this place is lovely without being stuffy. we went at lunch time (bit cheaper than evening). i had sea bass and it was melt in your mouth. my other half had the steak and guinness pie, it was so nice he ate the lot and left little room for his nice chips which i used to dip into the gorgeous gravy of his pie, highly recommend this place, service with a smile, yummy food, no wonder they have won lots of awards

went here 3 weeks ago with my other half, we ordered turkey and ham for himself...just ok and scampi and saute potatoes for me. saute potatoes were nice but the scampi was the worst i had ever tasted. the menu did state that you could have them battered or breaded...i forgot to state which i wanted and i wasnt asked by the waiter...i got battered..they were so small, some of the little lumps appeared to be just batter, no scampi, very disappointing, i dont know if the food would be better at the weekend, it was a monday night and initially we were the only people in the hotel but then a family of 4 arrived, based on the scampi i definitely wouldnt go again, not worth the cost

went here for the special lunch menu which includes a glass of wine, i was on my own but felt completely comfortable, this place has a good atmosphere and was packed with people, i had the mixed olives to start and the cannelloni, i love olives anyway and the cannelloni was lovely too, the free wine was quite palatable too. i felt so comfy there on my own that i had a second glass of wine, i would recommend this place and will be back again with my other half sometime, great value, great food, great atmosphere

went here for lunch, the menu was a bit limited so we both chose soup for starters, my minestrone was lovely, my other half had leek and potato but it wasnt very warm, he refused to complain. for mains i had the penne al salmone which was nice and himself had the fish and chips, the fish was fresh and nice, the chips were ok, this place has a nice enough atmosphere but you very much get what you're paying for, i wouldnt rush back but i wouldnt rule it out again either

we've been here a few times, both lunch and dinner, the food is fabulous, the chowder for lunch is excellent, in the evening we had the lamb and the fish and chips, both scrummy. nice atmosphere in this place but they were very busy one lunch time so we had to sit in the bar end, wasnt that nice, if there were no seats again i wouldnt sit in the bar again

went here for the early bird meal, not a lot of choice on the menu so we both ordered steak...it was the fattiest steak i had ever tasted. i complained to the waitress but she didnt seem interested, i complained again when i was paying the bill but the manageress just told me that it was because it was sirloin and not fillet that it was so fatty, i'm not joking, 75% of it was fat, she suggested i only buy fillet any more (which i usually do anyway) because its less fatty and she said i should have complained when i was eating my dinner, i said i did but to no avail and she apologised. none of the rest of the food was amazing either, i definitely wont go back. there wasnt much atmosphere either, not recommended.

six of us went here to celebrate my graduation, the food wasnt amazing, there was no atmosphere really, the tables are so squashed together you have no privacy, its like they try to cram as many people in as possible, myself and husband went one night but they were insisting on putting us at a table in front of the counter which didnt suit us at all so we left, this time the university had booked it for my doctorate graduation so i had no say in the booking but i definitely wouldnt go here again, the staff are unfriendly and the food isnt worth it

we love this place both downstairs in the cellar or the ground floor for a quick bite. if its a quick bite we usually go for the thai curry or hungarian goulash, its quick, cheap, tasty and busy. when we want to chill we go downstairs, usually its wine and olives and cheese/meat plate or smoked duck salad or fish stew, both these latter are scrummy, the atmosphere is good but would be enhanced by a bit of jazz or sumat, the wine is about €7.50 upwards by the glass, we've tried other wine bars in dublin but we find this to be the cosiest, service is always with a smile

popped in here for snacks and a bottle of wine valentines evening. staff were very friendly and welcoming. we ordered the mixed cheese and meat plate, cheese was a bit limited, i wanted olives to munch but they didnt have any which i thought was a bit strange, i think the meat/cheese plate was a bit overpriced for what we got, it was €14.50 and the bread consisted of a few slices of wheaten but then 2 small soup rolls...which i dont really class as bread, i've experienced more appealing atmosphere in other french restaurants, a bit of jazz music would have been nice, dont think i'd go here again

went here for lunch valentines day, service was a bit slow but the food was lovely, i had the (€6.50) seafood chowder, it was yum, lots of seafood, good flavour, without the pile of potatoes that other people put in. my other half had the (€8.95) beef and cheddar pie, it had lots of flavour, if you're starving i recommend ordering something with the pie like baby potatoes, even though there are some potatoes in the pie. my other half only had the pie and he said it was enough for him. they were very sweet, gave me a rose on leaving, will go back here again and recommend it

this is not cheap but it is such a special night out, we went for our christmas dinner and it was quite a reasonable price compared to going at other times. we even got a free little entree which was lovely. the place itself is divided into different rooms and the log fires make it all very cosy, i had the rabbit main course despite my pet rabbit being killed the week before...the rabbit was lovely, its the perfect place for that special evening out but i couldnt afford to go every week

this is such a cosy little restaurant, can be quite romantic, we always go for the early bird which is great value but unfortunately the food never changes on it, its always the same offerings on the early bird menu. the service is excellent and the staff are quite discreet, always there if you need them but never hover over the table, the food is excellent, i love the lamb tagine and the tuna fishballs are really scrummy if you like fish, go here at least once to try it, you wont be disappointed
