delicious only thing was very small portions. I had the Carageen for desert and this was the highlight of the night for me, it was the nicest desert I have ever tasted. Himself went for the cheese board, which consisted of 4 very small portions of cheese with crackers. Next was the chocolates and macaroons with hot expressos. The bill came to 215 euro without a tip which included two bottles of wine at 35 euro each. Overall I did enjoy my night but it was a special occasion and I wont be going back as this restaurant is far too expensive for me but do go once for the experience.

The place looked a lot better with new carpet and new tablecloths. There is also a new buffet area where there is an "eat all you can" section. We decided to stick to the a la carte, had the seafood sung which was delicious and then had 2 prawn curries, again very nice indeed with a fine bottle of Pinot Grigio wine. Finished off with two lovely coffees, there seems to be one lady managing the place and is doing a terrific job. Well done Ms. Wongs, great that the place is open again, we will be back.

Milano (Dundrum)

Milano (Dundrum)

Posted on 20 July 2011
Went to Milano's last thurs for my daughters birthday, have been to lots of these restaurants but this was our first time in Dundrum and was very disappointed. The place was packed and the staff seemed unable to cope. When we arrived it took an age to order, we eventually got our starters, the plates were left ages on the table and then the waiter came with the mains. He seemed very put out when we pointed out that the starter dishes were still on the table and we needed new cutlery, he was quite rude. Again took ages to order desert, which was only one tirimusu and 3 expressos and when this arrived the coffee was luke warm. When we eventually got the bill, we had been overcharged by ten euro for a bottle of wine. This was rectified but again the waiter wasnt a bit nice about it. The food is always gorgeous in any Milano's but the staff in Dundrum are a lot to be desired, I wont be back.

Visited Milano last Friday and I absolutely love this restaurant. I have been to many Milanos but this one is by far the best. The food is always fantastic but I think the staff here are the best. In some of the other Milanos the staff can be over the top, trying far too hard but this is not the case here. When we arrived we ordered our starters and a bottle of wine and told the lovely waiter that we would like a break before we got our pizzas and this was no problem. Two delicious pizzas arrived and then we had a semi freddo with expressos, everything gorgeous. I personally love the place for their leggera range of food, its really nice to go out for a meal and the calories are counted for you. Milano (Dawson Street)

Milano (Dawson Street)

Posted on 19 April 2011
Booked a table for 4 girls last Friday to celebrate a birthday for 7.30pm. I have been to three different Milano restaurants (and always enjoyed the experience) but this was my first visit to Dawson St. When we arrived I couldnt believe that there was so many children in the place and how very very noisy the restaurant was. I had ordered a bottle of prosecco to be on the table for our arrival and was disappointed to see that our table was right beside a table of children. These children were not being supervised at all, were running around, climbing up and down the stairs and overall being a complete nuisance. We were also very surprised to see not one of the staff said anything to the parents regarding their uncontrolled children. We had our meal (can never fault Milano food, its lovely) and towards the end of the night we were laughing quite loud but to our amazement the Manageress was over to the table like lighting telling us to keep the noise down. We couldnt believe it after the earlier experience we had had with the children right beside our table and we never complained once or said a word. We did point out to Manageress that she had said nothing to the parents that were sitting beside us regarding their unruly children but she just replied she cant give out to children. I have never heard the like, I will NEVER frequent this restaurant again, we had spent a lot of money there with bottles of processo, wine, starters, mains, deserts and thats the way we were spoken to, it was a disgrace. So if you like to go to restaurants that are frequented with uncontrolled, unruly children this is the place for you.

Went to lunch at 1oc on Wed with a party of ten people to celebrate a birthday and was very disappointed with Il Posto. When we arrived there was no one in the place but that was only to be expected for lunch time on a Wed. It took a good while for the waitress to take our order and then it took ages for our starters to arrive. We all opted for the lunch menu for 16euro so got various starters, soup, salad and anti pasta all of which were nice even though portions very small. At this stage there was only 4 other people in the restaurant but it still took ages for our mains to arrive, couldnt understand the delay. Mains were again nice but portions very very small. We had ordered the house white wine and was amazed to find out that it cost €24 which in this day and age is ridiculous, far too expensive. Ordered coffees then but one of our party had to leave as it took so long as we were all returning to work. Very disappointed with the service especially as the restaurant was nearly empty, would hate to see how they cope with a busy night. Overall we all agreed a place not to return to, much better places around with better food, better service and much better value for money especially regarding their house wine.

