Siam Thai (Dundrum)

Siam Thai (Dundrum)

Posted on 02 November 2012
I love Siam Thai. Its early bird menu is great value and the restaurant is always packed. I always choose chicken satay for starters followed by penang curry and was not disappointed on this occasion either. I hope to return soon however it is a bit pricey if you miss the early bird. Otherwise cant complain and also had some really nice rose wine the last time I was there.

Mao is always a safe option but is a little on the pricey side. The nasi goreng is an old time favourite however on this occasion I had the plum duck which was delicious! Will return again but not a masssive fan of all the tables on top of each other. Can often feel a bit cramped.

This is one of my favourite places to eat lunch, largely due to their spelt bread which is amazing! The Chicken caeser sambo is lovely and leaves you stuffed. All the portions are on the large side which means you never leave hungry. There is always a lot of staff on and most of them are very friendly. However often you are left waiting for a good while which makes it a tight squeeze to eat there during your lunch break. Would like to see more wheat free dessert options available. Will be returning soon.

Went here with a large group for dinner. Unfortunately we had to sit at 2 separate tables which kind of defeated the purpose of going out together. There is a great selection of pizzas and any can be made gluten free which is good however they are a bit pricy. Wouldnt be rushing back but nice if you're looking for a good pizza. I was stuffed and couldn't even finish mine. The staff weren't overly friendly.

The food is good however it is a bit pricey if you cant avail of the early bird. This was my 2nd visit in a month and both times I didnt find the staff great. They arent very attentive and you are left waiting for ages when you ask for something such as more water. It is good that they do gluten free pasta and both nights I was too full for dessert after having the chicken with red pesto, spinach, olives and cream which is particularly good. The antipasti starter is good too but would like to see gluten free bread on the menu My last visit was tainted by the loud and obnoxious table beside us. It made it hard to conduct a conversation. Both Saturday nights the restaurant was packed which is a good sign.

Today was my first time visiting this Avoca as would usually only go to the one in Kilmacanogue. Was very pleased with the standard of food though and the selection was just as good if not better than its sister restaurant. The prices are not cheap but to be fair the portions are very big and we left feeling stuffed so can't really complain. Would definately return to this bright, airy cafe if I was in the area again.

Came here for my work Christmas party. While the food was ok it was nothing to write home about so I was slightly disappointed. The steak/duck on a stone is a novel idea but both meats were quite bland in taste and my colleagues' steak looked quite fatty. The chicken wings starter was very tasty as was the deep fried brie. Wouldn't be rushing back as found the staff a bit pushy/rude. However I probably would return if I was looking for some simple pub grub. The place was packed which suggests that the food is usually better than it was on this occasion.

Went here recently for brunch as it had been highly recommended by a friend. Decided to keep it simple and ordered the burger which was of a very high standard. The place was packed so there was a good atmosphere and every second person seemed to be having the infamous chicken wings which I will definately order the next time. A good venue for a casual weekend brunch or hungover lunch!!

Went here on Friday with a large group of girls and could not fault it. The food was incredible, particularly the lamb and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Everyone agreed that it was the best food that they'd had in a long time. Will defo be returning soon as the early bird is great value for money and the standard is miles ahead of anywhere else of a similar price. Great for a birthday or special occasion.

Heard great reports about this place due to the fact that they cater for gluten/wheat allergies. and I was not disappointed. The place is bright and airy with a very relaxed vibe and the food was equally good. My Mum had an elaborate bruschetta with poached egg, asparagus and mushrooms while I had an open tomato and mozzerella sandwich on gluten free bread. The coffees were also good and the prices reasonable. My only complaint was that I was too full for dessert! Will defo return. Great to have somewhere that does both decent and wheat free food in carrickmines!

Stopped here for Sunday lunch after doing the cliff walk. The main aim was to try out the gluten free pizzas which I heard were on offer. I was not disappointed. I had the vegetarian pizza which was full of feta lumps and sundried tomato- yum. My other half had a regular pizza topped with parma ham and mozzerella. We were both extremely pleased with our choices and will defo be returning. A cold pint and live music outside made the meal even better.

Finally discovered this place after years of wondering where exactly ITSA in Sandyford was! Am a big fan of ITSA in other locations due to the availability of gluten free bagels. The quality of the food here was just as good but there is nowhere to sit (bar one bench) which is a pity. Also they left out part of our order so I had finished my bagel by the time my boyfriend got his! Its also a pity that it doesn't open on the weekend as is a handy place to pull in to grab some quick lunch. I highly recommend the Californian!

Royal Park Chinese Restaurant

Royal Park Chinese Restaurant

Posted on 19 March 2011
I would generally rate the Royal Park as the best Chinese takeaway in the greater Greystones area even though it is not the cheapest. No one can beat their satay sauce on the skewered chicken satay...its to die for! However, was left feeling a bit disappointed the other night when the delivery took over an hour and one of the items that we ordered was forgotten. After conversing with the restaurant it was eventually delivered however by then the remaining food was cold. Hopefully they will redeem themselves the next time as their initial offer to refund the item was less than satisfactory seeing as it was part of our dinner!

