I did not visit l’Ecrivain for very long time, likely since two years and I was very excited to go back to a place I used to love when I was living in Ballsbridge. They have made some changes, the new bar and atmospheres are very pleasant. The Prosseco was fabulous. But, we should stop at this stage. First, let me tell you something about the service. When you go in a place like l’Ecrivain in Dublin, you expect not to wait one minute, not to get your plate cold and someone with a wine culture. Well, do not expect that anymore. You will get the service you would get in a normal restaurant. Likely in a good restaurant, you will not be charged €62 for that. The scallops served as a starter were not fresh, likely frozen. The Goat cheese salad was dreadful. It was likely a Tesco Cheese, an insult to Cheese. The beef was cold and not the best quality. The only light of this diner was the desert, a beautiful chocolate fondant. The wine list was very disappointing too. Except if you want to drink a Haut Brion 1989 (exceptional year) at €750 or another pearl, the accessible wines are quite poor. At €60, I ordered a Burgundy 2009. Putting a 2009 Burgundy in the wine list of such restaurant is already a mistake. The man in charge of the wine was unable to give me any information about this wine, so I decided to taste it. As I thought, it was too young and a bit bitter. I decided then to try a Nuit Saint Georges 2007. Usually, you cannot make a mistake when you buy such a brand, particularly at €125. Well, it was not my night, I was again wrong. Likely a bad conservation altered the quality of the wine. Desperate, I decided to finish on something nice and ordered an Armagnac 1950. It was great and not highly priced at €45. Indeed, I realised after that I had half of a normal shot, so in reality very expensive. In a lovely hotel close to l’Ecrivain, you will get the same Armagnac at €60 but properly served. So, if you want to be seen, you can still go to l’Ecrivain. As usual, fantastic food, good wine and lovey atmosphere. I know the place since the start, I did not go back for long time due to some time abroad but at least few things do not change in Dublin. Highly recommanded!!!!

Nothing bad or nothing good to say about this place which is very average at all levels. If you are looking for quantity in your plate, it is the good address, they are not mean. Now, if you dream about a fantastic thai, well forget it.

First time in the place, very good welcome and services. Pick up the red baujolais, good wine and good value. But forget the food, which is poor, very poor quality. Indeed, you need turnover to have fresh product and as a lot of restaurants in Dublin, the place is not working well. Only four tables between 6:00 and 9:00 pm.

Lovely place with atmospher of a old French bistrot. However, food is really average and wines are good but not cheap. Since my last visit, they lost the service quality.If you like good French food is not the place to be. Forgotten the platters wich are on offense to the French cuisine. The creme brule is not bad and the French cheese quite good.

Chandni come back to its best. I know this restaurant for long time. At the start, the food was fantastic, one of best Indian in Europe for me. But, at the top of the bubble, quality was down as prices were up. Today, may be because the recession, quality is back and prices are down. So, the mixed grill or the chicken bariani are strongly recommended. Add a Valpolicella and it will be perfect.

I did not to go to the French paradox since two years. The service was very nice as the place. The food is simple and quite average but for a good value. At the opposite, the wine was superb, I recommend the Burbangy white: Macon.

Food is just ok, no bad for the amator of Indian food, really average. It is pity because the place is very nice and the athmosphere really good. Prices are very competitive particularly for the early birds.