Visited Trocadero again early on Monday as was going to a show in the Olympia. I still think this place is so overrated and was only going back again because one of our party was treating us and just loves the monkfish here. There was six of us so we had various starters, I had the lobstor pot and was very disappointed. The consistency of the sauce was so watery, others had the goats cheese which they did enjoy. For mains of course 4 of us had the monk fish, which I must say is delicious but very expensive as it just comes with chips/potatoes, if you want veg that is all extra. Three of our party had pecan pie for desert which was very nice. The service in this establishment is very hit and miss, you either wait ages in between courses or they are hovering over the table waiting to take your plates. The toilets still need a good painting and a extra good clean, the place is just not worth it especially for the price one pays for the food.

Had ice cream for deserts and piping hot expressos which we got on the house. After our meal a karoke was starting up and really added to the atmosphere, only for we were heading out to a party, would have loved to have stayed. I cannot praise this restaurant enough, the food is delicious and the staff are delightful. Definitely the best chinese around.

The Mucky Duck

The Mucky Duck

Posted on 06 December 2010
I had heard a lot about the steak on the stone in this pub so was delighted to try it last Tuesday. Now the weather was quite bad so there was very few people in the place but gosh the food was gorgeous. There was four of us and we all ordered the steak on the stone and talk about value for money and good food, it was amazing. The steak is huge and it comes with chips/garlic potatoes, onion rings and three gorgeous dips (garlic butter, mushroom sauce and pepper sauce). It was the nicest meal I have had in ages and the waiter was the nicest man ever. This dish only costs 15 euro Mon to Tues, it must be the best value meal in the whole of Kildare. Also a lovely bottle of pinot grigio white wine is only 19 euro, if you like good value for money and good food you HAVE to try this place and order this steak, it has to be seen to be believed, well done the Mucky Duck!!!!

Went for dinner for the first time in Bellagio's last Friday and really enjoyed it. Lovely bright, clean restaurant with a clear view of the kitchen. We went for the pate and the scallops for starters both dishes were gorgeous. For mains we both had fish, I had the sea bass and my partner had the breaded lemon sole with roasted baby potatoes and a side order of mushrooms both meals again were very nice. Shared a cheese board for desert and have lovely hot expressos with a lovely bottle of pinot grigio. The staff here are fantastic, very friendly explaining the dishes and very attentive. Really enjoyed my first visit and looking forward to returning.

Rustic Stone

Booked a table in the Rustic Stone last Sunday for 3.30pm and loved, loved, loved it. When we arrived there was a great buzz in the place, we were seated at a table for two and I couldnt wait to see the menu. There is a very large choice but eventually we decided on the Minestrone with chorizo soup and crab mayonnaise to start. When they both arrived they both looked and tasted amazing. Went for the halibut with walnuts and the rib beef with the prawn glaze for mains, again both dishes were gorgeous. We loved the food coming on the hot stone and cooking it exactly the way we liked it. We also had a portion of the truffle chips, even though a small portion it was quite enough for the two of us. Unfortunately we were too full for desert so just opted for expressos which came with the most delicious little chocolate. The whole experience was delightful, it was the nicest dining experience I have had in a very long time. I cant wait to return to try some of the other dishes on offer.

Brought my parents for an early dinner last Saturday to this restaurant as we were driving through the area and it looked quite nice. I had never frequented this place before so didnt know the seating arrangements. We were put sitting at a small table with 4 armchairs around it, didnt like it at all but as I was with my elderly parents I didnt want to walk out. We had various mains Salmon, Lamb Shank and Fish Casserole all of which were quite nice and got various deserts. The nicest thing about this place is its Jaffa Cake Ice Cream, the nicest ice cream ever. The service was good also but I wont be returning unless they do something about their seating, sitting around a small table, leaning forward all the time while eating because we were sitting in arm chairs is not my idea of a nice meal out, wont be returning.

