Wrights Anglers RestPosted on 18 November 2008
A large group of us ate here on Saturday at lunchtime. With the restaurant quite empty we would have expected decent service. The service however was terrible. Having been seated in a part of the restaurant away from the main dining area (God knows why?) we found that we were totally forgotten about and one of us had to go to the main restaurant area and request a member of staff to come and take our order, also to let us know the specials and to request the bill. The only time we saw any staff members who came over to us without being asked was when our food came out. The food was OK, had we not requested to see the specials board we would have been quite limited in our choice of seafood which is strange for a seafood restaurant. Perhaps it was teething problems considering the pleace has just reopened but I won't be returning until I hear some better reports!

Dunne And Crescenzi (South Frederick Street)Posted on 29 September 2008
I've always liked to pop into this restaurant for a quick bite to eat as it's reasonably priced and the food is always simple but tasty. The service, however, is beyond bad. The staff are inattentive and slow and make you feel like a real moan if you ask where your food is, considering your friend got theirs twenty minutes previously! Going to steer clear of this place for a while.

l'Ecrivain RestaurantPosted on 29 September 2008
I have to disagree with the previous reviewer about the service here. Perhaps we were just lucky or the previous reviewer unlucky but the service we received here on Saturday night was excellent. Food was delicious as ever, the amuse bouche which was a shot of red pepper and sweet potato soup was to die for. My friend was a little disapointed with her suckling pig but that was the only complaint of the night. Can't wait to return!

BenitosPosted on 30 August 2008
I was here a few weeks ago with a group on a sat night. What can i say, GREAT NIGHT. Their staff were so attentive, one girl in particular who was looking after our table really made our night. Our table got so much attention and regular trips to make sure everything was ok. All of our food arrived on time, which was great as it was a large group. Great selection of pizzas. The atmosphere was fun and we were left to enjoys our drinks, as opposed to been rushed out. I will be returning for a second visit soon.

ShimlaPosted on 23 July 2008
Fantastic food and really good value. Go for the all you can eat buffet on a Sunday. I was surprised when I went last Sunday for the first time to find that there were no trays of food left out to choose from. We were handed menus and could order anything we liked from the menu, made to order, and all for 10€! The decor may be a little dated but the food is some of the best Indian food in Dublin.

Ivans Oyster Bar & GrillPosted on 22 July 2008
When I called this restaurant on Sunday to make a reservation for five people, I was informed that reservations could only be made for parties of six or more. Although slightly deterred, the five of us made our way to the restaurant expecting it to be full, only to find that there was only one other table seated. My oysters to start were delicious (native, as there were no rock available). My halibut special was a little dry although the caper and lemon sauce that came with it was beautiful. My friends had fish pie and lobster and there were no real complaints. Very little choice for those who don't eat fish, but then again if you don't eat fish don't go to a fish restaurant. Overall, not dreadful, not great either.

Gotham CafePosted on 28 January 2008
Oily, stodgy pizzas. I cannot fathom why this place is famous for them! I went all out and had a chinatown pizza, I now understand why an aromatic duck topped pizza, hoi sin and all, is not seen gracing the menu in more pizzerias. In fairness though, I really should have known better in the first place! My friends prawn salad was quite the opposite, it being beautiflly fresh and equally tasty. Service was good, I was there for lunch and we weren't kept waiting long for service at any stage. I won't be hurrying back here, but if I do find myself eating here again, it wont be a pizza.

Town Bar and GrillPosted on 09 November 2007
I couldn't believe how full this place was for a Tuesday lunchtime. Our reservation was for half two and there wasn't a spare table in the whole restaurant, it did make for a really nice atmosphere though. Six of us ate from the lunch menu and there wasn't one bad dish in the lot. The skate main course, which was on special, was especially simple and delicious. Everybody at the table had dessert, we drank a few bottles of a very good and yet reasonably priced barbera d'alba and the bill was still under 50€ a head including service charge. For the quality of both the food and the service provided I think this was very reasonable and I will be returning in the very near future.

