The Dining RoomPosted on 20 August 2011
Myself and my boyfriend have been enormous fans of Balzac restaurant so we excited and almost apprehensive on our first visit to 'the dining room'. I am a firm believer in if its not broken don't fix it- and I really don't understand the change in the decor but I'm very willing to write that off as someone wanting to put their stamp on the place..however reducing the lighting level to a point where you can't see the difference between a gin and tonic and a gin and lemon is a bit extreme. So aesthetic grips aside and onto the issues with food and service; Service was slow and they no longer have the 3 courses of €25 offer- which is a pity. But the food was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and the others at our table, who had never been to Balzac, didn't seem to be finding fault as easily as I was or at all. So all in all I would say that it didn't fill the enormous shoes of its predecessor but that it is still a good dining experience in Dublin City centre!

FagansPosted on 18 September 2008
The last time I went here was a bit disappointing but I' ve been plenty other times and been quite happy hence the 4 stars. I would recommend the fillet or sirloin steak..they are always cooked to perfection and the quality is quite good for what you pay and their side orders compliment it all very well. Their service although usually bubbly and prompt was very sloppy and although I point blank nearly refuse not to leave a tip I was swayed this time by my boyfriend after he discovered he had been short changed by our waitress (only by 3.20) but it was part of a litany of other mishaps by the same waitress. Perhaps they need to retrain this one. But I usually really like Fagans..so I will return.

Boiled Onion CLOSEDPosted on 17 September 2008
I went here for dinner with my best friend and our mothers. We entered from the street and walked up the somewhat dingey carpeted stairway to the actual restaurant door. Appearances can be deceptive and literally once we stepped into the restaurant the whole experience was extremely pleasant and one of the most enjoyable dining experiences I've ever had. I had the beef medallions and shared a chocolate cake for dessert. I left slightly too full but this was probably only because I was too greedy and the food was too nice. Great place and value..will be back.

The Forge Gallery RestaurantPosted on 17 September 2008
The food in this place is simply too good. Everything is tasty tasty tasty. You finish everything as the portions are just the right size and you are still left with room for dessert and you really need to try dessert here. Bread and butter puddings or creme Brulees, chocolate roulade or even the home made ice creams are all to die for. Don't come in here with anything else planned for the night..this is your plan. The prices are quite high but this place is for special occasions..will definitely be back.

The Real Gourmet Burger - Dun LaoghairePosted on 17 September 2008
I am never disappointed coming out of gourmet burger. This place offers what feels like a healthier alternative when you really just want a burger and chips for lunch. The service is good and friendly and the burgers are always super tasty. Their chips and tomato sauce always stand out for me as just when you think the best bit is over the burger is gone you get to enjoy these chunky chips with rosemary salt.

I have gone here for lunch many times. It offers a pretty decent selection for carvery and the portions are very generous. I nearly always enjoy what I get although sometimes a there is overcooked chips or lumpy mashed potatoes. But for the portion size, speed of service and price you cant go far wrong!

The Bay Restaurant @ WaltersPosted on 17 September 2008
I went here in the summer for drinks after work and then I had a bite to eat. I opted for the bangers and mash. Just a perfect amount of food and everything was really yummy and I had to fight off my co-workers from trying to taste. This is a lovely place for lunch, dinner and drinks after work.great service and pints aswell.

Mao Restaurant (Dun Laoghaire)Posted on 16 September 2008
I ate here for lunch recently. The food had been recommended by a work friend and I certainly was not disappointed by that at. The salad was fresh and crunchy and just tasty enough without being overpowering and my yellow veg curry was really delicious. Served with probably too much rice but its hardly a complaint. The service on the other hand was a bit hit and miss. Our waiter was quite attentive but when we went to get the bill we were greeted by an ignorant man on the desk who sighed and pursed his lips when we asked to pay separately.(the place wasn't at all busy). When we were there he was also approached by an american tourist asking about the world cultures festival and he couldn't have been ruder to her if he tried. He would definitely put me off going again!

Poppies (Dun Laoghaire)Posted on 16 September 2008
I was here for lunch recently with work friends and we all opted for the paninis of the day. The service was quick and friendly. But nothing really stood out about the whole experience. The cakes looked very nice especially the crumbles/pies but I wasn't drawn into staying for one as I didn't see any table service to speak of. Alright but forgettable..

Toscana City CentrePosted on 30 May 2008
I went here 2 months ago for my birthday along with 4 others. We were seated upon arrival and the staff were exceptionally friendly and thorough. The menu had a good selection and I opted for the Soup and then lemon chicken, both of which were really tasty in a nicely presently and sized portion. The real treat of the night however was all the waiters hovering around my table to sing happy birthday after a tip off from my sister.. be warned they take birthdays seriously here:) No complaints from anyone, smiley bellies all round.
