Lemon Jelly Cafe

Lemon Jelly Cafe

I went to this place for a brunch with my boyfriend. I really liked it! I especially like the brightness of this place (with window walls), the location (close to the river) and overall the easy modern style, reinforcing the trendy atmosphere of the Millenium walk. The food was tasty - we both had crepes from a daily selection. No problems with the staff.

Similarly to the Paulie's closeby, this is a cozy and decent little restaurant. The food is really good quality (and quantity as well!) and especially meat is very well prepared. Since the restaurant is smallish, you might end up seated in a gazebo in the front, as we did. Fortunately, it's still quite well heated, and even there the atmosphere remains pretty elegant. However, the prices are a bit higher even though the location is not very central, so it mostly just makes sense to come here if you live around.

Junior's - Paulie's Pizza

Junior's - Paulie's Pizza

We have this restaurant just round the corner, and as it's supposed to be one of the best Dublin's pizzerias, it's usually a place that comes in mind when we have visitors. However, you need to book in advance, as it gets really full. What's comfy is that you can be seated outside - warmed by a snuggle and a blanket. I always like sitting outside, and there is nothing spectacular around, but that's what actually makes it feel special. You would probably not come to this part of town just to eat out, but if you live or work in the vicinity, it makes you feel good that there is such good and homey place to eat. The prices unfortunately reflect the pizzeria's fame. They're generally speaking good prices for dinner, but quite high ones for pizza.

I had Valentine's dinner in this restaurant, and for a romantic date, I can absolutely recommend it! What I loved the most was the atmosphere - the dim lights and the classical jazz music. The waiters were polite and mindful of the special occasion. I like Asian fusion and the food was just what I wanted, so tasty.

ely bar & brasserie

I tend to go to Ely's for special occasions. I like the fact that they have a good selection of various styles of meals from Irish and international cuisines - so it's a good compromise when you're with a crowd with different preferences. The restaurant Ely's at Chq is set in a cellar, providing old-style but stylish atmosphere. Unfortunately though, it does get pretty noisy there. The staff is nice and professional.

Havana Tapas Bar

Havana Tapas Bar

Havana is a good alternative place for drinks, if you're not decided either for beer or for wine. We got the classic - mojito in a big jug. As the name suggests, you can have simple dinner here as well (which will fill you), at a good price. I liked the fact that even though we were about 10 people, we found a ling table where we could sit close enough to hear each other. The staff was friendly, young and probably from Spanish-speaking countries (nice accent!).

Il Fornaio

Il Fornaio

I often get take-away pizza from Il Fornaio, as it is considered one of the best Dublin pizzas in Dublin among my Italian friends. However, I have good experience with eating in as well. The last time, I visited Il Fornaio with a friend for lunch on a Saturday. They had a good-value menu of bruschetta and really tasty and creamy risotto. The service was very friendly and fast, and was not offended or surprised by my request to get a doggie bag at the end.

If you're looking for Mexican food in Dublin, then this is a really good choice. The food is pretty high-quality, and the selection is much broader than at a typical Mexican place. The margarita I had was really tasty. The cocktails seem to me a bit more on the expensive side, but on the other hand I believe they're prepared pretty well. To eat, we had a few starters which seemed quite original to me (e.g. a special raw tuna broth). They say about 3 starters would make up a full meal, but even 2 may make you quite full! When you add all the starters and cocktails together, the meal is not going to be very cheap - but as I'm saying, if you're into Mexican, this might be worth it for you. The staff was quite friendly, no issues there. I liked the music they were playing - it created a bit of a club atmosphere. But it wasn't latin music in our case, just some modern selection.

Foam Cafe

I think this place is great for a brunch or lazy afternoon coffee break - everything seems so relaxed in there, you feel like at your aunt's living room. On the first floor, you can just sink into one of the coaches and list through their art and travel books. What really stands out about the place is its alternative (a bit tea-room like) atmosphere - it's full of colourful and crazy decorations. It is a bit on the kitchy side, but if you're not very conservative, you might enjoy it. The cafe has a selection of smaller meals and salads (we got omelettes and they were fine). The prices are really friendly, too. The waiters were very pleasant and smiley, not minding the fact that we were using a groupon voucher for the visit.

Lamb Cutlets with Garlic, Lemon and Paprika

Why not make up a large quantity of this marinade in advance – it is wonderful with cutlets and would also work well with leg steaks or loin chops. The longer you marinate the meat for, the better the flavour!