Chameleon RestaurantPosted on 05 November 2007
I had heard a lot about this restaurant and have wanted to go for quite some time now. I was nothing but disappointed with my experience. A group of eight of us ate here on Saturday night. We sat at the raised platorm with the low table mentioned by one of the previous reviewers, which we all found very uncomfortable and unsociable as everybody seems very far away from each other. Our waitress was not in the slightest bit friendly and brought us a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon when I had requested Sauvignon Blanc. The food, although it was tasty and good quality, was certaintly not enough to feed eight people. I believe we only got three or four portions of rice between all eight of us. At 68 euro a head I won't be heading back here anytime soon.

Ard Bia - ClosedPosted on 03 October 2007
Had dinner here with a large group of friends over the weekend. Considering the portion size of the starters, they were a little overpriced. The venison was delicious, as was the brill which my friend ordered. The oyster festival was on in Galway the weekend we ate here and the waiter went around with platters of free fresh oysters for everyone to try which I thought was a nice touch.

The Lord EdwardPosted on 13 September 2007
For fish lovers, this restaurant is paradise. I ate dinner here yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. As a previous reviewer mentioned, this is not in any way a trendy or hip restaurant. Nor, in my opinion should it ever try to be. It is, after all, one of the oldest fish restaurants in the city. I had the ray which was beautifuly moist and a welcome treat as it is increasingly hard to find on a menu anywhere. My friend had a steak which was disapointing, but if you ask me thats what you get when you order meat in a renowned fish restaurant!

TrocaderoPosted on 29 August 2007
This is certainly one of the best dining rooms in Dublin. The atmosphere is fantastic, even on a Tuesday night when I was there last. The staff were friendly and prompt, but not overbearing. The food, for the most part was top class. Both my risotto starter and my filet steak were cooked to perfection and the peppercorn sauce was the best I've had. I had chips with my steak which were very obviously from frozen and quite soggy which was a disappointment and the chocolate tart for dessert was a little dry and uninspired. I will be back to eat here again, but please do something about the chips in the meantime!

OdessaPosted on 27 August 2007
I've eaten here a few times now. There's usually a really nice atmosphere because the restaurant always seems to be full. I find downstairs more comfortable, with more space between the tables. The food on my last visit was a bit of a let down, the salmon I had for main course was so salty it was almost inedible. Other than that the food was acceptable but certainly not exciting. There are definitely better restaurants in Dublin which are in the same price range.

SevenPosted on 01 August 2007
I eat here every so often when I can’t be bothered cooking for myself as it’s on my route home from work. The prices are more than reasonable for the quality of the food served, its consistently very good. The staff are friendly but as I'm usually there at about six thirty I always feel as if I'm being rushed out of the place for the late sitting. When booking, you'll be told on the phone that the table will be needed back by eight. When you arrive you'll be reminded that the table is needed back by eight. One minute after you get your menu you'll be asked for your order, your plate will be taken while your still chewing the last mouthful of your starter. . etc.. I do understand that it's a small restaurant and it's important to turn tables around so I will eat here again, I just don't need as much reminding!

The Twelfth LockPosted on 01 August 2007
The setting here is beautiful, especially if it's a sunny day and you manage to get a seat outside. The menu has recently been updated which was maybe a tad overdue, but welcome nonetheless. The service has also improved, but only from appalling to less than adequate!

The Tea Room RestaurantPosted on 31 May 2007
Dinner here last night was great. Having read previous reviewers comments beforehand I was surprised to find the restaurant almost full, especially as it was a Wednesday night. The atmosphere was good; the staff were friendly and attentive, perhaps a little too fussy. I would recommend the oysters with apple jelly, they were delicious and my sole main course was the best I've ever had. One complaint I have is not so much to do with the restaurant but the octagon bar which is part of the hotel. Twice now I have gone to the bar for a pre dinner drink only to me met by an awful smell of vomit! Sorry, I know that’s not the most attractive thing to imagine but it's also not good for the appetite so perhaps have your cocktails somewhere else!

SabaPosted on 22 May 2007
I came here for the first time last week and, overall, was disappointed. Two of us shared the Saba Plate to start, which arrived from the kitchen within three minutes of ordering, but everything on it was tasty, the tempura was especially good. My friend had a nice chicken dish for her main course. I, however, had the beef boom, which was really awful. It was blow your head off spicy which didn't bother me too much as I do like my food hot, but apart from the heat the dish had no flavour at all and the few vegetables that were in it were cremated. Price was reasonable, 84€ for the shared started plate, two mains, one forgettable dessert and a nice bottle of wine which was 32€. Also the tables in here are far too close together.
