This is a cafe style restaurant with upmarket restaurant prices. Food was just ok, service a bit slow, by quite expensive. Wouldent rush back.

This is a Avoca run restaurant but nothing like the Avoca restaurants food, food good, restaurant lacks atmosphere, service slow we had to call the waitress over to take our order after been seated for 8 minutes. Price a little on the expensive side.

One of the best Chinese restaurants in Wicklow and south Dublin that I have been to. We go several times in the year. Great food, excellent friendly service. Price wise it's quite expensive as Chinese restaurants go. Disappointed they don't have an early bird!

This was our second visit to Bates, our first was in June. The menu had changed but both times the food was excellent, there's more fish on the summer menu but still 3 choices of fish in the winter menu, we go there for the seafood, but there's also a good meat choice. The service was very good, the breads were excellent. The atmosphere is very good but the lighting is very bright for a restaurant, especially with white walls. We will be back.

We went with the kids on the bank holiday Monday for evening meal. The food was excellent all round, the kids' meals were very good, the chips were home made and not bought in frozen. I had the best seafood chowder I have ever had in a restaurant. The service was great and the waitress was very friendly. The only minus was the walls could do with a good painting, their is paint flaking off.

It's a very busy restaurant, very noisy, service is very slow. The food was excellent especially the seafood risotto. Great place to go with a party but not a couples place for a candle light dinner. Overall the slow service was our main concern.

When we were seated at this restaurant and given menus, it took the waiter 30 minutes before he took our order and we had to call him over. This wasn't a good start but from there on the service was good. The food was very good all round. Didn't like the cream tiled floor; it gave a cold atmosphere. The restaurant is very open and could do with been divided up for better atmosphere. A great restaurant to go to with a group but not the atmosphere for us as a couple going out for dinner. All in all we would go back again from a food point of view.

I would never go to this pub again for food. The service was terrible, after been seated it was 15 minutes before we got a menu, and I had to ask for it.The table was dirty and we had to ask for it to be cleaned and the floor of the section we were in was manky with bits of food and dirt.
The food was awful, the chips were soggy and under cooked, the meat was over done, the veg was dry and over cooked. The meal had a re-heated taste. Years ago this pub had great food but I won't return again, I wouldn't give it a second chance.