Luigi Malones Restaurant

Luigi Malones Restaurant

Posted on 17 September 2010
Visited Luigi Malones last Monday with my daughter and used my 25 euro voucher courtesy of menupages. It was 5.30pm but the place was half full so it had quite a nice atmosphere. But the food here is not very nice at all. Had the early bird deal, went for the breaded mushrooms to start which were completely overcooked, had the BBQ chicken which was just a bread roll with overcooked chicken, not nice at all. My daughter had the tiger prawn pasta which was OK but completely tasteless. She also had the pavalova for desert and it was like a rock, she was afraid it was going to fly off the table when she cut into it. On the positive side they do a lovely bottle of pinot grigio wine for half price and the waitresses were quite pleasant. Its cheap to eat here but I wont be returning, not my type of food at all.

Fallon and Byrne

Posted on 26 August 2010
Visited Fallon & Byrne last Fri and was really looking forward to going there after reading the rave reviews on this site but I was so so disappointed. The restaurant room is very large but the tables are very close together, when we arrived we were seated in the middle of the room. We ordered the two course meal for 25euro. I got the crab & creme fraiche and he got the chicken terrine both completely tasteless, my crab was so bland lacked any seasoning whatsoever and the chicken was no better. We did eat both dishes as we were very hungry and just thought the mains would make up to it. Got the hake and steak for mains, his steak was OK but it just came with a very small portion of chips, no veg and my hake was absolutely disgusting. I have never tasted a dish with such a strong vinegar taste in all my life, I barely touched it and it came with nothing. My other huge gripe was the amount of waiting staff, as we were seated in the middle of the room I was getting dizzy looking at the waiters walking in circles around us, it was totally unnecessary as it was early and the place was definitely not packed. The only good point was the atmosphere, even though it was early there was a good crowd there and it did have a good atmosphere. That is the only good thing I would have to say about the place, after the awful two course meal I couldnt wait to leave and will definitely NOT be returning. I still cannot understand the brilliant reviews this place gets, maybe I got it on a bad night but wont be giving it a second visit.

Visited Pichet for Sunday lunch for the first time and had a lovely meal. As it was sunday lunch time the place was not packed but still there was a good crowd. There were 4 of us so all had various starters I had the goats cheese to start which was delicious, the others had crab and crispy egg which were equally nice. For mains I tried the cod which again was delicious and the rest had suckling pig, sea bream and pork belly which were all gorgeous. Had no room for deserts just piping hot expressos. This place isnt cheap, especially for water (€5 a bottle) and the wine is on the expensive side also. The bill came to €210 which is a little expensive for Sunday lunch but in saying that the food here is delicious. I will definitely return at night where Im sure the atmosphere would be a lot better. But all in all had a lovely experience in this restaurant and Nick the head waiter/owner is delightful.

Visited Wilde and availed of the menupages voucher last Thursday with my daughter and had a lovely night. The food is very very nice and is very good value for money. As we booked the table for 6.30 there was only 2 other couple in the place (and its a rather large restaurant) so there was no atmosphere but a few people did trickle in after a while but would really like to return later on maybe a Fri or Sat night as Im sure the atmosphere would be much better. My only gripe was the wine was quite expensve but this is a place you would only go for a special occasion. Overall a very pleasant night with good food and wine, lovely waiters and would definitely recommend it.

Visited the Bradaun restaurant last Sunday for their 3 course lunch for 25.95. Booked a table for 4.15pm and when we arrived there was no one in the restaurant or no one to greet us, went to the hotel reception and was then brought in. Bad start I thought as I had booked in advance so they would have known they had a table booked for 4.15. Anyway ordered from the set menu which had in fairness a good choice. I had the spring rolls and my partner had the caeser salad, my dish was very nice but the dressing on the caeser salad was more like mayonnaise than anything else. Had the lamb and the steak for mains, my lamb was delicious but the steak was tough and lacked any seasoning. Had the chocolate tart and tiramasu for desert which were nice enough but very very filling. The place was empty till about 5.15 then a few people did come in but there was no atmosphere whatsoever. Food and service wasnt bad but I definitely wouldnt be running back in a hurry.

