l'Ecrivain RestaurantPosted on 01 August 2012
We were there on a Wednesday night with a menupages voucher and, I have to say that it has been a great experince. The welcome was warm and friendly. They took our jackets and gave us the option to go to the bar for a drink or straight to the table. This was a good touch, as other restaurants of the same calibre, would not give you the option and would make you seat at the bar for ages incentivating to have a drink before dinner. The place was packed and there was a great atmosphere. I had quail while my girlfriend had the pork terrine. both brillint but the bust had yet to come. We both went for fillet steak as a main and it was simply amazing. The best main I had in a long time. I would rarely order a steak when I go out but this was something else. The desserts weren't the best, I had some apricot and yogurt stuff which was ok. Don't remember what my girlfriend had but remember it was ok too. Altogether it was a great experience and, since then, we manage to get another voucher but, this time, it is gonna be tasting menu with matching wines. Can't wait

La Sirena Mexican RestaurantPosted on 01 August 2012
we went there with a menu pages voucher for lunch and it was fine for what we paid.the restaurant was empty and the waiter was nice and friendly.the wine we were given (included in the deal) was nice, and we went for more, we then ordered our starters which were nice enough, we then had a fajita each which was tasty. I was only slightly disappointed of the fact that I asked if I could get the special of the day (surf and turf fajita-same price of the one on the menu) and, after I was told by the waiter that he would have asked if it was possible, I received the standard fajita instead. It is fair enough. However, I do believe that it would have cost them nothing to get a customer happy by making a small "exception" and serve something that, at the end of the day, would have cost them nothing more than what already included in the deal. Altogether, the restaurant was nice and food tasty. I wouldn't rush back though

Taste of EmiliaPosted on 19 May 2012
I have been in taste of Emilia several times. Mostly to drink wine and, occasionally, went for a bite too. I have to say that, unfortunately, it is no longer the place that used to be. The lack of quality of wine and the extremely high prices they charge for it, is a put off. I am afraid that they are already starting to live on their reputation, especially among the Italian community in Dublin and, I think it is a mistake. I really hope they will realise that they should put the same effort they used to put in choosing the wine as they did at the beginning, which wasn’t too long ago.

The Mint CottagePosted on 19 May 2012
We were there last night and we had a brilliant experience at the mint cottage. We went with one of the menu pages deals and it was money well spent. We had a booking for 8.00 but, when arrived, we were told that we would have to wait which was not a problem and the waiter was very apologetic about not having our table ready. We sat in the little reception room at the entrance and ordered a bottle of wine while waiting. About 10 minutes later the table was ready and the waiter kept apologising about the delay. Once seated, we were ready to order. I had the prawns as starter while my girlfriend went for the cod. The prawns, unfortunately, were a bit burnt while the cod was fantastic. As mains I had the began aloo gosh while my girlfriend had the bhuna gosh, along with rice and naan to share. We were left waiting a bit for our mains but, once arrived, we couldn’t be happier as they were fantastic and, on top of that, the cook thrown in an extra main of chicken to apologise for the delay. Which we thought it was very nice. The dessert was a bit plain and a bit small but, it didn’t matter as we were well stuffed and very happy with everything else. On top of that, after paying the bill, we were offered a drink on the house to apologise about the delay with our table. This is what I call service. Something that some establishments should learn to provide. Anyway, we will be very happy to go back soon and to pick up some take away from them as the food is great and their take away prices are very competitive.

Dobbins RestaurantPosted on 15 May 2012
I was there on a Tuesday for an early bird with my girlfriend and her parents and it was excellent.
The first and only time I was in Dobbins was about year ago and I had had such a great night that I couldn’t wait to go back.
We got there a bit too early so we went for a glass of wine at the bar while waiting for the rest of the party to arrive. Once we were sited on a very comfortable couch, we started looking at the menu which we found amazing as the choice for an early bird was absolutely great.
I had the goat cheese and red onion as a starter, the roasted duck (it is in fact half a duck) as main and the sticky toffee pudding as dessert and I couldn’t be happier.
Strangely enough, none of us ordered the same dish on the night, a part from sharing the starter with my girlfriend’s mother but, we all were very impressed with the food and the service.
The wine as well, it is very good value for money as they have a very good selection.
We will definitely go back soon.

Roly's BistroPosted on 15 May 2012
I and my girlfriend got one of the menu pages voucer for Roly’s as we thought it was a good offer for such a well-known restaurant.
We booked for a Sunday night and we had the staff mixing-up our booking a couple of times before we eventually manage to be there.
When we arrived the place was fairly busy when we arrived but the atmosphere was not really there. The menu was a bit disappointing as we both found it a bit boring. The only “exciting” dish on the menu was the duck breast and it required a supplement of 5 euro.
We started by ordering a bottle of wine and we were surprised to find out that, in a restaurant of that calibre, for 27 quid, you get a wine that would be sold in all the major supermarket for about 10 euro.
For the starter, my girlfriend went for the prawn bisque while I went for the wantons of chicken. Both nice dishes but nothing special.
For mains we went for duck and salmon. The duck was very nice even though it was a bit on the well done side more than the pink I asked for and the salmon had exactly the same problem. Overcooked and a bit dry.
The desserts were ok but, one again, nothing memorable.
The scary thing is that the same menu would usually cost 35 euro which, we think is way too dear for what they offer. The 20 euro we paid with the offer would be fairer for that menu.
Altogether, I do not think we will rush back

Pearl BrasseriePosted on 22 April 2012
I took my girlfriend to Pearl Basserie for her birthday and we were both very much looking forward to dinner there but we ended up very disappointed. Our table was in a small space between two private rooms and with the sideboard were all the menus are kept right behind me and staff kept passing by and felt very uncomfortable. We ordered tempura tiger prawns (€15) and the pig's head (€12) as starters and pigeon (€30) and suckling pig (€28) as mains and a bottle of Syrah (35).
Well, the wine was rather bland, it may have not been the most expensive bottle on the wine list but it was still not that cheap, my girlfriend received 3 tiny prawns as a starter which we found very miserable considering, as well, that 6 oyster’s would have cost only 12 quid. My pig's head was ok but nothing special and very small too. The main were a bit more generous but the pig's chop (part of the suckling pig dish) was pink and not very nice while the pigeon was very nice. Over all we thought it was very poor value and we found the food rather heavy. I wouldn't recommend to go to Pear Brasserie and we definitely wouldn't go back any time soon.