I visited Homans with friends last Saturday after several years away from the place. I have to say I was pleasently surprised. The hot chocolate was lovely, as was the wheat free flapjack esque cake. In fact they were so good that I returned to takeaway the pair later in the week! Thumbs up for having wheat free options, including chocolate brownies. My friends said the coffees were equally good, particularly the expressos. Their cakes also looked good and they were very large portions. My only criticism would be that the cafe is quite cramped but that said we did manage to comfortably sit 6 adults and a baby.

This a cheap and cheerful dining option in dundrum. We went there at about 10pm after work when many of the other restaurants had stopped serving. I liked the fact that there were free drink refills however the fact that you have to order at the counter is a bit Mc Donalds esque! That said the food was tasty and the staff were very helpful regarding food allergies. Beware of the chips though, they really are spicy!! I woke up gasping for water the next morning!

This is a great place to eat. The special menu is suprisingly good value given that the a la carte is quite pricey. The pate is paticularly good, as is the gluten free bread that is available with it. A wheat allergy was catered for without a problem which is refreshing and makes dining out so much easier. The wheat free pasta with seafood was also excellent as was the fish pie that my other half had. Dessert completed a lovely meal. Will definately be returning. A must for seafood lovers!

Cortina’s Mexican Restaurant

Cortina’s Mexican Restaurant

Posted on 23 May 2010
I was slightly apprehensive about visiting Cortinas after reading some of the reviews however I was pleasently surprised. I went with a group from work and we were all pleased with the decor and food on offer. The large portion fajitas with either steak or chicken which most of us chose come in at around 15 euro each. These consist of 4 pancakes, guacomole, refried beans, salsa, peppers, corn & of course the meat pieces. We also got some papa fries which were a little bit bland but were surplus to requirement anyway as the fajitas were so big. The only other qualm we had was that there didn't seem to be enough staff on and so we were often left waiting to order drinks which was a pity as the cocktail menu is quite vast. Overall I would return as the food was good. An added bonus is that there are wheat free, gluten free and dairy free menus available which is great for people with food allergies

I was looking forward to trying the Tapas here and I wasn't disappointed. 2 hungry friends and 1 shared about 9 dishes between us and we were nicely full by the time we finished eating. At 120 euro for all the food and 3 bottles of wine I felt it was excellent value and would definately return as there is also a nice atmosphere. My only criticism is that they were out of a couple of staple ingredients including mussels and strawberries which doesn't look very good considering theres a Super Valu almost next door and the dessert selection is small and very basic.

I went to Diva for for my Birthday. Granted it was a tuesday night so there was only 1 other table in the restaurant but it was still an enjoyable experience. We decided to try the 50 euro deal for 2 people. For this you get a starter, main course, coffee and a bottle of wine. I had chicken wings to start and chicken stuffed with ricotta wrapped in bacon for main. My boyfriend had deep fried mushrooms followed by steak. We were both pleased with our choices. My wheat free chocolate roulade for dessert was the perfect finish. Overall it was great value for money and I'd definately return for a cheap and cheerful meal.

My main reason for choosing this restaurant was due to the coeliac options available and i was not disappointed. The garlic bread with cheese and pesto to start was excellent and a nice opener to the gf pizza that i had to follow. In fact, the portions were so big that I had to bring most of the pizza home in order to fit in some gf apple pie for dessert! The rest of my party had pies for main course which looked delicious. The only complaint was that the pastry was a little bit thick. Their starters of chowder, mussels and crab gratin also did not disappoint and the baileys creme brulee for dessert was fab. Overall its a great place to eat with very reasonable prices and a casual/cosy atmosphere.

My Mum and I dined there last night and I can easily say that it is the best french food that I have tasted outside of France, in fact it was even better than many authentic French restaurants. The prices are quite steep although there is an early bird option for 28 euro however we were too late to avail of this. Instead we opted for the three course menu for 35 euro menu which also included a mise en bouche. We both had the trio of fish to start which comprised of a crab brulee, and a variety of smoked salmon. I then had duck with pesto, tomatoes & parmesan while my Mum had hake with fennel and leeks. The piece of fish was huge and the duck was delicious, as were the accompanying veg. For dessert we shared a creme brulee which was amazing and chose a selection of cheeses from the cheese cart...divine! Ditto to the last reviewers re: the wine. It was lovely. Will definately return when I visit this part of the country again.

I agree with the last user who said that it is not really a great place. Its fine if you're just looking for a coffee but don't expect much else. The lunch menu is very basic as are the selection of snacks. Also, they claim to have gluten free options for sandwiches but I have asked on numerous occasions only to be told that they had none left by not so friendly staff. When this happened on consecutive visits I started to get annoyed as it left me with the limited choice of a baked potato which is often hard in the middle. I won't be rushing back.