The Ivy Brasserie (Dunboyne Castle Hotel)

Posted on 23 March 2010
As Sunday was Mothers Day my daughter booked us both into Dunboyne Castle for the night with spa treatments and dinner along with 2 other ladies. We arrived at 3pm, had our treatments which were lovely and headed down for dinner at 8pm. We ordered from the special €20 menu, 3 of us had the pate and there was one soup for starters. The soup was absolutely disgusting, sent it back and the Manager came over and asked did we want a replacement but we refused. Three of us had steak and I had ordered the pan fried cod, the steaks were OK (one rare and 2 medium but they were all well done) and my cod was the most dreadful meal I have ever encountered in my life. It was supposed to be pan fried on a bed of champ but it came swimming in a watery sauce, it was definitely the worse meal I have ever had. We asked to speak to the Manager and pointed out the horrible starter and dreadful fish and she did offer me another dish but at this stage my appetite has gone completely. As it was supposed to be a special occasion we were all very disappointed as we would have liked to have had desert and take our time over another glass of wine. The Manager didnt charge us for the meal in the end but the night was ruined in my eyes. I would NEVER return to this establishment, it was the worse meal I have had in a very very very long time.

Went for dinner last Friday because I had heard this restaurant was under new management so was looking forward to trying their new menu. We arrived about 7pm and there was only a few in the restaurant which was only to be expected so I thought the service would be very swift but not so. It took a good while to order our wine and when we did we were taking our time looking at the food menu and were interrupted at least twice which really bothers me, I cant understand why waitresses want your food order immediately. We had the shredded chicked and yuk sung to start, then had the steamed scallops (which were completely tasteless) and the prawn churn bo which in fairness was quite nice. Had 2 expressos to end our meal which I thought were quite expensive( 6 euro). Overall it was quite nice but I thought as it was under new management the prices would be a little cheaper and the service would be a lot better.

Went to dinner in Eatzen last Friday and overall was a very pleasant experience. I had dined here about 2 years ago as it is a bit far to travel to from where I live but it was worth the journey. The staff are very pleasant especially the 2 waiters. Had the japanese sushi to start and it was delicious, then had the scallops for mains which were very very nice, my partner really enjoyed his meal as well. Had 2 expressos then which were accompanied by a lovely dark chocolate sweet, now I know this is a very small gesture but when you dont have desert its very nice to end your meal with something sweet so this was very pleasing. It was so good that we returned on Sun with our young son for the very good value for money 14.95 euro meal. A lovely restaurant with good deals and pleasant staff, will definitely return.

Went for a weekend stay in Knightsbrook and overall really enjoyed it. The room was fabulous (we did have the Executive Suite though) with 3 TVs huge dining area and gorgeous jacuzzi bath. We had dinner in the Rococo restaurant on the Fri which was quite nice, had foie gras for starter which was gorgeous but had the scallops for mains which were a little disappointing, overcooked and quite small. Had the cheese board for desert which again was very tasty, the only criticism was the waiter he was very grumpy indeed, we tried to engage with him but he wasnt having it at all. There wasnt many people in the restaurant so overall the place lacked atmosphere. Would defo recommend the hotel though, there was a great buzz in the place, there was two weddings on (one on Fri and one on Sat) so lots of people around, we would definitely return.

Was in town early last Saturday so decided to try Fire for an early dinner. When we arrived we were blown away with the decor, its absolutely fab. Although there was a early bird special on we decided to try the a la carte as I was dying to try their signature dish (the wood fried prawns). So I had the prawns for starter and my partner had the fish cakes. For mains my partner had the prawns and I had the fillet migion. I was a little disappointed in the prawns it was basically prawns in hot garlic oil, and the fillet steak was a little overdone even though I asked for medium. We shared the coconut and banana cheesecake for desert. This restaurant is absolutely beautiful and has the most fab round tables for large groups which I will definitely go back and try but the food is a little disappointing especially as they are charging very high prices.

I visited Mash last Friday and was really looking forward to it after reading all the good reviews on this site. But alas I was very disappointed. When we arrived we were very impressed with the place, lovely setting and lovely view from the side table where we were seated. The place was fairly empty so there wasnt much atmosphere in the place. We ordered the pate and the sea bass for starters. So disappointed in both, the pate was rock hard, it was like it had been in the fridge for too long and the sea bass was totally overcooked. For mains we both got the vension and talk about overcooked, we had ordered one medium and one medium to rare and both were well done. Underneath the vension was a load of beetroot and we got stir fried veg on the side, also very disappointing, it was like the food needed to be seasoned, everything was very bland. We did receive the complimentary sorbet (which I though was disgusting but my partner liked) and the amuse bouche, again both of us thought very bland. After being so disappointed with our starters and mains we decided not to try desert. Overall very disappointed and cannot understand all the rare reviews it has got on the site, its a place I would definitely not be returning to.

I then had the venison, it was the nicest meal I have had in a long time, beautifully presented and delicious. My partner had the sea bass which was equally nice. We shared the cheese board (even though I was very tempted to try the toberole cheesecake) again fabulous. We ended the night with two expressos which again were delicious. Asia De Brún (Maynooth)

Posted on 16 February 2009
My daughter was leaving for Australia last Sunday so we went for a meal in the new Asia De Brun last Friday and had the most disappointed night in a very long time. The place was quite full when we arrived, we were seated quickly but had to wait ages to order a bottle of wine. We had the most rude, obnoxious waitress I have ever encountered in my life. We shared the Maki Sushi for starters which in fairness were very nice but our waitress just put the plate on the table not giving us a separate plate each. We then went for the wok fried prawns and even though they were edible they were swimming in oil. At this point we tried to order another bottle of wine, after ages our rude waitress returned with a warm bottle and told us to wait while it chilled in some ice. I have never experienced anything like this in my life and even though we did wait a while after tasting it, it was still warm, it was an absolute disgrace. At this stage we asked for the bill and the Manager, we complained to him about the warm wine, the delay in service and our obnoxious waitress. Even though he was quite apologetic about the night and didnt charge us for the starter that we shared (10.80 euro) I will NEVER return. It was the worst night I have had in a very long time and was really disappointed as it was supposed to be a special occasion.

We were a little early so we had a drink at their bar which is very nice and a good place to have a look around. When we were shown to our table I didnt realise there is another huge area out their back where we were seated. I didnt like this area at all, would have much preferred to have been in the front part. Anyway we all had starters and mains which were nice but we had to wait ages to order our wine and then to order our meal because the place was absolutely packed. The food was good, the service was very bad but only because the place is huge and they obviously need more staff and quite expensive for the type of fare. Not my type of restaurant at all, far too big and busy for me.

The staff are quite friendly and the place is beautiful and they have the most amazing smoking area but its just not worth the money anymore. The food is still lovely just not worth the price in these recession times. Went for dinner last Friday to the Stonehaven and was a little disappointed. The staff are lovely here but the food isnt great. Had the prawns in filo pastry for starters, my partner had the special crab and salmon on french bread, both dishes were nice. We both had the special fish dish for main and talk about being overcooked. We had asked for a 15-20 minute delay between starter and main course and when we received the fish it had obviously been sitting under lights for ages. It was monkfish and sea bass stuffed with tiger prawns and it the whole meal was so overcooked it tasted like leather. The only good thing about it was the lovely chilli sauce that accompanied it and the chips other than that it was inedible, very disappointing. Just ordered espressos then which when arrived were luke warm and so weak, rotten. This place has a lovely atmosphere, lovely staff but the food is not up to standard at all, wont be returning.

Shack Restaurant

Posted on 21 October 2008
Went to the Shack for an early Sunday dinner last Sunday, have been to this restaurant before about a year ago and was very pleased but thought it had gone down badly this time. We ordered seafood chowder and the pate to start, the chowder was very thick but edible and my pate was quite nice but was rather like a moose pate, quite unusual texture but again edible. We ordered for our mains two shack steaks which from the menu came with a tomato, mushroom and cream sauce. When the steaks arrived the sauce was full of onions, now my partner detests onions and only ordered this steak because of the description of the sauce on the menu. When we pointed this out to our waitress (who I'm sure was the manageress) she nearly had a row with us. We asked for the menu again to confirm that it said no onions in the sauce which she gave us but still continued to argue with us saying that there are usually onions in most sauces. This argument went on for a few minutes and we were just about to say forget the whole thing when she then said we could change our steaks. At this point I actually wanted to leave because I was sure that the Chef would just have taken the horrible onion sauce off the steaks but we decided to wait and see what arrived. In fairness two steaks came to the table after about ten minutes with a lovely pepper sauce but we had another waiter at this stage it was like she didn't want to talk about the situation again. We had 2 expresses after our meal and I couldn't wait to leave the place in the end. She returned to our table when we were drinking our coffees and apologised but it was so forced. I didn't like her attitude at all, overall we did not have a nice experience and will not be returning.

Myself and my partner had the pate to start, it was absolutely delicious, the nicest pate I have ever tasted. For mains we had the garlic prawns and the beef with the Paris butter, if you go to this restaurant you just have to try this butter, it is to die for it, never tasted anything like it. Just had espressos after our mains which were lovely as well. Overall a lovely night, the only thing I would say about this place is that the staff are a little too attentive, my pet hate in restaurants is this I just wish staff would realise couples are out for a long leisurely dinner and we don't want to be rushed at all. But in fairness the food makes up for the over attentive staff, will definitely be back.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK Liffey Valley)

Visited this restaurant yesterday for the first time around 6pm after been at the movies in Liffey Valley. There was a slight queue outside so had to wait about ten minutes for a table. When we sat down we were waiting quite a while before our server asked whether we wanted drinks. We ordered a bottle of wine and one beer, the wine came to the table already opened and the server just poured, never enquiring whether we wanted to taste it, it was lucky we liked it! We then order 3 burgers, one chicken, one cheese and one cajun, was surpised that it didnt come with any chips or sauce so we ordered 3 chips and 3 sauces extra. In fairness the burgers are huge but for the price of a burger (which ranged from 10 euro approx to 14 euro) you would expect at least the sauce to accompany it. We then had 3 espressos which were lovely and hot (I hate ordering an espresso and it comes out luke warm) and at the stage we were very full. All in all it was an OK meal but the staff needs a bit more training and I wouldnt be rushing to go back for the price cos its quite expensive for just a burger and chips!

The fish was lovely as well and was accompanied by creamy mash and veg. The deserts were also very nice, we had a selection of chocolate moose, ice cream and apple strudel all equally delicious. Gordon Ramsay @ Powerscourt

I stayed at the Ritz Cartlon with my partner last Sunday (3/8/2008) and we booked dinner in Gordon Ramsay's restaurant for 8.30pm. The hotel was absolutely beautiful, the room was outstanding with a huge bed, fab baloncy with sun loungers and a spotless white marble bathroom to die for. We went down to the Sugar Loaf lounge for a predinner drink where we had 2 champagne bellinis which were 19 euro each, a bit expensive but worth it. We then went down to the restaurant and this is where it all went wrong. There were no tables for two, all tables catered for at least 4 people so I seemed to be miles away from my partner. After taking a while to decide on which course to go for (the tasting menu or the a la carte) much to the annoyance of our waitresss, we decided on the a la carte. We got the bread sticks with the cream cheese and the foie gras first which were very nice. We then got the lobster ravoli and the scallops, my 3 scallops were lovely but were accompanied by a cold sorbet which I found very strange. The ravoli was lovely but TINY. Next came the beef and the halibut, the beef consisted of two pieces, a tiny amount of sauce, about 4 button mushrooms and rocket leaves which was absolutely appalling at 49 euro. My halibut was overcooked but was accompanied by king crab which was nice but again very small. Next was the cheese board, which in fairness was the nicest part of the meal but we had to ask for more cheese as the waitress was only willing to give out 4 tiny portions. I got the chocolate cylinder with ice cream, it did look fabulous but have definitely tasted nicer desserts. We were so disappointed with the whole night, the food was OK but we were still hungry at the end of the night. The staff were not over friendly and couldnt get over the fact that we wanted a 15 minute delay between courses. Do not go to the restaurant, its the biggest rip off ever

As we don't like our main dish to come out straight after our dessert I asked our lovely waitress could we have a delay which was no problem to her. Lamb Cutlets with Garlic, Lemon and Paprika

Why not make up a large quantity of this marinade in advance – it is wonderful with cutlets and would also work well with leg steaks or loin chops. The longer you marinate the meat for, the better the flavour!
